National Archives Asks Former Presidents and VPs to Check for Any Classified Documents
“we request that you conduct an assessment of any materials held outside of NARA that relate to the Administration for which you serve as a designated representative under the PRA”
The National Archives asked all former presidents and vice presidents to check their areas for any stray classified documents.
They’re concerned now that these documents have been discovered in possession of so many people.
First on CNN: National Archives asks former presidents and vice presidents to check for classified and presidential documents
The National Archives is formally asking former presidents and vice presidents to re-check their personal records for any classified documents or other presidential records in the wake of classified documents discovered in the homes of former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence and President Joe Biden over the last year.
The Archives sent a letter Thursday to representatives of former presidents and vice presidents from the last six presidential administrations covered by the Presidential Records Act (PRA) – from former President Ronald Reagan’s White House to the present.
The letter, which was reviewed by CNN, requests that they check their files to ensure that material thought to be personal does not “inadvertently” contain presidential records that are required by law to be turned over to the Archives.
“The responsibility to comply with the PRA does not diminish after the end of an administration,” the letter states. “Therefore, we request that you conduct an assessment of any materials held outside of NARA that relate to the Administration for which you serve as a designated representative under the PRA, to determine whether bodies of materials previously assumed to be personal in nature might inadvertently contain Presidential or Vice Presidential records subject to the PRA, whether classified or unclassified.”
Ryan King of the Washington Examiner has more on this:
Under the Presidential Records Act, which was referenced in the letter, presidents and vice presidents are required to relinquish presidential material to the agency to preserve for historical purposes. The law lacks teeth, and there is no criminal penalty for those who fail to comply. However, mishandling classified documents is subject to other laws.
Straggling files marked as classified have recently been discovered at residences or locations associated with former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and former Vice President Mike Pence.
The agency sent its letter to representatives for former Presidents Trump, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan, as well as former Vice Presidents Pence, Biden, Dick Cheney, Al Gore, and Dan Quayle, per CNN.
It’s fascinating how the procedures have changed since last summer.
The National Archives are now asking former presidents & vice presidents to check for classified documents.
So Trump gets an armed FBI raid and the others get an engraved invitation.

It's all very well for the National Archives to ask other past presidents for classified materials and for FBI Director Wray to talk about the need for people to follow the rules. What really has to happen is an apology to Trump and the public for the excessive raid on Mar-a-Lago

JUST IN: National Archives asks former presidents & vice presidents to re-check their personal records for classified docs.
They raid Trump and “ask” everyone else. Got it.

Donations tax deductible
to the full extent allowed by law.
NOW (pun intended), they care? All is fair in lust and abortion? No. Hell no. Send the FBI to raid their homes, offices, wives’ bedrooms, and other personal effects.
Nah, Biden’s super duper secret papers are a nothing burger, just ask Pence
Boy if you ever needed concrete Uniparty antiTrump evidence for Pence
Couldn’t wrote a better story line.
To all officers! Vice President carrying important classified documents murdered on train from Oran. Murderer and possible accomplices headed for Casablanca. Round up all suspicious characters and search them for classified documents. Important!
Sorry.. Just kinda popped into my head when reading the story.
Classified material unsecured is a criminal offense, not an overdue library book.
FBI investigates such things, well, except if committed by Democrats.
I’m not a fan of most of our ex-presidents, but they should tell the National Archives to go f themselves. They don’t determine what’s personal and what’s a presidential record. Presidents do.
Go see if Barky does have a warehouse in Chicago full of documents he paid National Archives to look th other way
Double dog dare ya
no send the FBI in to bust down their freaking doors just like they did with Trump.
Why stop at former living presidents and vice presidents? Who knows what Washington or Lincoln or Wilson might have squirreled away?
As a side note- the decay of the “grid” around us is more real than you can imagine. By grid I don’t mean just electrical- I mean a lot of things.
Being vague for a reason. Just know what you will do if everything you count on from the modern world stops.
I imagine the Clintons are having a good belly laugh over this.
Maybe they should extend that to former and current senators as well. Biden removed docs illegally when he was in the US Senate.
They’re straining to maintain the fiction that it matters whether high officials have retained classified documents.
Actually, it doesn’t.
There’s no secret that any foreign spy wants in any of their houses. What they’ve retained is crap. The US media would like to know the secrets perhaps, anyway the opposition party would.
Maybe we should all check under the bed, just to be sure.

“All great advice, and great examples of how the government helps you under the Biden Administration! I’m going to begin doing all these things very first thing tomorrow, and I’m asking all Americans to follow my lead! Where’s Doug?”
Since each outgoing VP/P takes literally *tons* of material with them and none of them have had the entire bundle gone through even if it has been decades since the truck left the White House, I’d bet ten bucks that each of them have a few documents that could get swept up in this mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
I want to see what current and former members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees have stashed in their closets
Evidently, current and former Secretary of State don’t count either
Well, that sure looks like some folks are not all about appeasing the Archives’ demands.
I await the G-men’s dawn raid on The Lightbringer’s
templepresidential library under construction,. We won’t miss it. It’ll be on CNN, of course.
I thought a “noose” halted all construction.
