Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is declaring a state of emergency due to the number of illegal immigrants coming into the state. Numbers in the Bay State are still much lower than that of Texas.

FOX News reports:

Massachusetts gov declares state of emergency due to surge of migrants; calls for federal action

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in the liberal state over a surge of migrants that she says has left social services overwhelmed, and she called for more funding and help from the federal government.

Healey, a Democrat, announced that a state of emergency exists “due to rapid and unabating increases in the number of families with children and pregnant people — many of them newly arriving migrants and refugees — living within the state but without the means to secure safe shelter in our communities.”

The state said there are nearly 5,600 families or more than 20,000 people in the state shelter system. Healey said there are numerous contributing factors, including “federal policies on immigration and work authorization” as well as a lack of affordable housing and the end of COVID-era programs.

Here’s a video report:

Healey also took a dig at the Biden administration, according to Politico:

Mass. governor slams White House for ‘federal crisis of inaction’ on migrants

On Tuesday, Healey declared a state of emergency that essentially puts the National Guard on speed dial and expedites the processes for creating or renting more migrant housing.

The emergency declaration will allow the state to “utilize and operationalize all means necessary” to secure more accommodations and assist the more than 5,000 families currently in the state’s crowded shelters, Healey said during a press conference at the State House.

It also provides an avenue for the governor to more directly pressure the Biden administration for additional assistance. In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Tuesday, Healey called on the White House to expedite work permits for asylum-seekers, slamming the administration for what she described as “a federal crisis of inaction that is many years in the making.”

Hypocrites. They don’t even apologize.

….families with children and pregnant people. I would let her suffer for that ignorant comment alone. Pregnant people. Now really..

I think the lesbian Governor should operationalize her emergency powers to house them all on Beacon Hill, and also issue food vouchers for Michelin 3-star restaurants. John Kerry can make himself useful to his new neighbors by offering concierge services and lending his limo for cultural excursions to the MFA and its purlieus.

What does her being a Lesbian have to do with it?

As a good Irish Catholic she surely accepts the unalterable, timeless teaching of the Catholic Church as clearly contained in the Magisterium. It holds that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered- the product
of an immature, selfish and disordered mind. Such a mind and such a hypocrite should not be in a position of power.

“house them all on Beacon Hill”
Not all. MV and Nantucket are larger than most people believe.
    Plus, they are enviably wealthy.
Shouldn’t the wealthy be forced to share their bounty with the needy and deserving?
    It’s the Democrat Way™!

I don’t get your point. The Beacon Hill townhouses are pricier than the island mansions. I used to enjoy them with a beantown house sitter lady.

All good and well to declare your state a “Sanctuary State” but when push comes to shove and the illegals start to appear then it’s all, “Not In My Back Yard!” NIMBY! NIMBY! NIMBY!

Now is the time the Southern states need to step up their game and start sending even more illegals to those states that sanctimoniously declared themselves “sanctuary states” and let them deal with those filthy disease-ridden, unemployed people freely crossing our border. Why should the southern states have all the fun.

Force them to have THEIR skin in the game. They had no objections when it was your skin. Force them to start paying the price for their leftist policies. And force is what the left feeds us all the time.

    Eat it, lefties, eat it!

There is plenty of room on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and since most of the residents there will soon be leaving to return to their principal residences. I’m sure that the migrants will be welcome to stay at their summer residences during the off-season. That would really demonstrate to the unenlightened how the wealthy show their wonderful wokeness.

With Obama’s chef out of the way, they certainly can squeeze in an extra migrant illegal alien or two.

Plus I’m sure that a fair percentage of these new folks are actually quite accomplished cooks. Get them a barrel of pseudoephedrine, and they’ll be serving up their famous street fare in no time!

Karma is a bitch! You voted for the guy that campaigned on letting at least 3 million illegals into the country ,…but I doubt that you will take the step necessary to correct you mistake in 2024

Previous to today, the alleged illegal immigrant “invasion,” was an esoteric-philosophical-academic discussion.

Thirty years riding their high horse.

Exactly so. Easy to virtue signal in the abstract but far harder to actually live up to your stated ‘principles’ when the consequences arrive on your doorstep.

Not one dime in increased federal aid should be allowed to flow any sanctuary jurisdiction until the full costs of illegal immigration since 1965 are repaid with interest to the Red jurisdictions along the border and in rural America.

Thirty years.

And all it took were thirty or forty Greyhound bus loads debarking passengers in Boston to break the will of the enemy. Our culture-war enemies are fragile.

Healy is just another pathetic and clueless Massachusetts Marxist (we are awash with them here), hence my departure to the FREE STATE of Florida. The state already spends just under $2B a year on illegals, now she confesses to another $500M in “emergency” spending needs.

Solution: KEEP THEM OUT. Shut off the freebies and the problem will disappear, but an understanding of economic laws remain elusive to these Harvard educated fools.

If you want them here, YOU pay for them. Don’t be coming around with your hand out looking for anything from those of us who would rather send them back to their own countries. We don’t want the damn criminals here.

CommoChief in reply to Ironclaw. | August 9, 2023 at 11:29 am

Exactly. Require each illegal immigrant being released pending an asylum or deportation hearing and otherwise present to have US Citizen Sponsor. That Sponsorship isn’t pro forma but instead should require posting of a $50K bond for appearance to the hearing(s) as well as assuming 100% of the financial costs both direct and indirect of each illegal immigrant.

For worker visa do the same for the employer then hold the employer responsible for ensuring that worker departs on time at the end of their visa.

The entire country needs a state of emergency related to illegal aliens.

Whatever happened to ‘in this state we believe no human being is illegal….’ ?

Good times, good times.

Suburban Farm Guy | August 9, 2023 at 10:53 am

What kind of reprobates offer desperate people sanctuary but don’t mean it?

Shoot the invaders. Just shoot them. Emergency ended.

First of all, GTFOOH with this “pregnant people” crapola. Second, you have declared yourself a sanctuary state, so pony up lady and stop complaining. There are plenty of under utilized mansions that would be perfect for housing these people.

Bucky Barkingham | August 9, 2023 at 12:30 pm

One wonders how many of the “migrants” would use, or even understand, the term “pregnant people”?

LMFLAO (laughing my fat Latino a** off!)! So a leftist Blue Sanctuary state all of the sudden has no room at the inn left for those who they specifically targeted for shelter/protection in their own self-righteous male bovine excrement? BWAHAHAHAHA….such hypocrites….such damn stupid hypocrites….

Mass is a sanctuary state. Boston, Springfield, Cambridge etc all sanctuary cities. Don’t whine when your virtue signaling ends up on your doorstep. Raise taxes in your state to pay for the illegals you asked for don’t come crying to us Hicks in flyover who don’t want them

“…increases in the number of families with children and pregnant people…”

Pregnant people. She means mothers, right?

Border states need to rent out 100 car trains to send them more illegal aliens.
Then maura can ask her fellow democrats to take in 10 illegal immigrants into their personal homes to virtue signal to us heathens how we should act.

I’ve got popcorn already.

What I’m hearing is, Massachussetts’ “leaders” are terrible hosts!

First they invited everyone over with their “Sanctuary State” pretty talk, then they failed to prepare enough lodging and refreshments for everyone who RSVP’d, and now they’re declaring a “state of emergency” when they receive the cleaners’ bill.

Seriously, if you’re going to throw a soiree, put some thought and planning into it!

What jerks! Never attend one of their parties! “0 stars, would not recommend!”
