Bragg Tries Backpedaling, Tells House GOP That Trump ‘Created a False Expectation That He Would be Arrested’
Bragg sounds frustrated. Maybe it’s because his grand jury hasn’t cooperated with him as he hoped.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has a lot of egg on his face.
House GOP members demanded Bragg give them answers about probing into President Donald Trump’s alleged hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Bragg responded as one would with his back to the wall because, as we have seen, the grand jury is not cooperating with him. He’s backpedaling and trying to cast the light off of him. It also sounds like he’s trying to plan a way to blame Republicans if he should drop the case or the grand jury doesn’t indict Trump.
“Your letter dated march 20, 2023, (the ‘Letter’), in contrast, is an unprecedented inquiry into a pending local prosecution,” wrote Bragg’s office. “The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene. Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”
Bragg’s office claims the investigation, which started before Bragg took office in January 2022, has been consistent with his “oath to faithfully execute the laws of the State of New York.”
The office also told the members that Bragg would “publicly state the conclusion of our investigation- whether we conclude our work without bringing charges, or move forward with an indictment.”
“And if charges are brought at the conclusion, it will be because the rule of law and faithful execution of the District Attorney’s duty require it.”
Bragg originally suspended the investigation when he took office.
Bragg changed his mind when trump announced his candidacy for 2024l.

He is hearing the furious and intense protests by Democrats and NeverTrumpers. Bragg tried to get Trump to agree to being processed quietly in some obscure location and Trump, completely understanding that they are turning him into a Christ figure, said “NO! Let’s do this out in the open. Go ahead. Cuff me and frog march me into your HQ!”
This is so backfiring that yesterday, Sen. Cornyn called for the House to end its investigations into the Trump persecutions. Trump once again forces the issue with bold action and masks continue to drop. Trump, McCarthy and the Trump Squad in the House is establishing the their base for taking on the Uniparty Swamp. And the polls show that it is working in spades.
Cornyn , I’m in Texas and I detest him. Dear lord had to vote for him cause of Beto
But I detest him
What did Beto have to do with it?
I didn’t vote for him 2020
Cause I detest him
I know Beto ran against Cruz but felt Republicans were in trouble in Texas because of his almost winning
I will never vote for Cornyn again
Cruz won by 200K votes. That isn’t very close – and the only reason he didn’t win by more is because it appears that a lot of Trump fans voted for Beto (and Abbott, who outperformed Cruz by about 200K).
As far as voting for Cornyn, given that he’s moved even farther left, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be running again, although it’s still early and things could still change. In any event, I don’t think he’ll be able to run unopposed in the primaries, although I don’t know who’ll step up – maybe Chip Roy. If somebody with name recognition does step up, I think Cornyn will pass rather than risk losing.
Since I can’t comment in order to your silly response below, let me insert it here. Your comment above proves that you know so little of Texas politics that you thought Beto ran against Cornyn, “forcing” you to vote for Cornyn. All I’ve done is point out that no such event ever happened. You’ve admitted as much by your CYA comment further on in this thread. I do, however, apologize for implying that you actually did any real research to find out the facts. I should have understood that you were doing what you usually do – twist, distort and/or ignore the facts to suit your own biases.
As far as being in my head, neither you nor Trump enjoy any such honorable position although the fact is, you produce so much spam on this website, it’s impossible to avoid it.
BTW, I have nothing at all against doing a little research to make sure your facts are correct before posting a comment. I do it all the time, and still screw up.
Beto is so horrible that even Cornyn was a good choice by comparison.
Beto didn’t run against Cornyn. He ran against Cruz, as Gonzo found out after she finally looked it up.
No, Texvet, arm I just living in your head ,
Just like Trump?
I voted for a lot of Republicans because they weren’t democrats, and I was very much worried about beto initially
But as he has lost THREE elections, not so
Much anymore, but I supported cruz but not Cornyn. I voted for Cornyn previously because “republican “, now I would work against him if my efforts any any chance of doing anything.
I detest him
Have you ever called his office and talked to his staff?
You are nothing to him
Unless you have 100,000 $ grand to open the bidding.
