U.K.: Parent Claims School Told Jewish Children to Hide Their Identities

U.K.: Parent Claims School Told Jewish Children to Hide Their Identities

“Her male classmates have been advised to cover their skullcaps with baseball caps.”

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling shared a disturbing letter to the editor in what looks like The London Times.

A mother told the publication that her daughter’s school advised Jewish children to hide their identities:

Sir, On advice from her school our teenage daughter has gone off without her blazer this morning. Her male classmates have been advised to cover their skullcaps with baseball caps. On her pre-school dawn run yesterday she ran past the broken glass of a kosher cafe’s windows and a fresh anti-Israel slogan painted on a bridge. All my grandparents were Holocaust survivors who foud safe haven, and built new lives, in the UK, so of course I am twitching with latent anxiety and the creeping dangers of the masses not speaking out against terrorism. I sincerely hope [Prime Minister] Rishi Sunak honours his pledge to stand with Israel and protect British Jews.

Return to the norm. Jew hatred is in. Tomorrow will be fun.

    Jew hatred never left.

Petrushka in reply to chrisboltssr. | October 12, 2023 at 3:03 pm

      It’s mostly left.

Milhouse in reply to chrisboltssr. | October 12, 2023 at 3:20 pm

For a while it fell out of fashion. Jew-haters had to pretend in public that they weren’t, lest they be thought of as primitive savages. In much of UK society that taboo is now gone.

Eric R. in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 3:47 pm

The one interesting twist is that Eastern and Western Europe have flipped as to which one is tolerant of Jews and which one is violent to them. As much as the Western left rails against Orban, you are safer as a Jew in Hungary than anywhere in Western Europe.

In a way, you can say they have “flipped back”. Jews ended up in Eastern Europe because so many fled persecution in Western Europe in the 1300s, and then it flipped about 300 years later with the Chmielnitski massacres.

It was less respectable for a short time, though, and the more overt forms went underground, or were banished to the fringes of society. Sadly, those days are gone.

Many of the replies to Ms. Rowling‘s tweet talk about how evil israel is. That somehow justifies terrorizing non-Israeli students in London for being Jewish?

Leftist Westerners: Protect yourself, Jew! Hide who you are and don’t protest crimes done against you!

Also Leftist Westerners: Happy Pride Month, everybody! Trans Lives Matter! Protect LGBT kids!!!

Our society is morally depraved.

henrybowman in reply to chrisboltssr. | October 12, 2023 at 2:53 pm

    Leftist Westerners?
On the contrary. +100 for the school. Telling the kids to go Gray Man AGAINST the leftists is wise and protective.
In blue cities, we teach our kids “don’t tell anybody our family owns guns.” No different here.

Milhouse in reply to henrybowman. | October 12, 2023 at 3:18 pm

This is not about the school. It’s about the general society that creates a situation where a Jewish school feels it has to give its students such advice. The letter writer is reporting how people in her community, including her children’s school administration, feel right now. JKR is appalled that anyone in the UK today has to feel that way.

Maybe I’m missing it, but I see no clue in this article that the school in question in a “Jewish school.” And they were the ones counseling the children to discretion, which I still submit is a good thing. As to the state of England in general, I lost all my expectations of them ever functioning as a free society decades ago.

OK, that’s some real inside baseball. Yarmulkes I know, blazers are new to me.

Henry, this is a reply to your post below (10:46 pm):
Anyone familiar Catholic/parochial schools (I’m from RI, when I grew up you couldn’t swing a dead cat and not hit a Catholic school) read that and immediately understood the drift.

Milhouse in reply to henrybowman. | October 12, 2023 at 11:21 pm

Henry, why would a non-Jewish school think its Jewish students might not be safe wearing their school blazers in public? What is it about a non-Jewish school’s blazer that would indicate the child wearing it is Jewish?

inspectorudy in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 11:25 pm

BS! If it were your child then you can be a protestor and make a public stand. But if like most parents, you want your kids to be safe above all else. Hiding one’s identity has been used throughout history as a defense against harm.

Milhouse in reply to inspectorudy. | October 13, 2023 at 3:00 am

Huh? What on earth are you talking about? Do you have any idea what you’re talking about, because you’re not making any sense. What exactly are you calling BS?

With the rise of Islam in the west, LGBT is not long for this world.

After 9/11, the Bush claimed Islam was a religion of peace.

Virtually all of the World’s leaders agreed with this statement.

Question: Is Islam a religion of peace?

Milhouse in reply to ParkRidgeIL. | October 12, 2023 at 3:14 pm

It can be. As practiced by 80% of Moslems (according to Daniel Pipes, who knows a thing or two on the subject) it is. Bush was telling those 80% that our war is not against you; our war is only against those Moslems, so don’t feel that you have to join them. Because we’ve got enough trouble with the 20%; the last thing we need is to increase our enemies’ forces fivefold by declaring war on all of them.

