Florida Becomes First State to Recommend Against Covid Vaccine for Healthy Children

In many respects, Florida has led the way out of the COVID pandemic for the rest of the country.

The Sunshine State may have done it again, as it becomes the first in the nation to recommend against the covid vaccine for healthy children.

Florida’s top health official said on Monday the state would recommend against the COVID-19 vaccine for healthy children, breaking with guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In announcing the move during press briefing convened by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the state’s surgeon general Dr. Joseph Lapado cited studies that showed few COVID fatalities among healthy children and elevated risk among young boys receiving the vaccine of side effects such as myocarditis.”The Florida Department of Health is going to be first state to officially recommend against the use of COVID 19 vaccines for healthy children,” Lapado said during the more than 90-minute panel discussion.

The announcement came after a 90-minute discussion among ten doctors and researchers. They challenged the coronavirus mitigation measures (e.g., vaccine mandates, mask requirements, and business and school closures) promoted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Coronavirus Task Force, and other bureaucratic public health entities.

The timing is important because the bureaucrats are pressing for the vaccination of children.

“I think what Florida’s guidance reflects is the latest research,” DeSantis told reporters at a news conference at Plant City later in the day. He said healthy kids are at low risk for the virus and that he’s seen studies showing there’s “very little benefit” for them. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages five and older. That agency recommends vaccinating children. Vaccines for children younger than 5 have not yet been approved

The media is pushing the point that Florida is “breaking” with the CDC on this issue. Given all the reversals that CDC officials have made, and the statements issued by experts that have turned out to be untrue, perhaps a break is the most sensible course to take in covid response as it enters its endemic phase.

As an example of the most recent cringe-inducing reveal, Here is Dr. Rochelle Walensky (Director of the CDC), recalling the coverage of clinical trial results that indicated the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was 95 percent effective.

“So many of us wanted to be helpful. So many of us wanted to say, ‘Okay, this is our ticket out, right, ‘now we’re done.’ So I think we have perhaps too little caution and too much optimism for some good things that came our way. I really do. I think all of us wanted this to be done.”“Nobody said ‘waning’; ‘Oh this vaccine is going to work, oh well, maybe it’ll wear off.’ Nobody said, ‘Well, what if the next variant, it’s not as [effective] against the next variant.”