He’s McConnell all hat and no
Who then was Cornyn running against? The Dems almost never nominate a good candidate, and even the ones who do will vote Dem on almost everything because legislation is a team sport, and the team with more players almost always wins. A terrible Republican is usually better than a relatively great Democrat. Even Romney votes right on a lot of things.
I always vote Republican for legislative positions, because numbers matter the most. Even that wacko in the House that won by obvious lying, I want him to finish his term, because he’s an R vote.
If I were in Texas I would have voted for Cornyn because he was the R nominee and the D would be worse.
In 2020 Cornyn won his most recent election, he defeated Mary Jennings Heger by almost 1.1 million votes or 53.5% to 43..9%. Cruz is up in 2024, he beat Beto by about 200k votes, 50..9 to 48.3% in 2018.
You act as if being a ‘never-Trumper’ is a bad idea. The guy is a walking shit-show and squandered his opportunities to do what he was elected to do by being a boorish pig and playing the fool almost everyday.
Move on because he’s 100% damaged goods and the Classic Liberals, such as myself, who are socially-liberal-small-government people aren’t going to vote him. And WE are the ones that swing elections, not the 35% who pull the Red or Blue lever in an unthinking manner.
Bottom line is that he’s an idiot and has proven himself to be an idiot and you’ll never get enough Classic Liberals to put him back in the White House. DeSantis, OTOH, he’d be worth backing.
Are you talking about Jeb!!! DeSantis? The guy who keeps shooting himself in the foot every time he does and interview? That guy? Jeb!!! better hope that Bragg finds an off ramp on his campaign to destroy Trump. I think the only one left is for Gov. Hochul to remove him.
I’m waiting for Bragg to petition for Florida to extradite Trump to NY. Will that weasel Jeb!!! beg off by saying he doesn’t want to get involved and send Trump to NY? Even if he hesitates to say no or takes a week to slowly process all of the facts with his brand management team and come up with a poll-tested response, he will be dead meat. DeSantis is on his way to being road kill on a road he never should have taken.
You do realize Trump cost us 2022, lost 2020 because he was too undisciplined not to shoot himself in the head while aiming for his own foot, made a blue wave 2018, and lost the popular vote in 2016 while winning because Hillary never contested Wisconsin a state where Trump won fewer votes than Mitt Romney.
Just look at how well Trump’s candidates did 2022, he is highly unpopular and loses elections.
Maybe the reason you consider it poll tested is DeSantis doesn’t alienate people because it is a day ending in Y.
Hope you enjoy the professional election loser, and hope you are proud of yourself when Biden is re-elected.
Ha, too funny. “We” lost 2020 and 2022 because “we” did not do our job and get out to vote. We did not make sure “they” did not cheat and we did not make sure the election officials follow the correct procedures. I worked as an election judge, so I did my part. BTW, I am not going to vote for DeSantis. Period. He is part of the swamp. I will vote for Kennedy before I vote for Desantis. Biden is not going to make it to 2024. I don’t think his health is there.
And don’t forget his pro+life support (vs. Biden making abortion the #1 priority of his administration)
Mean tweets cause some to have wet pants. Classic liberal? Sounds more like AOC.
That means you’re a Progressive. Period.
Oh, and NeverTrump is a bad idea. Because it means you’re 1) not very bright, and 2) as evidence of that, you can’t even consider the benefits of what he did bring to the table.
And I am not an AlwaysTrump person. But NeverTrump sold their souls for all the wrong reasons.
Show us on the dolly where OMB touched you Moses 😂😂
Then vote for someone else in the primary. I probably would too, although Alvin Bragg is making me like Trump again even after the vax and J6. The enemy of my enemy …
Still I’d prefer DeSantis, but would vote for either in the general.
Love him or hate him, during Trump’s presidency, the economy was strong, markets were up, inflation was under control, fuel prices were low, illegal border crossings were down, crime was lower, trade deals were renegotiated so the US was not disadvantaged, NATO allies were stepping up to fulfill their obligations, Russia was behaving itself for the most part, and China was stepping back, even if just a little. Deny all that if you want to, but I’d rather have the mean tweets back.
They’re not just mean now. They’re downright ugly and nasty. No grace to them .Check out what he said about Ron Desantis on Monday, suggesting he’s a gay groomer. Sorry, I can’t deal with that sort of thing anymore.
