Six Killed in Shooting in Downtown Sacramento; Search for Multiple Shooters Begins

Six people were killed, and 12 others were injured in a mass shooting incident in downtown Sacramento early Sunday. A search has begun for multiple shooters tied to the violence.

The death toll, and the number of wounded, made the bloodbath in the vicinity of 10th and K streets the worst mass shooting in Sacramento’s history.Police Chief Kathy Lester said the shooting, which followed a fight, left three men and three women dead. Officers have recovered a stolen handgun at the scene, she said, and “we have confirmed there were multiple shooters.”She said there were no suspects in custody as of Sunday afternoon and stressed that the investigation was at its earliest stage. She said police cameras in the vicinity were able to “capture portions of the shootings.”The shootings took place around the 1000 block of K Street, near a strip of nightclubs close to such Sacramento landmarks as Golden 1 Center and the state Capitol.“We know that a large fight took place just prior to the shootings,” said Lester, who was sworn in as chief two weeks ago. She called the level of violence “unprecedented in my 27 years with the Sacramento Police Department.”

I have reported on the crime and violence that has exploded across California, including a smash-and-grab heist in Beverly Hills, resulting in $5 million in goods stolen from a jewelry store. Lax penalties and progressive DA’s have led to creating the New Wild West in California.

The incident in Sacramento may be the California version of the OK Corral minus the horses.

Yet, the governor wants to blame the shootings….on the guns.

“Sadly, we once again mourn the lives lost and for those injured in yet another horrendous act of gun violence,” Newsom said in a statement Sunday. “Jennifer and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and to the wider community impacted by this terrible tragedy.””What we do know at this point is that another mass casualty shooting has occurred, leaving families with lost loved ones, multiple individuals injured and a community in grief. The scourge of gun violence continues to be a crisis in our country, and we must resolve to bring an end to this carnage,” his statement continued.

A video making the rounds on social media shows a large fight breaking out in the area before the shootings began.

The area where Sunday’s killings occurred is on the outskirts othe city’s main entertainment district and has many bars and restaurants. It’s anchored by the Golden One Center that attracts big-name concerts and is home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. City officials have invested heavily in the area to promote development.Videos on social media showed what appeared to be an altercation before the gunfire in California’s capital city. Sgt. Zach Eaton, a police spokesperson, said they “don’t know if that fight actually lead to the shooting.”Kelsey Schar was staying on the fourth floor of Citizen Hotel when she said she heard gunshots and saw flashes in the dark. She walked to the window and “saw a guy running and just shooting,” Schar told the AP….A video posted on Twitter showed people running through the street amid the sounds of rapid gunfire. Nightclubs close at 2 a.m. and it’s typical for streets to be full of people at that hour in the city of about 525,000, located 75 miles (120 kilometers) from San Francisco.

The motive is unknown, though officials indicate this may be tied to gang activity.

Police confirmed a stolen handgun was recovered from the scene. However, authorities suspect at least two different weapons were fired, according to a law enforcement source.A motive for the violence was unclear. Law enforcement sources told The Times that the shooting involved gang members and associates.
