Germany is facing the worst winter in a decade as the energy crisis deepens in the wake of dwindling Russian gas supply, the country’s main energy source for household and industrial consumption.
With Germany freezing ahead of Christmas, the country’s socialist-led government urges citizens to cut back on heating despite record-low temperatures.
“As Germany experienced its coldest December in a decade, the government implored residents to exercise restraint on turning up the heat,” Germany’s state-run Deutsche Welle TV reported Wednesday. “December 2022 could be Germany’s coldest in a decade,” the broadcaster noted.
German government’s call for savings on household heating is in addition to sweeping measures to ration energy supply to cities and municipalities across the nation.

Snow blanketed most of Germany on Wednesday, from Berlin to the western city of Cologne, and especially in the mountainous southern areas of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.As temperatures dipped to minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) in some areas, the German weather service (DWD) called on residents to exercise caution, particularly in the icy south. “The DWD also warned that infrastructure could be disturbed by the snow and ice, including power cuts and road closures. Train delays were also expected as tracks got snowed under. Trains operating at higher elevations and international trains to Switzerland and France from Baden-Württemberg were particularly affected, according to rail operator Deutsche Bahn.Public broadcaster ZDF reported that December 2022 could be Germany’s coldest in a decade. After years of mild Decembers, the news came at a poor time as an energy crunch and skyrocketing prices have Germans trying to use as little gas as possible.Reliant on Russian gas for many purposes in recent years, including heating many homes and businesses, sanctions against following the invasion of Ukraine have hit consumers across the country hard. Though Germany has managed to source gas elsewhere, the situation remained precarious, the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said on Wednesday.
The mainstream German newspapers, magazines, and TV channels, who have wholeheartedly embraced the climate change agenda peddled by the country’s political elite, are busy churning out a flurry of articles telling people how to save on heating and electricity this Christmas.
“Light’s Out!” Germany’s leading newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung told its readers. “But is it really that bad?” the paper arrogantly asks.
The state-funded Deutschlandfunk radio broadcaster declared: “Holiday-lights out! So we might overcome of the crisis.” The outlets told their listeners to use eco-friendly “straw stars” instead of lighting up Christmas trees or houses.
The surging energy bills also put Germany’s traditional bakeries out of business ahead of Christmas.
The crisis is much deeper than climate globalists want us to believe. The energy crisis poses an existential threat to the industrialized West. German public broadcaster Tagesschau warned that “according to a study, massive surge in gas prices may lead to the de-industrialization of German and Europe.”
No amount of rationing or energy saving might be enough to avert the coming disaster. Bloomberg News cited a recent survey claiming that the German firms were “running out of ways to save” energy. “Large parts of German industry will no longer be able to avoid production cuts if companies need to further reduce natural gas consumption,” the outlet reported.
As ordinary Germans freeze and sit in the dark this Christmas, the climate fanatics are killing two birds with one stone: disrupting Christian festivities (so hated and despised by them), and destroying Europe’s biggest industrial nation.