And don’t forget Trump’s pro-life support vs. Biden making abortion access a #1 priority of his administration
You, of course, can interpret it as your biases dictate, as will I. I interpreted the referenced post as an admonishment that DeSantis might be quicker to defend someone against unfounded accusations if he were the target of them. I did not see it as insinuation, implication, or accusation of anything. But again, your anti-Trump interpretation is your own.
I agree. I am backing the more levelheaded, disciplined and smarter Desantis. You won’t catch him describing a woman as having a “horse face” or implying that his opponents are gay groomers, as Trump did with DeSantis on Monday.
“you’ll never get enough Classic Liberals to put him back in the White House.”
So then, Joe or Kammy would get your vote? That’s pretty neo-classical.
I think what he means is that the middle just won’t vote for Trump. Or, as we found out in the midterms, for anyone like him or endorsed by him because they were on tv. He’s not wrong. Yes, a considerable segment of the population does prefer Joe to Trump (not sure about Kamala since Democrats hated her the first time, but against Trump? She might look good to them.).
We know this because the 2020 election was indeed so close that they had to make extremely obvious their tampering on election night. Trump should have run away with that election in a fraud-stomping landslide (I expected him to, as I said at the time–but I underestimated just how widely disliked he was), but it was close. Because he’s a complete turnoff to a very large number of voters. He was in 2020, and it’s worse now. Fair or not, that’s just the way it is.
And MosesZD’s point about the Only Trumpers voting for him and the far left always voting (D) is also correct, so those middle votes matter. Right now, for whatever reason, Trump’s decided against building his base, and is instead shrinking it. He has to replace all the people who voted for him grudgingly (or against Hillary in ’16) and who are now saying there is no way they will vote for him the general. Plus add a fraud-buffer of tens of millions of votes. And that middle is already gone. I don’t see them coming back, but we’re still two years out. A lot can change.
He is under other investigations. This two-time Trump voter is tired of his misogynistic comments about women and insinuating that DeSantis is a gay groomer. He cannot win a general election. Will vote for DeSantis.
This whole Trump persecution theater is playing out like one would expect–a complete 💩 show for the Democrats. And Bragg is as dumb as a bag of rocks.
” Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested”
says the guy who ran on a platform of arresting and prosecuting Donald Trump for something, anything
Knee jerk leftist projection. As usual.
Tactical retreat… oh and:
“[T]he District Attorney is obliged by the federal and state constitutions to protect the independence of state law enforcement functions from federal interference,” he added.”
That would be news to many cities and counties that had the DOJ/FBI investigate and punish local law enforcement agencies for “civil rights” violations. What they had planned for Trump and what they are doing with political J6 prisoners is a civil rights if not human rights violations.
The Hidden Junta is still in power. It is jealous of its power and its “precious democracy”.
He meant that because of Trump’s effective actions,
“Donald Trump ruined our expectation that he would be arrested”
I thought DJT was most immediately responding to a NYT article. He’s not the one who made up, or publicized the leak, in the first place.
Yes, he is. There was no leak. There was no report. He pulled it out of his rear end.
Of course he did. Donald Trump was fed a line and a set-up which he took hook, line, and sinker. But that’s to be expected of such an arrogant, narcissistic, ego driven idiot like Trump. He simply doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.
NBC News and CNN show otherwise:
March 17, 2023, 10:27 AM PDT
By Jonathan Dienst
Local, state and federal law enforcement and security agencies are preparing for the possibility that former President Donald Trump will be indicted as early as next week, according to five senior officials familiar with the preparations.
City, state and federal law enforcement agencies meet about how to prep for possible Trump indictment
By John Miller, CNN
Published 7:42 PM EDT, Fri March 17, 2023
Trump’s post was the next day.
Who is pulling stuff from where?
It defies common sense that when everyone already knows Bragg is going planning to indict Trump soon, and everyone already knows Bragg’s intended case and knows that the grand jury is set for a meeting on Tuesday and had already heard witnesses Monday, the Milhouses and Fuzzys refuse to accept the obvious. If this was all a ruse concocted out of thin air by Trump “because of his ego” (isn’t it always?), Bragg would have quickly said that. He didn’t do that. He didn’t because it wasn’t true. But the Trump haters will bend over backwards out of their being “fair-minded” for anyone but Trump. This lie was started by Fuzzy as she admits above.
