Germany Has Reached Its ‘Limit’ on Migration, Admits Left-Wing President

Germany’s president, who was once cheered by the mainstream media for criticizing President Donald Trump for securing the U.S. border by building a wall, has admitted that his country has reached the “limit of its capacity” and can’t take any more illegal immigrants.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a Social-Democrat who served as foreign minister in Angela Merkel’s government (2013-2017), is now telling other European countries to exercise “stronger controls and surveillance at our external borders.”

In 2016, Steinmeier told Americans that “building walls” to secure national borders was “a very bad idea.”

“The worst thing [we] could do is seal ourselves off,” Steinmeier warned. “So if you ask me, building walls is a very bad idea — no matter who pays for them.” He also called Trump a ‘hate preacher’ for taking a stand against mass migration.

As Germany now faces perhaps the worst migrant wave since 2015, Steinmeier has changed his tune. He and the rest of the German political establishment are terrified as support for the right-wing opposition party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) reaches new heights in opinion polls.

Germany’s state-owned DW TV reported the German president’s desperate remarks:

Germany is facing difficulties in taking in more migrants, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Wednesday.”Germany, like Italy, is at the limit of its capacity,” Steinmeier said in an interview with Italian Newspaper Corriere della Sera, pointing out that Germany had received a third of all EU asylum requests in the first half of 2023.The president acknowledged that both Italy and Germany had “heavy loads to bear” and called for a “fair distribution” of migratory burdens within Europe.Steinmeier is starting his three-day visit to Italy on Wednesday, where he will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and visit the southern Italian island of Sicily.Italian authorities have recently started transferring some migrants to Sicily from the smaller island of Lampedusa, which is being overwhelmed by record arrival numbers. To limit the number of people coming to Europe, Steinmeier said that “stronger controls and surveillance at our external borders” were needed. (…)Last week, Germany suspended the voluntary intake of migrants from Italy until further notice. The Interior Ministry said Italy was itself refusing to take back people whose asylum process Rome is responsible for under EU law.

The worrisome comments come as Europe is on the verge of another migrant crisis. More than 10,000 illegal migrants from North Africa have swarmed the Italian island of Lampedusa in the span of a few days, forcing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government to pass tougher anti-immigration measures.

The European Union urges Germany and other member states to settle the newly-arriving migrants to ease Italy’s burden. The EU, driven by the woke open border ideology, has failed to secure Europe’s outer borders. Brussels has repeatedly threatened Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic with punitive measures for their stance against mass migration.

Steinmeier cheers Islam ‘taking roots’ in Germany

As Europe is flooded by intruders from Muslim-majority countries from North Africa and the Middle East, German President Steinmeier has been busy celebrating the ‘diversity’ Islam and its followers were bringing to Germany. “Islam, the Muslim religion, Muslim life, Muslim culture have taken root in our country,” Steinmeier cheerfully declared in the city of Cologne on Saturday. “Today the diversity of Islam, the diversity of over 5 million Muslims, is also part of our country.”
