Politico Lays Groundwork for CA Governor Gavin Newsom to Step into 2024 Race if Needed

As we get closer to the 2024 election, people on both sides are speculating about whether Joe Biden will actually run or step out of the race at some point.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has not been shy about putting himself out there as an alternate candidate, and Politico wants to make sure the runway is set up for him, should he need to land.
Could they be any more obvious?

Who’s in Gavin Newsom’s orbit?
California’s Democratic governor — who’s become an increasingly active surrogate for President Joe Biden as 2024 approaches — is an inveterate texter who will tap out messages to a wide array of business executives, lawmakers and policy experts in Sacramento and beyond. But Newsom still relies on a core group of advisers — many of them San Francisco political veterans who have been with him since his days as a businessman-turned-mayor.
Those counselors have helped guide Newsom’s rise over the past two decades as force in California politics — including his triumph over a recall effort in 2021 and his more recent emergence as a national Democratic figure. They’ll likely be there should he launch a presidential run in the coming years.
The idea of Biden dropping out has become so mainstream that this opinion piece by Douglas MacKinnon at The Hill was one of the top stories at Real Clear Politics two days ago:
When is the optimal time for Biden to drop out of the race?
Like a magician setting up a trick in one hand while distracting the audience with the other, the Biden White House and its allies are desperately trying to distract the attention of the American people from President Biden’s age, his obvious frailty and his increasing verbal and mental gaffes.
It has now gotten to the point where I have had a number of Democrats — including staunch supporters of the president — tell me it makes them “nervous,” “uncomfortable,” “sad” or gives them a feeling of “foreboding” anytime they watch President Biden speak in public, interact with guests or walk up or down the stairs to Air Force One…
As stated in this space in the past, I don’t believe Biden will be the Democratic nominee in 2024. Now, while the president, his White House and his allies may predictably denounce such speculation as ridiculous or wishful thinking, what if I and others turn out to be correct?
That possibility raises a critically important question: When would be the optimal time for President Biden to announce he’s dropping out of the race to give the Democratic Party the best chance to retain the White House?
Meanwhile, Newsom is doing interviews on FOX News and campaigning in other states. Tell me this man isn’t running.

Most important topic about Newsom is who rides his coattails to DC. Followed closely by a visit to Nothingburger Town where the trees are green, the fences tall and the feet well-heeled.

His “star is ascending”?!? Based on what? Can Politico name ONE thing that Newsom has done in Ca that has actually improved the quality of life for Californians? There’s a reason he was recalled. He’s a worthless POS and I still think the recall election was rigged just like every other election in this commie hell hole. Thank God San Diego is still somewhat of a sanctuary despite veering left over the last couple of decades.
With Newsome at the top of the ticket I would just run ad after ad showing what California is like. Imagine the ads showing homeless encampments with the tagline ” this is what Newsome will bring to your state” being shown over and over.
In modern parlance, “star is ascending” means survived a recall election by chicanery, deceit, and lots of ballots suddenly “found” in someone’s garage.
There was his dinner at French Laundry, and the closure of California’s beaches during 2020.
Their best choice is the worst governor in the country. Figures
This all boils down to one thing: cheating the 2024 election.
Problem for the Democrats is that nobody is going to believe Biden will get more votes than Trump in 2024. Trump will inundate the steal with at least 80 million votes; there is no way to harvest that many ballots for Biden or for anyone to believe that.
This is why Newsome is in the on-deck circle. He can “get more votes” than Trump and it will be in the realm of possibility (i.e., Democrats relieved not to have Biden on the ballot).
As long as the steal remains within the bounds of possibility, Democrats are not going to care who the non-Biden candidate is (except for Harris).
If the Rs nominate Trump, the Ds won’t have to cheat. Newsom would beat Trump in a landslide that would rival Nixon-McGovern.
Then our country is sunk. By us.
Look at the exodus from blue states, notably Commiefornia, and tell me with a straight face that any sane person would vote for Governor HairGel.
Then again, there are a lot of crazies running loose these days.
The exodus is overstated.
I don’t think Biden will step aside. The Ukraine War is probably the biggest threat to his presidency, and could make him unelectable if it goes to nuclear war. He could have an actuarial event, but no way he whiffs on running. And if Biden dies, Newsom will challenge KH.
The media and Newsom’s campaign would have to go full Orwell. Newsom was the most totalitarian governor during Covid and he would campaign as a defender of freedom. Frightening to ponder him as President.

Did anyone not see this coming?
If Newsom is the stand in those suburban women who vote as weather vanes are likely to swoon; dude is tall 6’3, in good shape, handsome, great head of hair, has family wealth, charismatic to a certain type. The contrast with Biden or Trump based on age alone is pretty wide though Trump has far more vitality/vigor than Biden.
Put Newsom at the top of the ticket and those sorts of women can tell themselves they don’t have to vote for Biden again, for the segment that actually regret their’20 vote, but can still vote d/prog for the good looking Gov of CA.
There’s a reason why women didn’t have suffrage until the “progressive” era at the turn of the 2oth century.
Newsome can beat Trump in the battleground states. Abortion and women’s rights (his wife was a Weinstein victim) are winning issues for Dem’s in these states.
Trump will get his 65% of the R party, but not too many others — he is a known, spoiled commodity.
Handsome? Good looking? Have you asked any women about that? Other than Karen-esque cat ladies?
Are you arguing that Newsom isn’t conventionally attractive based upon normal societal objective metrics like height, hair, facial symmetry, fitness level, Bank account, level of social status?
He ain’t a supermodel but the dude ticks those boxes enough to objectively be a 7+ on a 10 point scale v all men and higher for his age cohort; he is 55 years old. Most women seem to prefer a taller man to a shorter man if given the choice. Only about 14% of US men are 6’0 or taller, Newsom is 6’3 which puts in the top half of one percent in that metric.
I don’t think his appeal is limited to 40+ single, childless, bitter cat ladies who are resentful that their looks have faded from their zenith and men now pay them less attention than when they were younger and more sexually desirable.
Utterly kills me to say it given how thoroughly I despise Newsome, but if the Rs nominate Trump then Newsome is going to kick his ass from sea to shining sea. Conservatives are making a gigantic “unforced error” to be sticking with Trump. Regardless of what anyone thought of him in ’16 or ’20, that guy will be utter poison in ’24.

If that happens, the Rs will have no one to blame but themselves. The Ds are in terrible shape and should be easy to beat, but it’s looking like the Rs are even worse off, which would be very hard to even imagine if it weren’t so obviously true.
They seem to be recycling the rising star PR campaign they wrapped around Tulsi Gabbard, that is until she declined to play ball.
They seem to have chosen better this time.