The most investigated man every and still no evidence of any crime yet the persecution is relentless. Trump just keeps fighting and winning because of his ego? Here at LI, the Trump haters keep doing the work for the communists taking over our country because the commies can’t do it themselves.
Don’t be ridiculous. Because it was the weekend, I wrote it up. Had it been during the week, someone else would have written it up.
Wrote a longer comment addressing this very issue, but decided not to post it, yet, if at all. The hostility to Trump is palpable, as if he’s been treated like Biden. Not that Trump would please Emily Post, but even she might support his policies and accomplishments.
That is not even remotely what Trump claimed. There’s nothing illegal about this information, it’s not a leak, and it doesn’t in any way justify his claim that “THEY’RE COMING ON TUESDAY TO TAKE ME AWAY”. He made that up out of thin air.
Pasadena Phil goes even further, claiming that “This lie was started by Fuzzy as she admits above.” That itself is an absolute lie. Both that Fuzzy started a lie, and that she admitted doing so. You and PP are both liars, just like your idol Trump.
If you have not figured out what Trump says by now, you never will. A sign of TDS is others.
It is FACT that five people told reporters of a possible indictment. No leak whatoever. Got it.
He may well have been told more after the leak. He may well have forestalled the impending WITCH HUNT! You’re more interested in in calling him a liar. Have at it.
Yes he was the one who made it up. His attorneys said they had received no notification about anything from Bragg’s office. Very careless, stupid and reckless.
I will be voting for Ron DeSantis.
Very careless, stupid and reckless.
No, very like the arrogant, narcissistic, ego driven idiot Trump truly is.
I will not vote Trump. Nor DeSantis. I will not vote for any presidential candidate in 2024 if either are nominated.
Made up the news reports that leaked the day before?
No, there were NO news reports that “leaked” anything. The news the day before reported open, routine, and completely expected news about law enforcement making contingency plans in case of an indictment, which could come soon, possibly even as early as the next week. That is all. Trump is the one who invented the idea that they were coming to arrest him on Tuesday, and that there was some kind of “ILLEGAL LEAK” about this, which nobody but him got.
The news report would not have been written, but for a leak. Up is down.
Why do you sound like you a spokesperson for the DA? It’s not like there aren’t others that see through the charade, and realize that these people are underhanded. The forest through the trees.
Fuzzy Slippers pretty much said the same thing..didn’t she?
Well, not exactly, but I did write about what Trump’s lawyer said along those lines. You can read it in this post: Trump Lawyer: About That Tuesday “Arrest” Date, Nevermind (“We’re all reading tea leaves because they refuse to communicate”)
Actually, I don’t thing Trump ”Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested”, rather he just repeated what others were saying to…
a. Garner sympathy.
b. Maybe prevent it from happening.
c. Let the fundraising begin!
1. Others (Democrats and NeverTrumpers) had predicted an earlier arrest on Saturday and then switched to Tuesday.
2. He’s played the victim before.
3. Every politician fundraises of whatever they can!
Where’s the function for editing types?
It’s always been about setting up expectations that would influence the political realm, and never been about Trump actually breaking the law. If they could get him into a courtroom, they would, but it’s always been about constantly chumming the waters just to keep Trump out there as such an awful guy.
(Whether you believe he’s an awful guy or not, it engages the pro-Trump and con-Trump sides and keeps them riled.)
Trump called Bragg’s bluff, who was holding only a pair of jokers.
Alvin is just now starting to figure out that he is a pawn, ready to be sacrificed in a moment for the greater cause of winning the game.
No doubt this is a politically motivated prosecution led by an ideological DA. It’s an attempt to wound Trump as the 2024 campaign season gains stream.
Who’s interest does that serve? Biden and d/prog. How b/c the media is jumping onto the opportunity to cover more Trump. He is good for ratings.
