Where is Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs?

Where is Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs?

The Republican state treasurer is acting governor until mid-day Thursday. Is Hobbs gone because the Senate won’t confirm her agency director nominees?

On Wednesday night, Arizona Republican Treasurer Kimberly Yee announced she would be acting governor from the evening until mid-day Thursday:

While I am pleased to step in this role, I will refrain from naming directors to the 13 agencies that currently have vacancies and will not call the Arizona Legislature into session to confirm them. That being said, I do hope when the Governor returns to Arizona, she will promptly name qualified directors to these important state agencies and remve the legal uncertainty that exists for all of the regulatory actions taken by the agencies. I expect to see a swift resolution to this matter, so we can get back to getting the work done for Arizona taxpayers. The people of Arizona deserve leaders who follow the rule of law.

What is going on?!

First off, Yee being put in charge means Hobbs and others are out of the state because Yee is third in line to the governorship.

Arizona doesn’t have a lieutenant governor.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, a Democrat, is first in line. Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, is second in line. Then, the state’s treasurer.

From what I can tell, the disappearance of Hobbs and the other two could be because of the Senate and the confirmation of agency directors.

Hobbs withdrew the nominations of 13 potential agency directors because of supposed obstruction.

Hobbs appointed them as “executive deputy directors” to get around Senate confirmation.

The Arizona Senate worked like the U.S. Senate concerning nominations. The vetting took place in front of the relevant committee. If the nominee passes the committee, the person goes to the full Senate.

However, Senate President Warren Peterson, a Republican, formed the Committee on Director Nominees to vet Hobbs’ nominees.

I have to admit the new way is weird. It’s suspicious Peterson did this just as the state voted in its first Democratic governor in 14 years.

Some nominees haven’t had their time in front of the committee. The committee rejected many nominees, causing Hobbs to withdraw their nominations.

Hobbs won’t send any nominations to the Senate until it returns to the old format.

Yee said Hobbs making them “executive deputy directors” is illegal. Therefore, Yee won’t recognize them.

Yee refused to allow those appointed to the position in the Department of Administration and the Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions since they are not directors:

Lawyers for the Treasurer’s Office and outside counsel advised her that the legal status of the employees as agency bosses was now “murky,” which led her to “not recognize” two of Hobbs’ appointees as at a State Board of Investment meeting, Yee told The Arizona Republic Wednesday.

As a result, she said, the two appointees — Barbara Richardson of the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions and Elizabeth Thorson of the Arizona Department of Administration — could not participate in the meeting.

“This absence of a lawfully appointed director to serve from these two agencies create legal uncertainty,” Yee said. “It really does jeopardize the proceedings of the State Board of Investment and will continue to do so until the governor reinstalls legitimate directors into these positions.”

Or is Hobbs and the others gone because President Joe Biden is in Phoenix?

I doubt that. Even though I wouldn’t blame Hobbs and any other Democrat for not wanting to be around Biden.

Hobbs may have had an urgent meeting called by Mr. Soros. She’s NOT going to mess up her campaign funding source.

Strange, indeed. Maybe it is a meeting to figure how to steal the next election in 2024, seeing as how Biden had ZERO ground game in Arizona and absolutely no presence here, yet he won the state such that Fox News called the state foe Biden before they even started counting the votes.

If Yee had the votes in the statehouse, she should have nominated and confirmed the offices. Moreover, they should have passed defunding bills, stating that those people who were illegally pointed to governor-made up posts will not be paid.

I think that her going to Mexico and meting with their government about the border jumpers is not on list as to why she has vacated her post

This is the governor who was in charge of elections right before being elected governor, right?

Maybe the Michigan FBI office sent some of their folks down to Arizona…?

I am curious why the Secretary of State wasn’t made interim Gov. I believe under the AZ constitution, the SoS is next in the line of secession (AZ ‘s Constitution does not yet include a provision for a SoS, although that’s changing in 2027).

Are both Hobbs and her Secretary of State together…out of state?

Someone will need to explain why being absent helps the Governor in her fight with the state Senate over her nominations.

Ms. Yee will not, given her 18 hours as acting governor, act to withdraw nominations, stop their pay, etc. That would be an abuse of power. She is behaving correctly.

The republican-controlled Senate is playing hard ball — good! Perhaps the Pubs in Washington could learn from their example. Apparently the governor is complaining that the confirmation process is being used as a weapon. I seem to recall Senator Schumer (and Senator McConnell) doing the same thing in DC. That’s politics, governor.

No, it wouldn’t. It would be perfectly appropriate. And the right thing to do.

Yee is legally the Governor. Hobbs’ people are not legally the directors of anything and should not be allowed to run things without Senate confirmation as a means to get around said confirmation.

Yee is third in line. Hobbs could have left one of the other two in charge if she wanted her illegal selections protected from the Governor’s desk.

Arrest Katie Hobbs, now.

She was last seen boarding an airplane piloted by her good friend Amelia.

I kinda figure that she took the Secretary of State and Attorney General with her either because there is some sort of Democrat internal politics such that she does not trust them in power for a few hours, OR they are plotting some sort of electoral fraud and/or attack on the country.

No mystery at all. It was to stop Hobbs from playing Reindeer Jackass Games. Read his explanation here.

Arizona did not elect a Democratic governor..

I’m not sure what is being implied here. Hobbs took off for what reason? She is miffed and abandoned her ill gotten post? To what end?
It is just as likely she needed an emergency medical procedure. Are we to believe that the lady who took over has no idea what is going on?

“It is just as likely she needed an emergency medical procedure”
And took her second and third in succession with her to hold her hand?

What – surgically pulling their heads out of their….being polite here for a change…. donkeys?

She has two hands. Maybe she needed a group hug. Maybe she doesn’t know who the father is and demanded both be present. IDK.
The top 3 leaving the state says to me they might have a big problem politically or legally.

Everyone would understand if it was a emergency medical procedure.

However why take the number 2 and 3 person with you? In fact where are the number 2 and 3 people?

That doesn’t raise a red flag for you?

To quote Paulie in Goodfellas “they should leave her where ever the hell she is”FJB

The usurper and her minions have fled the state, the governor needs to reclaim her rightful place.

Well, it’s Friday so we should be able to find out where she went any minute now. Any minute….

(Can we make the joke “Katie Hobbs was found to have information which will lead to the arrest and conviction of Hillary Clinton…”)

Is someone going through and randomly downvoting? They’re not consistent, it seems. Nor targeted this time.
Weirdness. Kinda like the Hobbs thing.
