Texas Sends Bus Carrying Over 40 Illegal Immigrants to Los Angeles

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott noted that Los Angeles is a “self-declared sanctuary city.” California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom says he will make the immigrants ‘safe and welcomed‘. So, why are activists angered?

How it started: On October 5, 2017, Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill, SB 54, that makes California a “sanctuary state.” Los Angeles followed in 2019, declaring itself a “city of sanctuary.”

How it’s going:

The first busloads of migrants arrived in Los Angeles from Texas Wednesday in what Mayor Karen Bass called a “despicable stunt” by Lone Star State Gov. Greg Abbott.

About 40 migrants that appeared to be families from Latin America and Haiti were seen getting off two buses as they headed to St. Anthony’s Croatian Church, Fox 11 reported.

Abbott, in a statement, insisted Texas officials were sending migrants where they want to go, noting Los Angeles is a “self-declared sanctuary city.”

Jorge-Mario Cabrera, director of communications for immigrant rights group CHIRLA, is all worked-up about the move by Abbott.

The migrants made a stop at Union Station before being taken to a welcoming center at a nearby church.

Cabrera was at Union Station when the group arrived. He said CHIRLA, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights-Los Angeles, had been tipped off Tuesday night about the migrants’ pending arrival. He said the travelers originated from Venezuela, Guatemala and Honduras, with two of African descent.

One of the Guatemalan migrants has a court date scheduled in New York, he added.

“That’s where the cruelty of this process is unbounded,” he said. “That’s why Los Angeles made sure that we were coordinated and prepared to deal with the human beings behind this political charade.”

Why are the mayor and the area’s immigration activists angered, as Los Angles had declared itself to be a sanctuary city?  In contrast, California’s Governor says he will make the immigrants ‘safe and welcomed.

…California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state “is in close communication with the County and City of Los Angeles, and our community partners. Together, we will make sure that the children and families who arrived are safe and welcomed.”

I suspect the dream of America these immigrants had and the realities they experience will be quite different.

There are, by the latest count, more than 11,000 people living in RVs across Los Angeles County. And that number has been rising. The Covid-19 pandemic forced more people into poverty. Some of the RV dwellers have jobs but either don’t want to pay apartment rent, or can’t afford to pay it, in a city where the average one-bedroom apartment costs around $2,500 a month.

A huge homeless camp will be cleared after neighbors sued. What happens to its vulnerable residents is an open question

Some RV dwellers own the vehicles, but others rent them to the monthly tune of a few hundred dollars to more than $1,000, city Councilwoman Traci Park told CNN.

In Los Angeles, you are allowed to sleep in a vehicle on some streets. There are, of course, parking restrictions on many streets. But as the number of RVs has grown, enforcing those restrictions has become harder. Large, immobile RVs require large tow trucks. And, according to the city, destroying a dilapidated RV that might contain harmful chemicals can cost up to $9,000 per vehicle.

While Los Angeles immigration activists are having an attack of the vapors and clutching their pearls, many Americans across the country support Texas forcing Los Angeles to live up to its moralistic proclamations.

I hope that the Los Angeles officials and Newsom are planning for more immigrants. I have a feeling more will be coming.

LA immigration activists should be praising the TX Gov, and framing his photo to hang on the walls of their homes and offices. Why don’t they see this as a win-win?

The lefty’s virtue signaling is not supposed to be acted upon instead it’s a commitment to an amorphous, theoretical agreement or alignment with a particular policy position in the abstract. This is part of the reason these lefty ideologues are so PO about Abbott and DeSantis sending illegal aliens to Sanctuary jurisdictions.

The lefties don’t want to pay the direct or indirect costs of their virtuous ideals, they just want to feel superior to everyone who complains about the costs imposed upon them. Now the bill is coming due in the heart of blue enclaves instead of solely in overwhelmed border communities. The lefties are PO that they will finally have to pick up the tab instead of outsourcing the costs to border communities. The only other option is to do what Martha’s Vineyard did and what NYC and Chicago tried to do; ship these illegal aliens to another jurisdiction which simply reveals their hypocrisy for all to see.

