“This Hunter Biden deal is to put to rest a major problem for the Biden family”

My appearance on the Wilkow! Show: “what I think has people very upset is not so much that Hunter Biden’s getting the wrong deal from the government, it’s just that that is not a deal that would’ve been available to any of the political opponents of the Biden administration.”

I appeared today on The Wilkow! Shot on Salem networks to discuss the breaking news of the Hunter Biden plea deal. Here’s an excerpt of my hot take:

(partial transript, auto generated, may contain transcription errors)

Andrew Wilkow (00:10):

I kind of defined this Hunter Biden plea agreement as a slap on the wrist without the slap.

WAJ (00:17):

<laugh>. Well, I think that’s right. He essentially gets away with everything. He gets away with things that might have sent somebody else to prison, might have resulted in felony prosecutions as opposed to felonies being downgraded to misdemeanors and diversion. I think the easiest test here is, if his name were Hunter Trump, how would he be treated? And it would be very different than he was treated. And that’s really what I think has people very upset is not so much that Hunter Biden’s getting the wrong deal from the government, it’s just that that is not a deal that would’ve been available to any of the political opponents of the Biden administration.

Wilkow (00:57):

But what if your name was Kodak Black or Wesley Snipes? I mean, Wesley Snipes pulled three years in prison for exactly what Hunter Biden is charged with. Kodak Black had to be commuted by Donald Trump for lying on his, on his firearms form as well. Illegal weapons possession, I mean, illegal weapons possession is serious. Lying on that federal form is serious stuff

WAJ (01:19):

That is, and that’s more outrageous here than really the tax offense because many people have gone to jail for failure to pay taxes or willful failure to pay taxes, usually at a much larger scale. But it’s that lying on the federal form for an administration that wants to crack down on otherwise lawful gun owners that wants to turn lawful gun owners into felons by changing what sort of firearms are acceptable or lawful. So it’s particularly bad because those are the sort of offenses the federal government goes after very seriously. And it could have been  charged with many additional offenses, conspiracy to defraud the government, lying to the government, perjury. If they wanted to, they could have loaded up a boatload of charges against him. Instead, they are essentially saying, well, we’re going to let it go that you lied on your firearms form.

***

WAJ (03:24):

This Hunter Biden deal is to put to rest a major problem for the Biden family. And whether the government does anything more, whether all of these tapes are ever released, whether all of the evidence is ever released remains to be seen about the Biden family potential corruption. But that it certainly does seem like this is a sweeping under the rug of the Biden family problems. Because Hunter Biden, it’s not just his problem, it’s his family problem. He was one of the middlemen through which money was funneled to other family members. So there is a very deep Biden family problem here, and the government has shown no indication that it’s going go after them with a fraction of the ferocity that various levels of government are going after, not just Donald Trump, but his family, his businesses and other things. And that’s what’s really upsetting here to look at this situation.

WAJ (04:49):

Because when they wanna slow walk things they do…. [W]hat would they do if they released to the public information showing that Joe Biden was part of a criminal conspiracy? In fact, he might have been the big guy in the conspiracy. So I think the government is trying, the federal government, the law enforcement is slow walking things related to the Biden family because it creates a lot of political and legal problems for them if they go forward with it.

Hey, we serfs need to have lords and masters.

fscarn in reply to Oracle. | June 21, 2023 at 10:37 am

Well, we have that. Many of those lords and masters are members of the Council on Foreign Relations whose principal club house is in NYC though they have another one in DC which makes it easy for the sizable number of CFR members to serve in both R and D administrations.

guyjones in reply to Oracle. | June 21, 2023 at 11:58 am

The “lords and masters” being the vile, lawless and totalitarian Dumb-o-crat apparatchiks.

IMO the Biden WH and DoJ have just engineered a shift in the 2A debate due to the lenient treatment here with Hunter Biden. We know that US.Attorneys have not been very aggressive, to put it mildly, in going after prosecution for federal firearms violations in an effort to lock up criminals which local DA refuse to. Now everyone can see just how unserious the Biden WH, the DoJ and anti gun types are about using the laws on the books to lock up criminals. If they wanted an example to get folks attention they had the opportunity in front of them and cut an extremely lenient plea deal instead.

