COVID: Maryland School Forcing Third Graders to Wear an N-95 Mask

Third-graders at Rosemary Hills Elementary School in Montgomery County, MD, must wear an N95 mask after some students tested positive for COVID.
OutKick Founder Clay Travis posted a letter the school allegedly sent to the parents.
“Additional KN95 masks have been distributed and students and staff in identified classes or activities will be required to mask while in school for the next 10 days, except when eating or drinking,” wrote Principal Rebecca Irwin Kennedy. “Masks will become optional again following the 10 day period.”
The schools will also make COVID-19 tests available for the families.

N95s are not designed for children. And, in any case, they must be professionally fitted and fit-tested. And even then, they are not effective at stopping viruses.

This is a local story for me, and my answer is simply a derisive snort. Even the parents who have the means to remove their kids to non-government schools will do it quietly.

Where the school is? NOPE. That being said the fastest way to shut them down doing mask mandates is going after the surety bonds of the school board for practicing medicine without a license by mandating a mask for a disease that has a CFR of .0086%.

The demand to wear masks is downright stupid, and to demand for youngsters to wear masks is beyond idiotic. Multiple randomized tests have shown masks do nothing, nada, to prevent the Wu flu. Making people wear masks is to pretend to be doing something, or malevolently to assert control. Demanding that youngsters wear masks is even more useless. Children overwhelmingly do not get the Wu flu, and when they do, they survive. Unfortunately, the Maoist State Media have been hyping what they claim to be a spike in the Wu flu. When I look at the data, I find it very difficult to see the spike the media claim to be there. Certainly, deaths from the Wu flu are way down. This mask mandate for these children is beyond idiotic.

We have known for decades that these masks are less than worthless (as an emergency responder and worker in the nuclear weapons industry I taught this from the start of my career 30+ years ago) and yet they still feel the need to try and maintain a lie that only they believe anymore. They have become the Baghdad Bob of health via fear porn. These people are too foolish to understand that only diehard Leftists believe this claptrap anymore and that by making these demands they are destroying what little credibility and election support they had left.

If it’s virulent/disabling enough to require masks, then why is anyone even going? Seems the school needs a full decontamination over the next several weeks, and the teachers and administrators need to be quarantined (not at home; noooo, in an institution where they can be closely observed for symptoms while totally isolated from anyone).

Nope. Maryland funds schools through taxing all residents, not just those with kids enrolled.
They get their money no matter how many show up.
That is different from State to State. In my state schools get funds from the schools based on attendance per day. So say that each booty in a seat gets them $20 (totally made up number), then each seat that is not filled up to their max number of seats is $20 less than they get. That is usually above their standard budget, which are kept lower because of this set up.
I find it interesting that while this is a public school, there doesn’t seem to be any published test score data available for it. In fact, I can’t find any testing data for schools in Montgomery County Public School District.

Overall just 19% of students in Maryland were competent in math for their grade level. In the Baltimore region it was less than 5%. That’s right, 95% of kids can’t do math at their grade level but lets worry about face diapers on people that have a near 0% chance of getting severely ill from any Covid variant.

Masks are not respirators. Look it up. N95 respirators can be effective for some things.. but they need to be fitted, and NOT removed. Children will be taking them on and off.. it is ridiculous from the git go.

If they are so worried about the Wu flu, why not demand the children wear hazmat suits? And why don’t the rest of the school staff wear hazmat suits? Those are guaranteed to work, masks not so much.
There’s a reason why researchers working with airborne viruses were moon suits, and not surgical, cotton, or N95 masks.

Some will continue to passively go along with it while others will passively refuse. The Covid Karens should be wary of the day when those who refuse stop being passive and decide to ratchet up their own actions to meet or exceed the aggression of the Covid Karens.
As others have noted, Wuhan Flu isn’t that dangerous to kids (really, not at all, unless there’s some other big issue). And you shouldn’t be sending a symptomatic kid to school, no matter what is causing it. And masks don’t do much of anything with healthy, non-symptomatic* people.
(* If you’re being gross – coughing, sneezing, dribbling – then, yes, a mask will help reduce the viral load you’re shedding. You’re also gonna need to replace your mask frequently, ’cause eeewwwwww.)

If you have the money, find a private school for your kids. Even then you have to make sure it’s not woke and they are following the science, not the ScienceTM. It’s a culture war. I was told that FOX reported today that Rand Paul said that not a single child under 18 without a co-morbidity died from Covid and that there has been a significant increase in heart issues with those who have gotten 3 or more shots.
Agree that virtually no child died from Covid with the exception of those children who were already suffering from a life threatening disease. further agree that masking retards the natural development of the childs immune system. stopping kids from catching germs is good in short term, but creates long term problems.
Not sure about the 3 vax shots causing higher rates of heart issues, that being said, the rates of child / young adult heart issues is very close to being statistically the same whether from vax or from natural covid infection. The heart issue from vax is heavily overblown. though there remains no reason for children to get vaxed.
The parents of all children who have any sort of speech impediment or any type of delayed developmental issue should band together and sue the daylights out of anyone and everyone involved in these mandates.
These are children of Democrat voters, “students” who don’t actually have to earn a passing grade in even a single field of knowledge in order to get promoted and to graduate.

Thank you for your letter. I forwarded a copy to my attorney to memorialize your taking full responsibility and liability to “[…] prevent further transmission of Covid-19 in this group”. We can infer that any and all airborne virus transmission within the entire property is also under the jurisdiction of your medical expertise as a “Principal”.
Further, a copy of this letter will be sent to N95 mask manufacturers to bring to their attention future liability should a wearer contract Covid-19 while using their product in a manner as directed by you or any employee of the school.

I no longer live in Montgomery County MD. I left years ago to join the military, and had to go back occasionally at the behest do Uncle Sam. But I left every opportunity I got, and never looked back.

We have to have two incomes in order to live in a neighborhood with good public schools. So we can’t afford to remove our children from public schools and homeschool or send them to a private school.

Move to a less expensive neighborhood. Move to a state with school choice. You can pay now (in money and effort) or you can pay much more later (in the damage to your children).
