Rep. Jim Jordan Running for Speaker of the House

Rep. Jim Jordan Running for Speaker of the House

Reps. Matt Gaetz and Thomas Massie have endorsed him.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is running for Speaker of the House.

The House ousted Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday.

From The Washington Times:

A top aide confirmed to The Washington Times that Mr. Jordan, Ohio Republican, will compete for the top spot left vacant following Tuesday’s historic vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Mr. Jordan, 59, is among several Republicans now vying for the position, including Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota.

Among the mix of candidates, Mr. Jordan is likely to attract some of the most conservative Republicans and in particular members of the Freedom Caucus, who were unhappy with Mr. McCarthy and want the GOP leadership to fight more aggressively for spending cuts and more border security resources.

Jordan is also the House Judiciary Committee chairman.

The successful person will need all Rs to hold together. He/she will get NO Democrat vote (b/c the Ds are that hell-bent on ruining the constitutional order and normative society).

Well, Gaetz and his handful of Republicans were able to get 100% of the radical Democrats to vote for them, so there’s that.

So did McCarthy on several bills sent to the Senate including the CR.

If your claim to fame is getting a CR passed and a debt ceiling with no fixed dollar, amount assigned then he had no business running that show.

“Well, Gaetz and his handful of Republicans were able to get 100% of the radical Democrats to vote for them, so there’s that.”

You have read this exactly wrong.

McCarthy told Gaetz to ‘bring it’ because he thought he had DEMOCRAT support that would make Gaetz handful of loyalists moot.

McCarthy was relying on the Democrats to save him from Republicans.

And they betrayed him. As we all knew they would.

Hmm
He’s all show

Sucks for him. This job is garbage

I think Jim Jordan is an excellent choice.

What exact has he ever done but roll up his sleeves for television?

“Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either”

This isn’t going to happen without torches and pitchforks

I might have supported Jordan, but then I heard his stomach turning floor speech yesterday claiming McCarthy was the second coming. He didn’t have to make that speech, he could have shut up and voted however he wanted. He chose unwisely.

Besides, he is quite busy heading the Judiciary Committee where much is discussed, much is avoided, and nothing gets done.

Steve Scalese would be my choice at the moment.

      Is not a fighter

Plus the speaches of support when they were electing McCarthy. Stephanik too.

I don’t mind a no vote, because it’s as hard as me not voting for DeSantis if he is the nominee ( which he won’t be).

        inspectorudy in reply to thad_the_man. | October 4, 2023 at 2:02 pm

But you expect the other Republican candidates to come out a gush over Trump? That used to be the way things were done and it’s called “Coming together”. But now you think showing support for your previous opposition is a bad thing?

          thad_the_man in reply to inspectorudy. | October 4, 2023 at 3:03 pm

Yeah the RINOs “came together” with Trump after he won the primaries and general, but couldn’t wait to stab him in the back at the first opportunity.

He’s from Ohio, just like John Boehner. If he succeeds, here’s hoping he’s a conservative wanting to get things done.

my understanding is that with only the temporary speaker, the only bills that can come before the House is vote on the Speaker.

If that is so, I have a radical idea – no Speaker. No bills, no spending, no further destruction of this country.

All the things the House can’t do without a speaker

“No legislative function can occur on the House floor until a new speaker is elected. No votes or any other basic functions can occur on the floor of the House until the election has been resolved.

Despite the House floor being effectively paralyzed by the lack of a House speaker, committees may continue to work and function without a speaker. The current situation is less harmful to House functions outside of the floor than the vacant speakership was in January because a rules bill outlining how the 118th Congress will function has been passed, unlike nine months ago.”

‘No man’s life, liberty or property are safe when the legislature is in session’.

That may be true but there is another consequence. After the VP and the Speaker of the House, the Preseident pro tempore of the Senate is next in line for the Oval Office. With no Speaker, Patty Murray comes next if the Sweet Meteor of Death hits Biden and Harris .

That hissing sound you hear is the air leaking out of your head.

Maybe Trump will endorse McCarthy for Speaker again.

I wish Chip Roy would have put his hat in the ring.

    Agreed, I like him.

So do we. That’s why we elected him – but if you think that the Trumpbots would ever support him, you haven’t read his latest rant.

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to txvet2. | October 4, 2023 at 6:07 pm

C’mon txvet2, quit with the insults.

First, there are no Trumpbots, or enough of them, to reject Chip Roy for SoH.

Second, as an Independent voter who voted for Trump 2x, and would do so again if he is the nominee, I take it as a personal insult as if my vote is wasted. Perhaps I need to vote for Biden to make you happy.

Third, Chip Roy is currently sitting on his hands and hasn’t made a bid for the job. If her did, I would support that, but my vote doesn’t mean a Fuxking thing in who gets to be SoH.

I respect you, but I lose patience with the bullshit insults.

At this point, perhaps a vote for Governor Hair Gel would make you happy.

Wow. Now that would be fun to watch.

inspectorudy in reply to ChrisPeters. | October 4, 2023 at 2:06 pm

He speaks like we do here on this forum. He is not afraid to say what he feels and thinks. So many of the rats in DC are only concerned with getting re-elected. Term limits!

ChrisPeters in reply to inspectorudy. | October 4, 2023 at 2:25 pm

Not only is Chip Roy courageous enough to say what he feels and thinks, he is capable of bringing facts and data to the debate, and articulating why the Democrats and Establishment RINO’s are wrong on the issues.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | October 4, 2023 at 1:10 pm

I enthusiastically endorse Jim Jordan. He’ll make a great Speaker.

I can live with Jordan. At the moment, I’m doubtful that anyone can get essentially unanimous support from the membership, although since Gaetz has voiced his approval, I imagine the members the “Freedom Caucus” will go along, and the majority sort of follow the herd. His problems will come when he tries to actually govern.

Finicky Fat Guy | October 4, 2023 at 1:25 pm

Looking over the above comments is why the GOP always ultimately fails…. There is literally no cohesion among right leaning voters or politicians… there’s nothing anyone can do to not get a boatload of snark throw about them… every single thing they do or don’t do. Democrats are the worst people on the planet and most of their leaders are actually cognitively impaired and virtually all are corrupt BUT as long as they go for things generally headed in the right direction… hell.., then they are fine with any of them. Conservatives/the right/GOP…, every politician has to be the second coming of Christ perfect in every way, perfect stance on every policy, every phrase ever uttered in their lives and even that’s not enough…rip them up and throw them away…. And score another W for the Left

While Americans were upset at 80,000 new IRS agents this guy thought the solution was to move the HQ to his state…. right…. that was just about the $$ for him.

I’ve known Jim Jordan since 2006. He’s an outstanding choice.
