CDC Finally Drops Quarantine, Distance, and School Testing COVID Guidelines

Yeah, many of us dropped these guidelines a long time ago.

It’s been two-and-a-half years. The CDC is finally changing its guidelines regarding quarantine and distancing COVID guidelines:

The nation’s top public health agency relaxed its COVID-19 guidelines Thursday, dropping the recommendation that Americans quarantine themselves if they come into close contact with an infected person.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said people no longer need to stay at least 6 feet away from others.

The changes, which come more than 2 1/2 years after the start of the pandemic, are driven by a recognition that an estimated 95% of Americans 16 and older have acquired some level of immunity, either from being vaccinated or infected, agency officials said.

“The current conditions of this pandemic are very different from those of the last two years,” said the CDC’s Greta Massetti, an author of the guidelines.

The CDC dropped its “recommendation that schools do routine daily testing.” But the agency said a school could do it again if it sees a surge in infections.

The agency also dropped its recommendation that schools “test-to-stay” after a student was exposed to COVID.

The CDC still recommends masks “in areas where community transmission is deemed high, or if a person is considered at high risk of severe illness.”

Thankfully, many people have already moved forward and dropped mandates and rules. But there are some people like this one at Dartmouth:

Allowing students to return to school five days after infection, without proof of a negative COVID-19 test, could lead to outbreaks in schools, said Anne Sosin, a public health researcher at Dartmouth College. That could force entire schools to close temporarily if teachers get sick in large numbers, a dilemma that some schools faced last year.

“All of us want a stable school year, but wishful thinking is not the strategy for getting there,” she said. “If we want a return to normal in our schools, we have to invest in the conditions for that, not just drop everything haphazardly like we’re seeing across the country.”

The Wall Street Journal quoted Eleanor Murray, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health: “It’s disappointing that the CDC is removing protections and reducing the number of precautions they recommend at a time when cases are continuing to float along at this high level.”

I wonder if Sosin and Murray feel that way about the flu.

If you’re sick, then stay home. If you’re sick, then stay away from people. COVID, flu, common cold, whatever.

As if anybody outside the far left bubble cares what ‘CDC guidelines’ are at this point.

Gee, I wonder why now and not two and a half years ago. No question mark on purpose.

Ahead of midterms, sure.

They will be back if Dems have a say.

Now when are they going to admit that face diapers do about as much good as wearing a red string on your wrist.

It’s too soon for that many blows to the psyche of the typical karen. If they lost the high ground on masks they’d have to find something else to complain about. The mask guidance is probably the longest relationship many Karen have had, at least judging by internet vids of rampaging Karen.

Around here, the people I see most with them are under age 25ish. I saw a gaggle of teenagers at the grocery store last night, 6-7 of them. All had a mask.

    Brainwashing works.

Of course, the value of the mask has not been lost on shoplifters and other petty criminals. Don’t discount that.

Perhaps the best remedy is to return to enforcing the mask portion of State level ‘anti Klan’ laws.

The most brilliant account I have heard combined two great leftist positions: theft is no longer a big deal, and everyone must be masked.

About a year ago, I heard a story of a woman who was shopping in L.A. maskless. She had already mostly finished when the manager came over to her and told her she would have to leave or put on a mask. She looked down into her cart, saw the value was well under the $950 limit, and left the store with it.

The Dartmouth person is not totally wrong. “Outbreaks” could happen, but the question is how severe and what effect will they have on the community.

The problem I have is that these kind of cautious naysayer type reports are very quietly left alone by most of the media when a Dem is in office, but when their opposition is in it’s Armageddon reborn. And if these outbreaks did occur, there would be a huge firestorm of coverage if so. On the other hand, because Dems are in power, it will be likely swept under the rug if it does happen.

FYI, I’m currently COVID positive going on 4 days now. I’m wearing a mask when I have to go out because they do work to a partial degree as source control (not as protection for the uninfected wearer but as reduction in emission from the infected wearer). Mostly, though, I’m isolating as much as possible until it passes. It’s still here but it’s more like the flu now. Also, women seem to carry slightly higher antibody titers due to either previous infection or vaccination than males according to a few studies.

If masks worked as a source control, why has Japan shattered its infection numbers and deaths compared to a year ago?

Do not try to reason with anyone who thinks a mask will stop any virus, whether from the sick individual or from someone else. And this rule applies as much to milquetoast conservatives as it does to douchebag Leftists.

Define “worked”…if you mean stopping transmission at or near 100%, then no they don’t work. They reduce transmission from a source, better than nothing at all. Obviously, isolation and distancing work even better. Masks are one of many factors in spread dynamics and will allow source pass through eventually. The timeline for that pass through is relevant in daily encounters if not of N95/KN95 quality with a good fit.

Japan is a densely populated country that doesn’t allow for much distancing once an outbreak seeds. There’s so much of an overcrowding problem that living space is sold in cubic measures rather than square footage like most countries.

The main point I was trying to make though was that some of those people you saw may have had a positive test and that’s why they were masking as a courtesy to others. It doesn’t mean they were just doing it for fun…though I’ve seen both types on college campuses.

Maybe they finally did it because almost nobody is following them anymore.

“The current conditions of this pandemic are very different from those of the last two years,” said the CDC’s Greta Massetti, an author of the guidelines.

True; a Dumb-o-crat, dotard-marionette is now ensconced in the White House geriatric ward. Thus, there is no tangible political benefit to be gained from engaging in continued Wuhan virus histrionics, fear-mongering and dishonesty.

And…cue the west side Los Angeles parents going into freak-out mode.

FYI: California will require kids to be vaccinated in January in order to attend in-person classes.

I still regularly see people walking, running, or biking outside with their masks on, and there are still testing tents everywhere. I pass at least 6 of them every day on my 2 mile commute to work.

California will require kids to be vaccinated in January in order to attend in-person classes

Anything to eliminate the control group.

CDC is socially distancing itself from its not so distant stances.
