Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Reveals ‘Overhaul’ for Education, Banning CRT and Offering School Choice

“We want to make sure we’re empowering parents by giving them educational freedom accounts to allow them to make the best decision about where and how their kids should be educated”

Regarding education, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders inherited a system in distress. Arkansas has been ranked as one of the lowest-performing states in the country.

Now she is trying to change that with an overhaul that includes banning Critical Race Theory and encouraging school choice, among other things.

FOX News reports:

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders takes on critics of education reform plan: Our kids are in a ‘broken system’

Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday her reform plan represents “the biggest overhaul” in U.S. education after her office unveiled a sweeping proposal that includes the elimination of critical race theory in the classroom, teacher wage increases and the expansion of school choice.

Earlier this month, Sanders’ office formally proposed legislation to the Republican-controlled state legislature, called “Arkansas LEARNS,” as one of her first major pushes since taking office as the nation’s youngest governor. The bill, if passed, would increase the current base salary for teachers from $36,000 to $50,000, which would rank Arkansas 4th highest base-salary for teachers in the nation. The measure is also aimed at broadening school choice, with the goal of adopting full universal choice for all Arkansas families by school year 2025-2026 and seeks to eliminate any CRT or “indoctrination” in curriculum.

“We want to make sure we’re empowering parents by giving them educational freedom accounts to allow them to make the best decision about where and how their kids should be educated,” Sanders said on “The Story” Tuesday. “No child should be trapped in a failing school just because of their zip code or their parents’ bank account.”

She talked about this on FOX News yesterday. Watch below:

Sanders deserves credit for getting to this so quickly. It’s not only smart politics, it’s the right thing to do for Arkansas families.

Republican governors like Sanders, Youngkin, and DeSantis are leading a new movement for education that focuses on students and their families, not teacher unions and bureaucrats.

It is long overdue.

Sarah…

Reading a number of the responses on the Governor’s tweet is all the confirmation I need to know that Twitter is a cesspool.

Certainly what the Marxist Seminaries are doing is failing kids. Get back to reading , writing and arithmetic and the Constitution and it will be better.

Any policy that lessens the grip of government and increases the power of individuals gets my vote. That, after all, follows the Framers entire constitutional theses: control the created beast so that individual liberty is preserved.

Here’s a worrisome warning from the Home School Legal Defense Association regarding pending legislation in Florida. The legislation seems to implement additional government supervision over home schoolers even if they do not apply for state funding. This paves the way for leftists to interfere with private and home schoolers in the event of a change in the political party in charge.

Nice to see another R Governor stepping up and moving the ball on important issues.

Something we never saw from the likes of Sunnunu, Hogan, or Mitt Romney

The dividing lines are clear between the establishment and everyone else. The establishment backs the weirdos pushing DEI, CRT principles, trans nonsense. The populist right opposes all that, wants the Parents and community to have a much bigger say in curriculum and policy while also moving to adopt true school choice; funding Students not the System.

Hogan is a RINO.

I wish Sarah well, she is trying to deal with a huge problem.

Vouchers for choice? All right, but I am against handing out money for education without very strict controls, as in home school funding.

I am also “against handing out money for education without very strict controls” as in government monopoly bureaucratic “public” indoctrination schools. Since the government schools have no direct accountability to parents and indoctrinate children into leftism, can I stop paying my government school taxes?