This also provides another example for folks who are called to Federal Jury service to weigh in their minds as they consider the govt case with similar crimes but with defendants not named Biden. Should folks nullify from day one? No, they should weigh the evidence in front of them. That said, people are human and as the examples of a two tiered system pile up the willingness on the part of ordinary jurors to convict other ordinary folks for similar crimes may well decrease as a direct result of this travesty. People outside blue enclaves are getting riled up and jury nullification is one of many nonviolent ways to push back a little bit at what many see as injustice.

IMO the Biden WH and DoJ have just engineered a shift in the 2A debate due to the lenient treatment here with Hunter Biden.

Sorry, but that’s not how this stuff works.

Remember when the left had the riots in 2020 and tried to burn down the nation. People consoled themselves, saying, “Well, at least they can’t impose any more of these crazy COVID dictats on us now that they have let their foot soldiers run wild in packs on the street.”

But that isn’t what worked out. The left didn’t care. They let their shock troops gather in large crowds and loot and burn everything … but they just imposed even more restrictions on the rest of us .. without batting an eyelash. For years afterwards, they didn’t let up on the COVID insanitya nd just made pretend that the 2020 riots never even happened.

Don’t look at the treatment of the crackhead criminal and think that has any bearing on how they will treat us. There is no law, anymore. Just the whims of the criminal retards of the left. That’s it.

I didn’t argue that this will be an epiphany for the lefty anti gun groups which changes their stance. I argue that it is a shift in the 2A debate.

Why?/How? Easy, this is a very high profile case. There is an easily proven case for violations of just the sort of ‘common sense’ laws the anti gunners yammer on about. First the violations on the forms, second the girlfriend helping Hunter and at his direction dispose of a firearm into a dumpster, third video evidence of firearm possession while Hunter distributed drugs to his hooker.

When the DoJ won’t prosecute two of those and hands out a lenient diversion pleas deal for the other while the anti gun groups remain silent then that is ammunition for our side. It demonstrates in full public view that they ain’t serious about enforcement of these laws they keep lobbying for. If the anti gun groups were serious they would be on every TV hit, media interview, podcast and editorial page demanding Hunter be made an example of.

Azathoth in reply to CommoChief. | June 21, 2023 at 12:27 pm

        There is no shift.

They’ve never been serious about gun control.

Their policy is that they, and their people should have guns. Their useless idiots should scream about anyone but authority having guns and their opponents should be disarmed and severely prosecuted if caught with arms.

That is the position they’ve held since medieval times.

CommoChief in reply to Azathoth. | June 21, 2023 at 5:21 pm

The shift in the DEBATE about 2A is as follows:
Gun Grabbers – we just want common sense gun laws….
2A Community – like the basic common sense gun laws Hunter Biden broke?

Gun Grabbers – He was prosecuted….
2A – he was given a lenient diversion plea deal that average folks named Tyrone, Jose or Billy Bob don’t ever receive. If that’s your idea of prosecution are you in favor of reducing penalties to diversion programs?

Gun Grabbers – Common sense laws will…
2A – nope, first you need to address why your group wasn’t denouncing the Biden DoJ for this sweetheart deal to the President’s son

And repeat ad infinitum. Every time the gun grabbers utter the phrase common sense gun laws we respond with questions about Hunter Biden. In particular ask why they didn’t:
          1. Denounce the Biden DoJ for this
          2. Wage a national marketing campaign against the this deal which ignores enforcement of the sort of basic common sense gun laws they claim to favor
          3. Was it due to political considerations, that b/c Biden is a d/prog gun grabber you didn’t want to point out or publicly protest this violation of common sense gun law enforcement?

As to gun grabbers being sincere, they ain’t sincere and it isn’t news to me or anyone with an interest in 2A issues. Though some people who don’t pay attention might be persuaded if we make this case.

We won’t know unless we try and as Gretsky wisely told us ‘you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’. Don’t be too scared, too timid, too depressed or too discouraged to take the shot. It’s one they handed us. Use it.