Find some of the homes and neighborhoods where we saw all the signs that read: hate does not live here, no human is illegal, immigrants rights etc. Drop off some of the bussed illegals there.

What was an illegal doing in Texas if they had a court date in New York? Perhaps they should have stayed in New York or, best of all, returned to their home and never invaded the US again.

When they cross the border and make their claim for asylum they give a location they will be traveling to in order to link up with their ‘sponsor’ really just a POC if even that. They then assign them a contact date in whatever location they say this particular illegal alien probably told them NY when processed. Then most of them are just dumped off into El Paso or whatever location they crossed.

Amazing how the vile Dumb-o-crats’ shallow, self-congratulatory and narcissistic virtue-signaling antics and rhetoric — as flimsy and cheap as their beloved, $15 yard signs emblazoned with the latest sanctimonious, Dumb-o-crat platitudes — turn into selfish and hypocritical NIMBYism, the minute that the Dumbs are forced to bear and confront the deleterious consequences and costs of their destructive and foolish policies.

“…from Latin America and Haiti were seen…”

I grow so weary of this incessant ‘own the libs’ cuckservatism.

Ship them all back to where they came from! Good grief.

As desirable as that may be, the Leftist Federal government will let them right back in without let, leave, or hindrance. Sending them to enemy territory will impose a cost specifically on the Leftists who dictate Federal policy. I would just as soon see several times this number of foreign invaders, since they are going to invade anyway with Leftist help, arrive in LA, SF, Portland, Chicago, Milwaukee, New York City, Boston, etc. several times a day.

Every single illigal alien should be sent immediately to a Democrat sanctuary state without delay.

Let them reap the benefits of illegal immigration at their own expense.

So, LA is a SCINO (sanctuary city in name only).

40 out of 14 million

Way to go Rino express!!!!

The mere 40 is causing a large amount of upset and drawing more public attention to the border crisis and the hypocrisy of the blue enclaves which style themselves as a ‘sanctuary jurisdiction’. Lots of ink being spilled.

Given that the Feds are responsible for border security as well as enforcement of US immigration laws, which under the Biden admin they refuse to do, what exactly do you propose? Should Abbott send the Texas Rangers to overwhelm the federal CPB officers at the bridge of the Americas in El Paso? Take them prisoner and fortify the bridge, refusing all crossings or attempts by the Federal govt to retake the bridge?

There’s plenty of court precedent here, which FWIW I disagree with, that says the Feds have full control over both immigration and naturalization despite the Constitution only granting the Feds power over naturalization. Perhaps Abbott could set up State run checkpoint/commercial vehicle inspections to harass legitimate commercial traffic from Mexico. He did it before. There’s simply not much in the way of legal options for Abbott to do more than he is. If you want him to do something else then please explain in detail what that is, step by step and the legal justification, even if only a fig leaf, for him doing so. Give a rough timeline, # of personnel required and a rough cost estimate for both direct and indirect costs. Close the border is a slogan not a plan.

Well, I thought of one way to defray the cost, but I don’t want to give California any ideas.

Abbott should scale up the busing by at least ten times. The cost of a bus ride to TX is tiny versus the cost of them staying in TX.

Since April of ’22 he’s sent well over 10K illegal aliens to DC, Chicago, NYC and now sending some to LA.

Agreed about the cost. Keep in mind TX is a weak Gov State by design, compared to most other States the Gov of TX doesn’t have much power.

It’s a start. Admittedly, these flights and bus rides should have been undertaken decades ago, but, better late than never. At any rate, the hypocritical angst and outrage that these illegal alien arrivals provoke in the vile Dumb-o-crats, with their hollow posturing and holier-than-thou sanctimony, make a valuable political point.

40 is a p hole in the snow. At 1.2M crossers a year, California’s share is more like 100K. Moar buses.

Leftists are always about “helping people” with someone else’s money or home…. Never theirs.

Between the lunatics running Los Angeles and that corrupt clown Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles’ future is akin to San Francisco’s.

Keep them in LA. Don’t send them to AL. We have enough already.

Reminds me of “The Swimmer” Kennedy who was all in on offshore windmills then worked tirelessly behind closed doors making sure none could be seen from his compound in MA.
