‘California’ Congressman Adam Schiff Has Full-Time Home In Maryland

The last time we checked on California’s smarmiest Congressman, Democrat Adam Schiff, we was just censured by the House of Representatives for his lies about the Trump-Russia collusion.

Schiff is hoping to take his brand of hyperbole and histrionics to the US Senate, as he is running to fill the seat once held by the late Dianne Feinstein. Legal Insurrection readers may recall that seat was filled by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who put into place EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler.

Butler’s appointment raised some eyebrows, as it appears that she listed her state of residence as being Maryland.

It appears Schiff may have that in common with Butler, then.

U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Adam Schiff on Monday maintained California remains his primary residence despite reports indicating his full-time home is in Maryland.”I think just about every member of Congress has a residence in their state and a residence back in D.C. since we’re in session much of the week,” Schiff told KCRA 3. “People make a family decision where they’re going to have their kids, but our principal residence — our primary residence — is in California. Always has been and always will be.”Schiff made the comments in Salinas after his first public appearance and fundraiser since the reports surfaced last week. CNN reported mortgage records show Schiff owns a 650-square-foot condo in Burbank and a 3,420-square-foot home in Maryland, where he raises his children. When KCRA 3 asked how he’ll respond to those who question if he understands the California experience while he raises his children and owns a significantly larger home in Maryland, Schiff replied, “I think honestly it’s a non-issue.”

What Schiff asserts and what the reality is, however, may be two entirely different things. The New York Post delved into this issue, finding that the congressman was rarely in California.

One insider told The Post the congressman is “rarely at his California apartment,” which is a modest one-bedroom, one-bathroom residence. The revelation comes as Schiff faces stiff competition in the California Senate primary against fellow Democratic Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee.Deed records reveal that Schiff designated his Maryland property as his primary residence in 2003 when he purchased it for $870,000.In 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Schiff refinanced his mortgage and consistently indicated the Maryland property as his primary residence.Los Angeles County deed records for Schiff’s Burbank condo, purchased in 2009 for $298,000, raise eyebrows as they were notarized in Maryland. The records feature alterations that replaced “California” and “Los Angeles” with “Maryland” and “Montgomery County,” listing Schiff’s Maryland address as the return address. This inconsistency further fuels doubts about his true primary residence.

It appears Schiff did some documentation manipulation…to save money on the taxes he wants the rest of us to pay.

Schiff has for years taken a homeowner’s tax exemption on a much smaller 650 square foot condo he owns in Burbank, California, also claiming that home as his primary residence for a $7,000 reduction off the 1% property tax, amounting to a roughly $70 in annual savings. He did not take an exemption on his home in Maryland. While Schiff has signed documents asserting both the Maryland property and the significantly smaller Burbank condo as his primary residences, tax records indicate that he paid his California property taxes in 2017 with a check featuring his Maryland address – the only year he paid with a personal check. And a review of past comments, pictures shared on his public social media, and records indicate Schiff makes his full-time home in Maryland.

Of course, by living in Maryland, Schiff will be more readily at the beck-and-call of those entities who rely on Big Government largess….so there is that.