Well that didn’t take long. 🙂

I think that is is -possible- that this effect was the point of the charges and plea deal.

CommoChief in reply to BoboPhat. | June 21, 2023 at 5:28 pm

Plenty of folks are paying attention to this. Everyone who has a friend or family member named up by the IRS and hit with stupendous fines, penalties or even jail. Everyone who has a friend or family member named up over a basic gun violation with a 5 year sentence enhancement or a paperwork problem.

Social media, new media is carrying this discussion into corners of the internet and to folks who aren’t usually interested in following politics. Folks can see this deal was for nothing like what their friend or family member was offered and can easily understand nepotism and a two tiered system.

I am not sure “this Hunter Biden deal [will] … put to rest a major problem for the Biden family.” IMO all Democrats, many Independents and some Republicans do not have much sympathy for Trump. But, how many Blacks know someone who did time for that kind of gun issue, or Wesley Snipes on the tax charge. The bias will not sit well with many people. Also, if any of those 17 “bribery” tapes go public, giving Hunter a pass may become a big problem.

Wesley Snipes definitely should be PO.

    randian in reply to jb4. | June 21, 2023 at 9:25 pm

Won’t matter, Blacks will vote Democrat no matter how much the Democrats abuse them. How about that high Black unemployment rate and Black wages? Surely importing 30 million illegal Mexicans to compete for jobs might have had some effect on that? Crickets from Blacks though.

Hominem Humilem in reply to jb4. | June 22, 2023 at 4:21 pm

Sadly, a tragic fire or regrettable technical problem (resulting in corruption of the data) will occur just before the tapes can be made public. Just as occurred during the attempt to examine Hillary Clinton’s use of her email and the Lois Lerner IRS scandal. It’s amazing how often the government encounters problems with its tech when it could be used to prove Democrat malfeasance…

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | June 20, 2023 at 10:50 pm

This DOJ (and the whole Executive branch) has absolutely no legitimacy, at all. NONE. They are criminals who all should be behind bars, save the traitors who deserve capital punishment (and there are many of them). There is nothing remotely “legal” about the workings of this DOJ.

These are the darkest days America has ever seen. Ever. Most of the nation doesn’t really realize where we are. They have a weird feeling but they don’t grasp the enormity of this situation. Neither do most people whose normal job is to cover politics.

This is not politics. There are no politics left in this nation. There are just criminals – the worst sort possible – and victims.

Subotai Bahadur | June 20, 2023 at 10:56 pm

The Hunter Biden wrist slap is not what puts to rest the major problem for the Biden regime. What puts it to rest is the absolutely normal TOTAL lack of reaction by what is supposed to be, if not an opposition party, at least something that is functionally different in some way. In such a case, how do you stand for any self-evident truths?

Subotai Bahadur

Assuming he filed the tax returns in a state with state income taxes, does he have any significant exposure for filing improper state tax returns and unpaid state taxes?

    diver64 in reply to buck61. | June 21, 2023 at 3:16 am

Most likely but where is his domicile? Delaware? We just saw what a Federal Prosecutor in Delaware did, do you think the state will be any different?

    randian in reply to buck61. | June 21, 2023 at 9:27 pm

Even if he does have state tax exposure, what state AG is going to prosecute him? Anything less than armed robbery, aggravated battery, or murder he skates on.

The Deep State always has had power over the Biden Crime Family having the knowledge what they have done.

Ive several thoughts on this whole Hunter issue.

One. This prosecution isnt for us. It is for law and order. It isnt for proving that everyone is subject to the law equally. No, this prosecution is for the party faithful to show them that “justice” is done and is blind so that the party faithful can maintain the faith that Trump got done just like Hunter got done.

Two. These people truly detest us mere mortals who aren’t part of the party faithful. They dont give a fuck about you at all. All they care about is control and power and keeping both in their grubby little hands.

Three. If the intellectual pigmys on the left cared about appearances Hunter would have done time. He would have been sacrificed for the sake of appearances. But they dont give a fuck about anything other than retaining control and power.

