Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams ‘Never Kevin’ Faction of the GOP

As you probably know, some conservatives in the House of Representatives are hesitant to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California as House Speaker.

You may not have heard that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is not one of them. Not only is she supporting McCarthy for Speaker, but she is also tangling with other Republicans who are not.

Newsweek recently highlighted Greene’s support of McCarthy:

Why Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Breaking With MAGA to Support Kevin McCarthyRepresentative Marjorie Taylor Greene is breaking with some of her closest allies to support Kevin McCarthy’s speaker bid.McCarthy, a California Republican who is the House minority leader, is in for a tougher-than-expected speaker race after Republicans flipped only a handful of House seats in the midterms last month. The biggest threat to a speakership at this point is a right-wing challenger from Arizona, Representative Andy Biggs.Should Biggs receive enough support from the Republican Party’s right flank, he could derail McCarthy’s bid. Several high-profile MAGA Republicans—including Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert—have indicated they might withhold support for McCarthy unless he meets conservative demands.Greene, a Georgia Republican who is viewed as among the most conservative members of the House, is one notable exception. Once a McCarthy critic, Greene has rallied behind McCarthy, calling on the GOP to show unity in supporting his speakership—finding herself at odds with other right-wing Republicans…”Nothing can happen until we elect a speaker on January 3. And I think it’s our job as representatives of the people to get our act together and show the American people that Republicans can lead in the majority and that we’re willing to do that,” she said.

Greene is talking like a realist who wants the new House Republican majority to get to work.

She recently wrote an op-ed about this for the Daily Caller:

If Republicans Want To Get Things Done, There’s Only One Choice For House SpeakerThe one thing people are sick and tired of from Washington, D.C., is empty promises.Lying to the base is a red line for me, and that’s what five of my closest colleagues are doing when they claim a consensus House Speaker candidate will emerge as they oppose Kevin McCarthy. Here’s the reality: No one is running against Kevin McCarthy for Speaker. No, Jim Jordan is not running. He has endorsed Kevin McCarthy. Jim is preparing to lead the Judiciary Committee as chairman, exactly where we all need him to be. Jim Jordan will lead the charge to rip apart the corrupt Department of Justice and FBI.No, Steve Scalise is not running. He was unanimously elected Majority Leader and publicly supports Kevin McCarthy…Perhaps more than any Republican, I am ready for our majority because I believe there is real work to be done to save our country. And the last thing I want is everything blown up on day one simply because a few dislike Kevin McCarthy, who is promoting the very agenda they believe in.This “Never Kevin” trick has been done before. Some in the Freedom Caucus ousted John Boehner using the same “Vacate the Chair” rule that’s being demanded now. That’s how we got Paul Ryan as Speaker. The “Never Kevin Five” are already vacating the chair by refusing to vote for our conference nominee while simultaneously demanding the “Vacate the Chair” rule to remove the Speaker at a later date.If they are successful, they will give us something worse than Paul Ryan.

Republicans should listen to Greene and get to work.

There isn’t a minute to waste.
