Houses Passes Three Spending Bills, But Will Vote on a Stopgap Bill to Prevent Shutdown

The House will vote on the stopgap bill today.

Late Thursday night, because of course, the House passed three out of 12 spending bills.

Three is not enough, though. So, the House will vote on a stopgap bill today to keep the government funded (gross) for 45 days.

Just shut it down. If a shutdown affects as many people as the left says it will (the end of the world, you guys) it is proof we need to slash the government.

The defense spending bill went through, but members of both parties shot down the FDA/agriculture bill:

House lawmakers voted to pass three of four appropriations bills brought to the floor on Thursday night, with defense spending passing along bipartisan lines while their bill on agriculture and FDA spending was sunk by both Republicans and Democrats.

The House GOP majority has now passed four of the 12 individual spending bills it promised to get across the finish line to fund the government for the next fiscal year.

The passage is a modest win for House Republicans after over a week of chaos and disagreements that saw multiple attempts to advance spending bills fail or scuttled altogether. However, a government shutdown is still growing likely with less than two days for the House and Senate to agree on a deal before the Oct. 1 midnight deadline.

Republicans’ defense spending bill passed 218 to 210, with Democrat Reps. Jared Golden of Maine and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington joining the GOP to pass it. Republican Reps. Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Ken Buck of Colorado voted against it.

But the House cannot vote on eight more spending bills before midnight on October 1.

Here comes the stopgap bill, also known as a continuing resolution (CR). This is designed to keep the government funded for 45 days as they try to negotiate how much more of our money they want to spend:

It is expected to cut government spending by about 8% for that duration and include measures from the House GOP’s H.R. 2 border security bill, minus its eVerify provision.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told reporters on Thursday that the bill would also create a commission to study the federal debt.

You need to study the federal debt? This is all you need to know:

>>The House will vote on the stopgap bill today.<<

And that "stopgap bill" won't make any effort whatsoever to reduce/eliminate the wild, out of control spending by the democrats in Congress and White House. $33 TRILLION and counting in debt with no end in sight until the whole rotten thing collapses and takes our economy with it.

republicans. Effing cowards. The whole lot.

Not the folks in the HoR who vote against the CR.

Personally I would say eff it and make them pass a CR that runs until Jan 2nd or no CR at all. That does two things, first it removes the BS ‘pressure’ of the media and useful idiots crying that the sky will fall if we don’t have a budget right flipping now and it pushes the CR past the Jan 1st trigger date for automatic qspending reduction. The Congress managed to pass sort of a miniature sequestration with a penalty of a 1% spending reduction if a CR is still in use or the 12 Appropriations bills (or omnibus) haven’t been passed before midnight on 31 December, 2023. That would align everyone’s incentives to get regular order done for spending in the extended time available.

The RINOs just vote to give more money to ukraine

We are all dem commies now

But please, voice your thoughts to your and other congressmen , and vote harder

That can must be pretty beat up since it’s been being kicked down the road since Bush 41.

“The United States House of Representatives has approved an additional $300 million aid for Ukraine.”

Keep the receipts. Maybe we can get a refund if the war ends ‘early’.

I’m still trying to figure out how McCarthy defends having given the House a month and a half “vacation” this summer? It’s not as if these deadlines weren’t known to every single person on Earth. It’s not as if this country is in mortal danger and is being run into the ground by nihilist Marxist scum.

The feral government should be shut down for a good while. Many parts of the feral government, and specific positions, need to be defunded and stopped. Subpoenas need to be issued. Other impeachments of the junta lieutenants need to be started.

There is so much work that needs to be done to even have the possibility of saving this nation … but McCarthy thought that the House was so tired and spent after having totally caved on the debt limit that they needed to jet off for half the summer to play on the beach.

McCarthy is a real failure. I gave him a chance and wanted him to really succeed but he is an awful failure and has used the threat of the slim GOP majority to insert himself into leadership and end failing on every important point.

Shut it down.

Start closing agencies, permanantly.

That will free up a lot of money.

The Repubs decided to surrender this time and really fight next time,…..LOL

In part of my first career as a professional journalist (when that actually meant something), I was a labor reporter whose work was recognized by the Columbia Journalism Review (when it was worth a shit) as one of the best of its kind in the country.

My work wasn’t just about unions, and I made a real effort to write about non-union workers too. In particular, having been a victim of outright wage theft at a time when I really and truly needed the money, whenever I learned of it I went balls to the wall against the perpetrators, within the accepted constraints that have now vanished.

Anyway, I developed a real respect for unions that did the right work of respresening their people. They were highly transactional and pragmatic, which I really respected. One of the honest union guys told me something that I have never forgotten, after they’d lost a contract dispute.

It hurt them badly, and the guy said this: “We will live to fight another day.” And they did, and they won later on.

The House Republicans are idiots if they shut down the government. It’s a juvenile stunt, grabbing all the marbles and going home. There is great dissatisfaction across the land with the Democrats, but if they do this they will snatch defeat from the jaws of the victory to come later.

This is both a character test and an I.Q. test. We shall see if they pass it, or whether they decide that political suicide is what they want.

The House Republicans are idiots if they shut down the government.

The government shuts down for two days every single week and for all manner of expanding BS federal holidays. The government “shutting down” doesn’t mean anything. The government needs to be “shut down” (for real) for a good time.

What is idiocy is that an extra $2 TRILLION were tacked on for EMERGENCY COVID spending … and the dems have continued to spend those extra EMERGENCY $2 TRILLION every year since. THat has to stop. The federal government expenditure in 2019 was around $4 trillion. It jumped up over $6 trillion in 2020, because of so-called EMERGENCY spending but it’s been growing over that $6 trillion ever since. There are TWO TRILLION DOLLARS that need to be cut from federal spending IMMEDIATELY and that must be done. Little else is as important – when it comes to the federal government running.

Further, the federal government is mostly a destructive entity, these days. Every day it’s shut is a day of rest for America.

Now this is concerning. If there’s a shutdown, how will the Biden administration continue its efforts to dismantle border security and funnel in illegal aliens? What about the DOJ/FBI? Harassing political opponents and other innocents can be costly. And the climate fraud? How will the climate grifters get paid? Destroying a country ain’t cheap.

Now that Feinstein is dead, how does this change the senate calculus?

Does this make Sinema the ultimate kingmaker until a replacement happens?

We’re so close to meeting our 5,000 supporter goal for the Quarter. Hundreds of folks have chipped in today after my team reached out. We’re only 56 supporters away from our goal!

I’m asking one more time before our midnight deadline if you’ll join Team Sinema?

Doesn’t sound like a kingmaker to me. Sounds like a mendicant.

Kevin’s doing everything he can till he’s replaced by a “real” commie
