Indoctrinated by the German political elite and mainstream media, the country’s climate activists are getting increasingly hysterical and militant.
On Thursday evening, activists of the extremist German climate group “The Last Generation” stormed the runways of the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, gluing themselves to the tarmac and chanting mindless climate slogans — forcing one of Europe’s busiest airports to shut down for nearly two hours, the German media reported.
“Pro-environment activists gained access to the runways and stopped planes from taking off or landing at Berlin Brandenburg airport for nearly two hours,” Germany’s state-run DW TV reported.
“The activists livestreamed their protest on Twitter, showing some gluing themselves to the ground and others cycling around the site. The footage on Twitter showed them cutting through a fence and holding up banners,” the broadcaster added.
The public broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) reported:
On Thursday, climate protesters belonging to the “Last Generation” entered the airfield of the Berlin Airport without authorization, and caused the suspension of air traffic for the duration. This was announced by a spokesman for the airport on Thursday. After one and a half hours the two runways of the BER [Berlin Airport] were be released again at around 6:20 p.m., reports say.The “Last Generation” activists had previously barged into the airport at two places, both on the north and south sides. Thus causing the runways to be closed.Berlin Airport’s spokesman Jan-Peter Haack said in the evening that flight operations were suspended for 90 minutes, with 15 flights being diverted, some to Düsseldorf. As a spokesman [for the company] Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG confirmed to the RBB, five planes landed in Leipzig/Halle and eight in Dresden. (…)It was initially unclear how many unauthorized persons entered the airfield. According to the police, several persons have been taken into custody. The police headquarters in Brandenburg responded to the media query by saying that the climate activists would be charged with the dangerous disruption of air traffic, trespassing and property damage. In recent months, the “Last Generation” climate agitators have been gluing themselves to motorways and autobahns across Germany, causing massive rush-hour traffic jams. The extremist group, which appears more like a sect, believes that the “world has only a few years left to turn the wheel around and avoid catastrophic levels of global warming,” the French TV channel Euronews reported.
Besides disrupting air traffic and autobahns, the Last Generation militants also vandalize iconic Western artworks displayed in European museums. “Two climate activists threw mashed potatoes at Claude Monet’s “Les Meules” and then glued themselves underneath the painting on Sunday. Museum Barberini in Potsdam, Germany said on Twitter that the painting was not damaged during the incident,” CBS News reported last month. “Last Generation, a climate activist group based in Germany, claimed responsibility for the action.”
While Germany’s media and political elite sympathize with growing climate hysteria and activism, the right-wing opposition party Alternative of Germany (AfD) urged the authorities to stop treating these militants with kid gloves.
The climate activists who disrupted the air traffic in Berlin “should get the punishment in line with the German criminal code,” AfD deputy leader Beatrix von Storch demanded on Twitter. Von Storch cited article 315 of the German criminal code (StGB), which suggests a 10-year prison sentence for such crimes.
