‘Proud’ Dem’s Racist Reaction to SCOTUS Affirmative Action Ruling Has Folks Wondering Progressive or Parody? (UPDATE: Bot Account)

“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a direct attack on Black people. No Black person will be able to succeed in a merit-based system which is exactly why affirmative-action based programs were needed. Today’s decision is a TRAVESTY!!!”

Update – Monday 7/3/23, 10:45 a.m. ET: Podcast host Greg Boulden did some extensive digging and found out the Erica Marsh Twitter account was a “liberal dystopian bot” account. The account has been suspended. This post has also been updated to include screengrabs of the original tweets. We’ll have more details later in a separate post.

————
Not surprisingly, the Very Online Left lost their minds in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling in a 6-3 decision Thursday to strike down the use of race-based criteria in college admissions on grounds it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

One, in particular, has gotten a lot of attention for saying what some called “the quiet part out loud” on how Democrats really feel about black people.

A Twitter user who goes by the name Erica Marsh, and whose Twitter bio states “Proud Democrat: Former Field Organizer to elect President Biden. Volunteer for the Obama Foundation. (She/Her) 💙,” wrote the following tweet not long after the ruling was handed down (archived tweet link):

“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a direct attack on Black people. No Black person will be able to succeed in a merit-based system which is exactly why affirmative-action based programs were needed. Today’s decision is a TRAVESTY!!!”

https://twitter.com/ericareport/status/1674453321078415362, https://archive.is/kDLWH

Needless to say, the tweet prompted some strong reactions from conservatives, especially black conservatives:

Because the tweet was virtually indistinguishable from something a woke Democrat would actually say if they let the full mask slip, it had some people wondering if it was a parody, particularly leftists who were embarrassed that the tweet hit a little too close to the mark as to their true colors:

Others have suggested the account is an AI bot:

For the record, the person running the account has denied (archived tweet link) being a parody writer, and in later tweets sought to clarify what they wrote, as if it makes what they originally said any better (archived tweet link):

Allow me to clarify this tweet, which is being manipulated for propaganda and misinformation by ULTRA MAGA.

The intention of my tweet is to highlight that prior to affirmative action, there existed a supposedly merit-based system for Black individuals to gain admission to colleges. However, these institutions employed racial profiling to prevent Black individuals from attending under the guise of this “merit” system.

I want to emphasize that my statement in no way suggests that Black individuals are less intelligent than people of other races.

And then (archived tweet link):

I want to sincerely apologize for my previous tweet yesterday regarding affirmative action. I now realize that it didn’t effectively convey my intended message and has been co-opted by ULTRA MAGA propagandizers. I deeply regret any offense or harm it may have caused.

My aim was to express concerns about the recent Supreme Court decision and its potential impact on equal opportunities.

I want to make it clear that I strongly believe in creating a fair and level playing field for everyone, regardless of their race or ethnicity. I understand the historical and ongoing challenges faced by Black individuals, and I recognize the importance of affirmative action programs in addressing systemic inequalities.

I am committed to learning from this mistake and being more mindful of my language in the future. I genuinely apologize for any hurt I may have caused, and I am determined to do better moving forward.

I mean even if it’s not a real account, it’s not like accounts we know to be authentic haven’t essentially said the same thing, as Mary previously documented with the following examples:

And then there was Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who though black apparently believes black people can’t get ahead without affirmative action (bolded emphasis added by me):

I suppose Clarence Thomas is happy that he and his billionaire, conservative friends have finally killed the ability to use race as one factor in determining entrance to our colleges and universities. I suppose Clarence Thomas and his privileged, billionaire friends, who own a Supreme Court Justice, can lean back and gloat, while they are resting on their private airplanes and fine vacation sites. Clarence Thomas has just struck a blow against children of color being able to get educated, take positions of power, and eradicate discrimination and racism that denies full equality and opportunity.

One of my favorite tweets amidst all the speculation on whether or not Marsh is a parody:

‘Nuff said.

Erica Marsh let the cat out of the bag. Not progressive or parody. Just Democrat Plantation talk.

Democrats see blacks as their Pet Negroes, needing care and feeding and housing. All done at the taxpayer’s expense of course.

It’s literal (dictionary definition) racism but not malevolent, so ought to get a pass.

No black is too strong but it does come out few blacks. Harvard would have 0.76% blacks on merit. That’s not none but it’s not 13%.

