Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst Calls for the Closure of the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building

A couple of months ago, Legal Insurrection contributor Stacey Matthews reported that the crime and homelessness combination near the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building in San Francisco had gotten so dire, that Biden’s Health and Human Services Dept. advised some workers to keep working from home due to safety concerns.

Now, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) wants the building closed down until the “threat to public safety” has passed following an explosion of crime outside the facility.

“Working at a Department of Health and Human Services building shouldn’t be a risk to your health or life, but it is now due to former Speaker Pelosi and the other liberal politicians that have allowed criminal chaos to overtake the streets of San Francisco,” Ernst said in a statement to The Post.“If it’s not safe for federal employees to work here, it certainly can’t be safe for businesses to operate and families to live here,” she added. “I’m calling to shut down the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building. After all, they’ve already been forced to abandon it, so why should taxpayers keep the lights on in Nancy Pelosi’s haunted house?”Ernst, a staunch proponent of mandating that government employees return to work in person, made the pitch in a Wednesday letter to the General Services Administration, which manages the property.

In her remarks, Ernst made a seasonally appropriate comparison to the federal building and a “haunted house.”

A Republican Senator from Iowa called for the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building in San Francisco to be closed, comparing the complex to a “Halloween haunted house.”In a letter to the U.S. General Services Administration on Wednesday morning, Sen. Joni Ernst said she had become “extremely concerned” after learning of the conditions surrounding the building, saying “the city’s inability to control crime is endangering civil servants, children, and visitors.”In an accompanying post on X, she described the the building as being overwhelmed by “Zombie-like bodies with blank stares, shake & stumble about aimlessly, criminals wield weapons & shoot firearms.”

The spot around the federal building is a pristine example of what Pelosi’s Bay Area brand of progressive politics has wrought.

The area around the Federal Building has become a regular spot for drug dealers and drug users to congregate, deal, use and sometimes, pass out.“The plaza is a dangerous, open-air drug market, with addicts shooting up, snorting, and smoking drugs in plain view,” Ernst says in a letter to the Senate administrator, in which she calls for the building to be closed. In a news release on her website, Ernst blames conditions around the building on “far left policies that have incentivized crime” and reiterates her call for the building to be shut down.
