Raccoons may look cute, but never forget they are wild animals.

University of Texas warns of raccoons on campus after three students bittenUniversity of Texas officials are warning students to stay away from raccoons on the campus after three students were bitten and received rabies vaccinations as a precautionary measure.The UT Office of Campus Safety tweeted Wednesday that the university has seen “an increase of incidents involving raccoons and the UT student population where raccoons may be made bolder due to being fed by humans.”The raccoon in question is believed to be located around the outside of the McCombs School of Business and the Perry-Castañeda Library, and it might feel threatened by close contact, especially if it has offspring nearby, according to the UT Office of Campus Safety.UT said people should be aware of their surroundings in the area and seek medical attention immediately if they are scratched or bitten by a raccoon or any other wildlife. The university also is urging people to not approach raccoons with the intent to feed, pet or take pictures with it.
