It’s amazing how much attention the hactivist media is paying to the border crisis now that it’s actually affecting their puppet masters’ cities. Republican states have struggled with this issue for decades, but when a teensy tiny portion of these border crossers show up in blue cities, they all get the vapors.
The recent freak out is over winter approaching. They’re declaring winter a “nightmare.” Like they just thought about it. Because they probably just did. And of course, they want all taxpayers to foot the bill for their sanctuary cities and poor planning.
Democrat-controlled cities across the U.S. are facing housing shortages and a “nightmare winter” as migrants continue to arrive in major cities, according to a media report on Friday. The Politico article, headlined “Democratic cities brace for a nightmare winter housing migrants,” detailed the effects of the migrant crisis on New York City and Chicago. Some cities are facing a worse crisis than others. In “New York, where shelters are also full, the city has taken the extraordinary steps of providing migrants one-way plane tickets to as far away as Morocco and have contemplated handing out tents to newly-arriving migrants so they can sleep in parks,” per Politico’s report.
Ah, yes, because living in a tent in New York City or Chicago during the winter is a great idea. Maybe they imagine that global warming will keep the aliens alive. You know, with all the global boiling going on, they are probably going to be toasty warm. I almost feel sorry for them, but then, they were the ones who decided to flood into our country, so . . . only almost.
The Politico article cited above has more:
The dual crises of lowering temperatures and a lack of shelter space are forcing some jurisdictions to tighten long-standing policies that previously ensured people without homes would have a place to stay — and in some cases, confront simmering racial divides.Federal Homeland Security officials have held legal clinics in all three states [New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois] to help process thousands of migrants’ work permits more quickly. It’s a step local and state officials say is key to helping migrants provide for their families — and move out of the city and state-run shelters where they’ve been living in some cases for more than a year. The White House also included $1.4 billion for grants to local governments and nonprofits providing services for recently arrived migrants as part of a larger spending bill for Israel and Ukraine.A DHS official not authorized to speak publicly said about $800 million has been allocated for temporary shelter and other services through various emergency food and shelter programs.
NBC News breathlessly reports that Chicago is “scrambling” to house “migrants” as winter approaches (never mind actual American citizens who are homeless, they can fend for themselves).
As Chicago’s brutal winter looms, city and state officials are scrambling to find shelter for more than 2,000 migrants now living at airports, police stations and on the city’s streets, plus long-term housing for thousands more already crammed into overcrowded shelters. But advocates question whether newly announced measures from state and city officials intended to help migrants settle more quickly into the city will work as planned or contribute to the worsening of a humanitarian crisis spurred by the busing of thousands of people to the city from Texas.“So much is riding on Chicago winter, and we can’t afford for anyone in our beautiful state or city to freeze because we didn’t figure this out, to die because we didn’t figure this out,” said Karina Ayala-Bermejo, the CEO and president of the Instituto del Progreso Latino, which is involved in case management and other programs for migrants. As of Monday morning, there were 12,251 migrants living in 26 active city-run shelters, with another 2,175 waiting in O’Hare and Midway airports, as well as inside and outside of police stations, for placement, according to a city census of new arrivals. According to the city, more than 21,700 asylum-seekers and migrants have arrived since August 2022, when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s migrant busing program reached Chicago.
Notice that they know just whom to blame, and it’s not the sitting president who has presided over an ongoing border crisis of his own making due to his open border policies. Oh, no. It couldn’t be a Democrat’s fault that Chicago (a proud sanctuary city, of course) is seeing a tiny uptick, compared to what Texas and other border states have experienced as literally millions of aliens flow across our border practically unchecked. It’s all that nasty Texas governor Greg Abbott’s fault. Good grief. And this is NBC News. Blatantly partisan and blatantly dishonest.
Out in Colorado, they are also experiencing a serious crisis as Carbondale seeks to manage a startling ::: checks notes ::: 125 “migrants.”
The town of Carbondale’s Board of Trustees on Tuesday discussed goals and next steps for its effort to shelter a recent influx of Venezuelan migrants.During a work session, trustees agreed to meet some of the migrants’ humanitarian needs in a temporary response this winter, while seeking assistance from other regional governments where possible. The town has been working since early November to develop a response to the summer and fall arrival of an estimated 125 migrants, almost all of whom are from Venezuela.Local officials and nonprofit leaders have learned that arriving Venezuelan migrants first began sleeping under the Highway 133 bridge at the entrance to Carbondale in July, and that the Carbondale Police Department had interacted with a growing number of migrants in that location at least since October. Some trustees have said they only became aware of the situation as recently as this month. Most migrants say they arrived in Carbondale after traveling through Denver, which is currently struggling to shelter thousands of Venezuelans fleeing an economic and political crisis in their home country. Alex Sánchez, president and CEO of local advocacy group Voces Unidas de Las Montañas, said the migrants told him they came to Carbondale looking for work.
On the bright side, at least Democrats are finally getting a taste of what red cities and states have been dealing with for decades due to Democrats failed border and immigration policies. There’s even buzz that they may be on the verge of noticing that their own voters don’t like their policies. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on any actual policy changes that would address the root problem.