This whole saga is totally fucked up! Hunter SHOULD have been treated like any other crack head breaking firearm laws and committing tax evasion…and that money he committed tax evasion should have been investigated like it would have it Hunter was a little person!

But of course we know that was never going to happen because if someone did “follow the money” it would have led to the Big Guy ™ and bigger problems for Democrats.

Finally…whats happening today is exactly why a free and fair press is critical to democracy. The fact these c8nts are all in the tank for Biden means literally no one is out there shining a light on Democrats and their dodgy as fuck business deals…so Democrats go unpunished. The rule of law is discarded. People are treated unequally!

Burn it all to the ground. The system is no longer capable, or worthy, of being saved.

walls in reply to mailman. | June 21, 2023 at 8:33 am

Merrick Garland and his “Dept. of Just-Us” smell worse than two-week old smegma. It’s a fucking joke. The system needs to be burnt down, blown up – fuck them all. As Kari Lake said “81 million votes my ass”.

This bit of DoJ slight of hand is meant to blunt some of the Trump defense as well as pre influence the jury pool with a ‘now things are even’ narrative. I believe this will most likely make it easier for the jury to convict on at least one count. Mission accomplished.

Steven Brizel | June 21, 2023 at 8:30 am

This plea was designed to deflect any attention away from and further stonewall any investigation into the multimillion dollar bribes received by Mr Big from the Ukraine and China which were laundered through LLCs for various family members

smalltownoklahoman | June 21, 2023 at 8:59 am

The Hunter Biden deal is just blatantly shoving their hypocrisy in our faces while saying the rules don’t matter to them. It’s also another way they are trying to break our society by deliberately infuriating those who actually care that the rule of law be applied fairly to all.

This is not over by a longshot.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Comer is operating as a defacto special counsel.

He has banking experience.

He will publish a report (with criminal referrals) showing the at least $10 Million Dollars in dodgy payments to the Biden’s. Comer recently said he may soon have bank records showing the payments to the Biden’s were even higher ($20-30 Million).

I am currently reading a book about Germany in the 1930’s (Erik Larson’s “In the Garden of Beasts”.) There are some similarities to today’s USA. Of course, I am only up to 1934 in the book. Many pages to go.

You shouldn’t be comparing Hunter to Trump. You should be comparing
Hunter to every random schmo who would 100% get the book thrown at them
for similar things.

.. I bet that felony gun charge being reduce to a diversion program will go down real well “in the hood” where a 2 to 3 year prison sentence is the rule of the day

My take on this joke of justice: This little “prosecution” was all that was needed to attach jeopardy. Now on these serious felonies he cannot be touched. This was a slick move to undercut any chance of a real investigation and prosecution of the Biden cartel.

Now, if conservatives can ever get another shot at Hunter on any other new charges, the defense will be that the new charges are a retribution for this sweetheart deal.

    retiredcantbefired in reply to Wise_Jedi. | June 21, 2023 at 3:49 pm

Maybe that will be the defense, but how can jeopardy attach to such matters as bribery, money laundering, not registering under FARA, etc.? They have not been charged.

How long until Biden issues that Presidential Pardon?

News today of Hunter finally settling his paternity case for the daughter he had.

“Today, I settled all family business”,

I’ve been surprised all along that Joe’s handlers hadn’t forced Hunter to settle this case long ago. It resulted in discovery into Hunter’s finances, which could get Joe impeached and (if we were still a nation of laws) indicted in federal court.

BierceAmbrose | June 22, 2023 at 3:30 pm

One wonders if he’ll get similar special treatment on the rest of the charges coming. That is if any more of the obvious charges will be incoming.

I do wonder about The Screaming D’s tactical acumen. Sure, ding The First Vacuum for something, plead it down, and so on. BUT, cover like that doesn’t stick. With the speed of the news cycle, ubiquitous info, and some relentless hecklers for the LuLz, this cover doesn’t hold.

It’s like they’re operating as if what everybody knows is what Dan Rather tells them, in a world with a few thousand Voltaire’s running amok. (Or H. L. Menckens. Or, hell, some Alfred E. Neumans, not limited to fringe magazine covers is good enough to screw up this tactic.)