The real problem, IMO, is this circus sucks a good deal of the air in the room. The media and thus low info voters, are now fixated on this and not on
1. Closer China Russia ties
2. Bank system failures under Biden regulators
3. Bank depositor bailout by Feds but, according to Tres Sec only for big banks and others specifically designated by Biden admin…so not the local community bank but for donor class
4. Rejection of cease fire offer by Ukraine and USA
5. Raging inflation/insane govt spending, $32T debt
6. Open borders, drugs killing tens of thousands, cartels
7. Crazy teacher union antics and woke school boards indoctrination of kids, parents rights, school choice
Diverting attention away from these issues by a return to Trump circus headlines definitely helps Biden and d/prog more than any other beneficiary. Changes the subject and knocks other issues off the front page.
Those issues would likely be ignored in any event. The persecution of Trump enlightens people who the inquisitors actually are, zealots without much care about anything else. And that includes the media, who have better things to do than to report on the issues you mentioned.
I think this is less about wounding Trump, and more about just keeping the sides riled, and keeping Trump around to poison the primaries.
Yeah, Bragg has helped Trump here. And I wish Trump would go into graceful retirement as an elder statesman and maybe Secretary of State, doing what he does best, cutting international deals.
If the comments and threads here on LI are an indication, it’s working.
That explains why a poll released today shows Biden approval hitting it’s lowest yet. Yeah, Trump is helping Biden. Unbelievable.
If you refuse to concede the obvious truth that this media feeding frenzy about the possibility of Bragg ‘getting Trump’ stoked by Trump’s own public statements that he ‘would be arrested on Tuesday’ didn’t suck a good deal of airtime and headline space from other newsworthy events you are not being honest. Not with yourself and not with us.
Bread and circus
So, in other words, Trump called this wannabe Lavrentiy Beriya out and now he’s backing off.
Not voluntarily. He can’t indict if the gj doesn’t vote to indict this particular ham sandwich.
So Bragg allows an illegal leak to slip out that his department will be arresting Trump on Tuesday and then blames the uproar on Trump creating false expectations that he is about to be arrested on Tuesday. And the NeverTrumpers run with it.
No, he did not “allow” a leak to slip out. Trump made it up. Don’t pretend you haven’t known for years that Trump is a liar. This is just him lying again, as he has always done.
On Monday, Trump insinuated on Truth Social that DeSantis was a gay groomer who had possibly been involved with an underage teen boy. Cannot vote for Trump again.
He made equally insane and wicked allegations during the 2016 campaign. Did that prevent you from voting for him then?
Trump is who he is. He’s an unfit person to hold public office, but he’s no worse in that respect than Hillary Clinton, and as far as policy goes he proved himself in his first term, when despite his character flaws he did a yeoman’s job. Probably the best president since Coolidge, in terms of what he achieved. Whereas even a decent Democrat (if there even are such people left) would continue the disastrous policies of the current administration. So if Trump wins the nomination I think those in swing states will have to vote for him, because the alternative is a Democrat and that’s unthinkable.
Name a politician who doesn’t lie
Sez you and the other NeverTrumpers. These clowns leak everything before they strike. Why did Bragg reveal that it was true? Trump may not have gotten wind of the precise time of the indictment but he knew it was going to happen soon. He got that from somewhere. Lucky guess? Mine is a very accurate assessment. But you always require precision or lack thereof to claim the win, Trump learned about it and called him out. That IS he story.
News stories came out on March 17. Something was leaked.
“Why did Bragg reveal that it was true?”
He didn’t. You’re making that up.
“News stories came out on March 17. Something was leaked.”
No, they didn’t, and nothing was leaked. You’re making it up too.
Other people were saying Trump would be arrested before Trump decided to take advantage of it and say it too.
Of course, you know that if Trump were to be indicted, he would make a really HUUUGE show of turning himself in!
But now that the Grand Jury knows about the amount of exculpatory evidence withheld from them, they are more like to indict Bragg than Trump!
How do you know what Bragg did?
I know what was in the news, what his office announced, and what Trump’s lawyers announced. There was no leak, there were no news reports of any leak, and the lawyers said they were “reading tea leaves” and had no idea where Trump had got his information. Which means he invented it.
How did it get in the news? The stork?
