On his ‘Real Time’ show this weekend, liberal host Bill Maher took aim at Harvard and other elite schools for all of the anti-Israel and pro-Hamas protests we have seen over the last two weeks.

Maher goes so far as to tell any young people watching to skip college completely, a sentiment that is likely shared by an increasing number of parents in America.

FOX News has details:

Bill Maher mocks Ivy League schools for ‘indoctrination’ and anti-Israel hate: College ‘makes you stupid’

HBO host Bill Maher skewered America’s Ivy League universities Friday night, accusing them of being hotbeds of “indoctrination” after many student groups have been hammering Israel in the wake of Hamas’ deadly attack against that country.

Citing antisemitic rallies and statements cropping up in academia following the attack, the “Real Time with Bill Maher” host advised that young people should avoid attending these schools.

At the outset of the segment, Maher stated, “As an Ivy League graduate who knows the value of a liberal education, I have one piece of advice for the youth of America: Don’t go to college.”

Showing images of Pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel demonstrations at Harvard University, the comedian continued, “And if you absolutely have to go, don’t go to an elite college, because as recent events have shown, it just makes you stupid.”

Maher stated that the tragedy in Israel revealed “how higher education has become indoctrination into a stew of bad ideas, among them the simplistic notion that the world is a binary place where everyone is either an oppressor or oppressed, in the case of Israel, oppressors being babies and bubbes.”

The host was referring to Palestinian supporters on these campuses that have insisted that the Hamas attack was Israel’s fault for oppressing Palestinians.

The video is below. The first half is excellent, but you may want to skip the second. You’ll know when it’s time to stop when Maher starts bashing Republicans. Bill does this all the time. If he sounds too far right, he has to start trashing conservatives to let the left know he is still on their side.

I laughed out loud at one point where he holds up Obama as a product of Harvard who is some sort of paragon of virtue. If Obama attended Harvard today, which side does Bill think he would be on?

Bill Maher often seems so close to getting it, but then he snaps right back to trashing the right. There is only one side leading the madness we see on college campuses right now, and it’s not conservatives.

A question: were Harvard or Yale EVER really “all that”, compared to other colleges? Or, like certain European cars, is the reputation just not deserved?

Does having a lawyer with an Ivy League law degree really mean much when going against a good lawyer who went to night school at Southwestern?

I suspect it might. The judge went to law school too (not the way it should be, but the way it is) and probably from the “prestige” pipeline. I was reading an article saying that even if you’re a law partner looking to move laterally to another partnership, the business you bring with you probably matters most, but your law school is another big thing. Lawyers are obsessed with this ranking.

“Remember that it is not the lawyer who knows the most law, but the one who best prepares his case, who wins.”

    ― Napoleon Hill,

I went to a middle tier law school but eventually made my way to a prestigious law firm full of Ivy League lawyers. I was literally afraid that I wouldn’t be able to compete with them until I discovered, after being there a while, that many of them were complete idiots who had no idea what they were doing. Getting a diploma from an Ivy League school gives one membership to a club. That’s the Ivy League value.

Law schools are generally quite distinct from the rest of a campus, so Harvard’s reputation for weak undergrad education (you never see the big names you read about from there) would have little relation to their law school. Pretty much, law school is law school and it’s successful if you pass the bar, and some places like Yale teach so little practical bar-prep material that some of their graduates are ill-prepared. Example: Hillary Rodham, Yale Law graduate, who failed the DC bar and went way out to Arkansas to try again, where she was able to pass and also reconnect with fellow law student Clinton whom she had pretty much dumped back in law school, but was more attractive now that he was doing so well in state politics.

They’ve been riding on reputation for decades. While they have had some excellent faculty members in the past, that time is pretty much gone. Their presses publish mostly junk (as far as the liberal arts go) and they churn out little woketards by the dozen.

The big law firms are paying top dollar for presumed meritocratic sorting of the herd through LSAT and anonymous grading of timed exams. As long as they keep hiring we can presume they have the strongest cognitive minds.

He should have said it is the Wuhan Institute of Virology not a wet market but he still isn’t allowed to believe that.

If Bill keeps dissing his own peeps, he will find himself censored, cancelled, doxed and prosecuted. He needs to stick to the woke dogma like the enlightened progressive we know he is. The entertainment industry demands only the wokest.

More like Ft. Detrick. Intentionally developing poison.

Bill is a whore. I suspect everyone faces that dilemma some time or other. The gut-wrenching question being how much of my soul can I afford to sell / compromise? Politicians who switch sides when the demographics of their district change or the polls shift? Reporters / anchors for conservative media defect to liberal media? Lawyers who represent the guilty? A person of faith who tends toward pascifism helped manufacture nuclear weapons?

I suspect the first half of Maher’s monologue is what he really things, the second half was to “pay the bills”.

You’ve seen those horror movies where the walls turn stretchy rubber, and things from behind the walls start reaching out to grab you, but can’t get very far out before the wall pulls them back in?
The wall is liberalism, and Maher’s one of those things behind it.

What he said was as disjointed as Biden. The only crazies that Harvard has produced are apparently not progressives, even though progressives are the ones he railed against in the here and now. Cognitive dissonance.

“If ignorance is a disease, Harvard Yard is the Wuhan wet market.”

Funny … but it would have been funnier if he had tried to be closer to the true analogy:

“If ignorance is a disease, Harvard Yard is the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Nothing came from the Wuhan wet market.

Just in passing, but does anyone else get the feeling that Academia [including the service academies]. from pre-school to post-doc, have seceded from what we consider to be America as fervently as the Confederacy seceded from the United States?

As someone who has lived many years in the Far East and done a lot of food shopping in “wet markets” (without ill effect), I say that Bill Maher has slandered great places to by fish, poultry, and pork.

    For Sure.
Come from a rather large family of 7 and each have had 2 to 6 children.
Among all the professions you listed we have at least 2 in each field and can add to it with 2 Farmers, A Dry Waller, A Cabinet builder and Heavy Equipment operator. We also have high school and elementary teachers and 1 Principal They all own property and several are now enjoying a nice retirement of NY and Fla. while their kids are sticking to the family plan of good skills, good pay. Also, I don’t need to hire out side of family and I benefit with a ‘good guy rate’ !

The world can end now. I agreed with Bill Maher on something.

If there were a 12-step recovery program for liberals, Maher would be on step 1 where he had admitted there is a problem, but not really at step 3 yet where he has accepted that liberalism is a problem. My take is that he is hedging his bets hoping that there isn’t a lamppost with his name on it somewhere.

Correction if ignorance is a disease, harvard is like the wuhan virology institute.