Eric R. in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 3:44 pm

20% of Muslims is 340 million people. That is more than 20x the world Jewish population. It doesn’t look good for us, frankly.

Milhouse in reply to Eric R.. | October 12, 2023 at 7:37 pm

Of course not. But fighting 340M people is better than fighting 1700M. When you launch a war you generally try to minimize the number of enemies you make.

geronl in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 4:37 pm

Those 80% are either tolerant or quietly supportive of the 20%

Milhouse in reply to geronl. | October 12, 2023 at 7:25 pm

So you want the 80% to fight against us instead of with us?! That’s the choice Bush was facing. Go to war against all of the world’s Moslems, or only against 20% of them, in alliance with a significant number of the other 80% and the quiet acquiescence of the rest. How would you choose?

gonzotx in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 5:16 pm

      Just stop with this nonsense

When Muslims around the world stand up for Jews and denounce the violence

      Maybe

But you never hear a chirp

ahad haamoratsim in reply to gonzotx. | October 16, 2023 at 8:05 am

You can see quite a few on Twitter including an Israeli Arab & a man who calls himself Imam of Peace.

inspectorudy in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 11:30 pm

The trouble with any poll is that it is only as good as the answers. Muslims are taught to lie when it benefits Islam. Also, 80% of “Peaceful” Muslims do not ever have to face a life-threatening choice. Like knowing and reporting who killed an anti-Muslim or a plan to terrorize any country. If their mosque has evil plans or meetings, they would have to make the choice to turn them in or remain silent. I wouldn’t trust one as far as I could throw one.

Milhouse in reply to inspectorudy. | October 13, 2023 at 3:03 am

That’s got nothing to do with it. We are discussing Bush’s famous claim that Islam is a religion of peace. 80% of Moslems are peace-loving. Given the choice between declaring war on them and thus turning them into your enemies, or embracing them and trying to turn them into allies or at least neutral parties, which is the smart thing to do?

Azathoth in reply to Milhouse. | October 13, 2023 at 10:57 am

          “80% of Moslems are peace-loving”

          Yes.

          They are.

What does this mean in an Islamic context?

It means they want the peace of Allah to spread throughout the world.

          How does that peace spread?

On a wave of unbeliever blood.

Azathoth in reply to ParkRidgeIL. | October 12, 2023 at 4:29 pm

“Question: Is Islam a religion of peace?”

    No.

And it is not intended to be.

It is intended as Allah’s weapon against the unbelievers.

It’s purpose is to bring the world to Allah.

Once this is done, there will be peace.

DaveGinOly in reply to Azathoth. | October 12, 2023 at 11:40 pm

Correct. 80% of Muslims are heretics, or at least not orthodox. Islam (the religion, not Muslims, its practitioners) is not a religion of peace. It teaches eternal war against non-believers.

Islam is a religion of Satan

#WhyIsraelExists and why it must exist.

Just have to say it. The hatred of Jews in academia is due to their success.

Asians are now beginning to feel the heat, but hatred of Jews is centuries old.

Milhouse in reply to Petrushka. | October 12, 2023 at 3:15 pm

All true, but academia is not relevant here. This is about a Jewish school warning its students that it’s not safe for them on the streets.

Eric R. in reply to Milhouse. | October 12, 2023 at 3:43 pm

Actually Milhouse, it’s very relevant. The source of most Jew-hatred today in the West is the far left, centered in academia. It is the products of that academia that run most media and cultural institutions that create the hate, or excuse the Islamists and THEIR hate. I have long heard the BBC referred to as the Belsen Broadcasting Corporation; it is as much a generator of Jew-hatred as Der Stuermer – slicker in its production and wording, but with far greater reach.

Milhouse in reply to Eric R.. | October 12, 2023 at 7:16 pm

We are discussing here the school’s fear that its students will be assaulted on the street if they are visibly Jewish. Open violence against Jews in the UK comes overwhelmingly not from leftist English students but from Moslems, who have no need to be brainwashed at university in order to hate Jews. They get enough of it in certain mosques, and at home.

“Indentities”?

In NY and other large cities, Jewish communities have an enhanced sense of security-but we will go to services, celebrate and observe Shabbos and holidays and our children and grandchildren will be studying Torah and secular studies in their yeshivos . Life goes on, even as we ramp up our support for Israel, the iIDF and the people of israel via prayer, sending anything that will help the war effort and showing solidarity with Israel

Richard Aubrey | October 13, 2023 at 9:29 am

Given the UK established’ s slavish, spineless fear of being seen as homophobic (see Rotherham), the likelihood of protection for Jews is slim.