It might even be a positive that the left is allowed to believe the truth, namely because efforts ought to go into promoting good character. After that, academics ought to improve as well, as far as they’re going to.

Good character is the key to success. It has the advantage that you’re not pretending to yourself or others.

Those numbers mean that for every competent black enrolled that there are 15 incompetents admitted. 30 ears ago, my experience was that 8-9 out of 10 Affirmative hires were not competent. Does this mean that percentage of meritless Affirmative job seekers has doubled today? Think about impact of this across all of our society.

” No Black person will be able to succeed in a merit-based system which is exactly why affirmative-action based programs were needed.”

15% of American blacks have an IQ of 100 and up. They most certainly can make the grade if they want to do so, assuming cultural issues do not make them perform below their intellectual capacity. Those between 90 and 99 IQ should still be able perform well in less demanding jobs.

Now I am guessing because there would a fair amount of work to gather the data, so lets say 25% of blacks are capable of succeeding on merit, assuming they are motivated and do not fail over culture.

Glenn Loury and John McWhorter, are blacks in fact dumber? Blacks have something to prove and they keep getting a pass on it.

Can’t Harvard and UNC discriminate all they want if they give up that sweet, sweet federal money?

Please do this. I wanna see fed funds free Harvard sued for discrimination as a public accommodation.

Gotta give up federal student loans, Pell grants, GI Bill, all their research grants and contracts to consult with fed govt agencies among other things. IMO, no way they pull that trigger, it would lessen their ability to influence govt policymakers. Plus they would be engaged in active discrimination on racial grounds in the open and in defiance of the ruling. That last point is a major reason for the anger, the d/prog got publicly called out by SCOTUS on their racist BS agenda. Everyone knew it before but since the judiciary was letting it slide it was a mulligan but no longer.

They lack the courage of thei confusions, it seems. But, we knew that.

It’s worse than that. Your students can’t get Medicare, Medicaid, EBT, anything. You want the whole list, check out the admissions section of Hillsdale College’s website. When it comes to government-entanglement-free environments, they run the exemplar clean-room.

Both progressive and parody. Supporters of Plessy v. Ferguson under another guise, to the extent they even believe in equality.

I initially assumed (and wrote) that this must be a parody account, but then I found her prior Tweets. She is really that hateful.

It’s VERY fortunate for Erica that Dem bigots like her, can’t be called bigots by their fellow socialists.

The emotive reaction of white leftists when faced with any perceived setback or obstacle is like a Pavlovian response. They can’t help themselves from blurting out their true beliefs which are normally reserved for projection onto those who disagree with them.

Embrace the healing power of AND.

“I want to emphasize that my statement in no way suggests that Black individuals are less intelligent than people of other races.”

While I do not like highlighting these things, as a group, black people are less intelligent than white people as a group. Are there extremely intelligent black people? Most certainly. But when you compile the statistics, which have been compiled for over one hundred years, with over one hundred million people taking the military ASVAB test, which is essentially an IQ test, the results are clear.

The average white IQ is 100. The average black IQ is 85. This is a significant difference and goes a long way to explaining the different life outcomes of the races.

I truly wish this was not the case. I wish that blacks were completely equivalent to whites, as a group. But my wishes are not reality. The reality is what it is, whether I, you, or anybody else likes it.

It is important to recognize reality.

“Research also suggests that black-white differences in parenting practices contribute to the test score gap. Improving parenting skills may therefore be as important as improving schools. The puzzle is how to proceed. Like teachers, parents are usually suspicious of unsolicited advice about how to deal with their children. But once parents become convinced that a particular practice really helps their children, many adopt it. As a practical political matter, whites cannot tell black parents to change their parenting practices without provoking charges of ethnocentrism, racism, and much else.”
….
“Stigler asked American, Japanese, and Taiwanese parents and teachers why some children did better than others in school, the Americans were more likely to emphasize ability whereas the Japanese and Taiwanese were more likely to emphasize effort. This difference does not seem to reflect a difference in fundamental beliefs about causation. Children all over the world recognize that both ability and effort affect achievement, and the same is probably true for their parents as well. But attributing failure to inadequate effort implies that if you work harder, you will learn more. Attributing it to ability serves as an excuse for doing nothing.”

When you are told you are only a victim and oppressed this is the rhetoric that ensues

Looks like Erica Marsh drew a Twitter suspension for her racism. Being a major free speech guy, I can’t say I support that, but I couldn’t help but laugh in spite of myself.