Did you even read the two articles you linked? Everyone knows that a grand jury has been convened and why. We’ve known about this since January. Heck, Bragg ran on doing this (and won). Nothing about this is a surprise at all. To most (i.e. informed) people, anyway.
There is nothing in the two articles you linked about anything but security preparations, which is perfectly understandable given that it’s a former president under Secret Service protection. They are planning for complete lunatics who do not understand how anything works to carry out violence and/or to target Bragg. BOTH articles are crystal clear that the planning is precautionary, that no charges have been filed, and that this is all about planning for a special circumstance (again, it’s a former president).
BOTH articles are crystal clear that Trump and his lawyers plan for him to surrender should an indictment occur, and there are even plans being discussed about him holding a press conference in NYC . . . from Trump tower. Milhouse is correct. You have no idea what you are talking about. As usual.
Okay. It was just made up by Trump. Remember when he said they spied on him? Why do you invariably take the accusatory side of his adversaries? No wonder the guy has to fight like hell.
Take a knee, beg, good luck with that.
This clown has 2 degrees from Harvard. Do the students who had to study like hell and pass the bar ever feel any resentment about this? Do the professors who pass him get drunk after grading him? Or, is it all just part of the deal? A dubious law degree and then on to high paying corporate or government show jobs. I wouldn’t trust him to do a real estate closing on a tract house.
just watch the judicial confirmation hearings and you will see first hand the lack of quality legal minds graduating from law schools the past 15-25 years and it the quality is not getting any better now. It is almost as if those making the picks are looking for the worst of the worst.
Look at the children and you will see the man.
Bidens kids are as fucked up as their old man.
Trumps kids actually have a work ethic and appear to be bloody decent people (not to mention great parents).
this was the first and only reason I was willing to give Trump a chance 8 years ago. I was willing to listen to his plans BECAUSE his kids were not trust fund jet-setters who burn cash (aka Paris Hilton) or druggies.. Yes, they obviously got a leg up with good schools and investment opportunities but they did not seem to be squandering those opportunities.
How could anyone downvote that?
The same kind of person who reckons 10% China Joe is a great President 😂😂
Bragg was seen today at the Manhattan Nothing Burger restaurant.
Translation: This guy went off script and blew our timing. (Everybody knows I’m coming for him, but he’s not supposed to do anything until I make the next move of my choice.)
Observation: Speed is not the essence of strategy; timing is the essence of strategy.
The Feral Trumpster: Meep-meep!
Breadcrumbs lead to a couple of interesting characters – Paul Ryan and his Common Cause.
The letter was written in response to an FEC probe launched after complaints of campaign finance violations, lodged by Paul Ryan and the organization Common Cause.
Additioanally – MUR #7425 is linked to Campaign Legal Center; Bathija, Sandhya
3.5 M funded Black Lives Matter Organization.
Me think that election fraud is bought and paid for by the “$83 B” of BLM funding.
Agree. I noticed that too. Far left Common Cause, and we learn that Paul Ryan was behind the Stormy Daniels drama.
Again, this comment space drowned in spammed “Orange Crush” / “DeSantis Uber Alles” / “You ambisexual walnut.” at the merest name drop.
The noise mostly distracts from that way to make results. I put that noise at only about 2/3 trolls, agents provocateur, and false-flag actors. The other 1/3 are advancing The Wad’s cause as a side effect of some other damage.
Try “useful idiots'”
The apparatcheks and opportunists would have nothing to work with if the easily lead and trivially distracted didn’t play into their hands. Willfully dupe-able, because it’s just easier.
I don’t mind getting to live in the world I deserve. I do mind getting the world they deserve.
What is “the Wad?”
Bragg blaming Trump for creating a “false expectation that he would be arrested yesterday” is patent bad-lawyer speak, as well as completely un-self-aware.
If Trump was wrong on the timing (as one who does not control the process) does that make him wrong that Bragg was plotting his arrest on groundless, charges? Much less does any such uncertainty make it a “false” statement.
Bragg is like the KGB blaming a dissident in the old Soviet Union for complaining that he was afraid of being arrested, because they hadn’t yet nailed down the time table.
How do we know that the jury isn’t buying Bragg’s presentation? Who is the source?
Also: Bragg appears to be dangerously obese.
Bragg is not backpedaling from anything. And he is completely correct that Trump single-handedly created a false expectation that he was going to be arrested. That’s what this whole story has been about, all week.
I agree. Trump has pulled off a PT Barnum stunt. And you are correct, we don’t know if he is backpedaling or not.
I agree with Milhouse this time, although not very often. This was all a ruse by Trump. He ginned this up to make millions of dollars for himself from his gullible supporters, who are working class people who don’t have that much money to give to any political candidate, but they will do so when Trump tells them to. He is a shyster. He doesn’t care about working class people. He just wants their money. His base is not your mechanic, electrician, plumber or carpenter. His base is the Hollywood elite, like the Kardashians, whose criminal friends he will gladly pardon from lengthy prison sentences, and all of the Hollywood homosexual friends who support gay marriage which he parties with at his Florida resort. He will gladly pardon them from prison, but he will abandon the J6 people who are rotting in D.C. jails. How pathetic. You can never trust Donald Trump, unless you want to end up rotting in a D.C. jail. PROTEST! PROTEST! PROTEST! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! I am done with this.
Both NBC News and CNN reported the story of an impending arrest.
The NBC story sourced to “five senior officials familiar with the preparations.”
Lots of white noise here, but too few people source.
No they didn’t. They reported that law enforcement were preparing for the possibility of an indictment some time in the future, which is of course what they’re supposed to do. There was nothing secret about it, so no “ILLEGAL LEAK”, or any kind of leak. And there was nothing about any arrest.
Everyone knew, and still knows, that there’s a grand jury sitting, which means indictments may come. If and when Trump is indicted, that does not mean anyone will come to arrest him in Florida. But there is the possibility of riots, and it would be grossly negligent of law enforcement not to make plans for that contingency. That is all.
You’re trying too hard. All your stuff begs the question.
The irony of you NeverTrumpers now defending the lies of a rabid Garland tool. TDS truly does make people lose their minds. Hate blinds.
And you know this…. how? If this is true, why didn’t Bragg say that in his first statement? Because it ISN’T true. You are making it up.
He did say it.
Judging by Bragg’s girth, that egg won’t last too long on his face. 😉
Up to now I very strongly believed that DA Bragg was playing 3d chess to both influence the Republican primary in favor of Trump (a.k.a. Joe Biden’s best chance of being re-elected) while at the same time once again dragging down the GOP by making them retie themselves to the extremely unpopular Donald Trump.
However I have been unable to find where I could find any material from Bragg to conclude he intended on getting an indictment.
You could indict a ham sandwich, yes Trump could be indicted quickly and easily by DA Bragg there is no question about that at all.
I bet DA Bragg could probably indict Trump if he was operating in Rural Alabama.
So maybe this was just Donald Trump’s gambit and we all fell for it.
Not in my part nor most parts of Rural Alabama. It’s a common sight to see homes with Trump flags. Rural folks are pretty solid, common sense, show me/prove it types. Grand juries around here have been known to reject indictment b/c the defendant did what was needed at the time aka the alleged victim ‘needed killing’.
Grand juries refusing an indictment is rare to the point you should just consider an indictment to be a matter of “does the district attorney want one or not”.
The reason I said rural Alabama was just picking a random red area of a red state. The legal literature all agrees that the grand jury process is vestigial and in practice prosecutors in every state get whatever indictment they want.
The trope is largely true. However rural areas where people know each other v the relative anonymity of a city creates different conditions. When the members of the grand jury know the defendant even at second or third hand or are just familiar with their reputation it makes it different. The bad guys don’t get much slack and good guys get the benefit of the doubt in many instances.
That is an interesting comment.
Prosecutors elected by rural areas are also a lot less likely to be ideological crusaders than ones elected in cities so the prospect of good guys having an indictment sought is much lower to.
However a major point does stand which is prosecutors don’t need to show everything to a grand jury. I.e. the prosecutors of Kyle Rittenhouse did not have to show the video of what happened which would prove that it was an act of self defense.
While I do agree that it is better protection to have a small community than having no protection at all I have my doubts about how good you could say the protection is against what has unfortunately become a largely vestigal practice.
But your comment is persuasive and I am no longer convinced I’m definitely right about it.
