EPA Restores California’s Authority to Set Auto Greenhouse Gas Emission Rules, Likely to Exacerbate Gas Price Increases

EPA Restores California’s Authority to Set Auto Greenhouse Gas Emission Rules, Likely to Exacerbate Gas Price Increases

Under the radar, EPA chief Michael Regan forces the country into adopting green energy policies that can’t meet America’s energy needs and most regular Americans don’t want.

The Biden administration has made a number of disastrous appointments in terms of selecting individuals who spearhead effective policies that actually help the American people.

Between the border crisis, the Afghanistan withdrawal, the supply chain challenges, inflation, and the astonishing decisions related to Ukraine, the American people are reeling.

However, one of the appointments that has gone under the radar so far is that of EPA administrator Michael Regan. During his confirmation hearing, the climate-crisis-embracing, green-justice nominee said America could learn from California.

Regan’s EPA has now made life harder for Californians, reinstating the state’s authority to set motor vehicle greenhouse gas emissions standards stricter than the federal government’s.

The decision, announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, reverses an attempt by the Trump administration to block the state from using its vast market power to push the auto industry in a greener direction. The 2019 revocation of its waiver from the federal standard put California and the states that follow its lead on pollution limits into regulatory limbo, casting a mood of uncertainty across the automobile industry.

“This is truly important,” EPA Administrator Michael Regan told The Times. “Not just for the people in California but for the nation as a whole. We are proudly reaffirming California’s longstanding authority to lead in this area.”

Supplies of gasoline will be more regulated and expensive. Companies who rely on traditional fuel sources will have to make cost-cutting moves. But as far as Regan is concerned, that is okay: Regan defended Biden’s decision to kill jobs as an effort to “transition” the economy

Clearly the Biden administration is using the “climate crisis”—and more recently, the situation in Ukraine—as an excuse to cut the nation’s fossil fuel supplies and force the country into “transitioning” to green energy that can’t meet America’s energy needs and that most regular Americans don’t want.

Sadly, it’s not just California that gets to experience the pain. The EPA also reinstated the ability of states to use the California standards instead of the federal standards.

This action pairs with another move Regan made that went under the radar late last year, as the country began dealing with the supply chain crisis. The EPA also offered a proposal to reduce methane emissions.

At the center of this proposal is a rule which will put tighter methane regulations on the oil and gas industry. The rule, if imposed, would be the first time existing “reductions from existing sources nationwide” are targeted, according to an EPA press release.

EPA Administrator Michael Reagan [sic] said the new regulations would severely limit methane emissions below even the Obama-era threshold set in 2016, according to The Associated Press.

In what the AP reported was a rare move, Democrats used their legislative majority in Congress to roll back former President Donald Trump’s regulatory cutbacks by reinstating the old Obama-era standard last summer.

Increases in fuel prices also mean increases in diesel prices. The trucking industry is already suffering greatly from diesel price increases since the Biden regime took power. NOTHING we buy or sell moves without trucking. Therefore, both independent truckers and trucking companies need to either boycott pickups and deliveries to California, or to tack on the massive surcharges needed to cover all the additional costs. The West Coast states have made their choices, With choices come consequences.

How insane
More than anyone ever would Have believed… ever

Yep… America will learn from California’s example. Unfortunately, Regan is a person who will not have the dire consequences affect him…. and even if they did… it wouldn’t be enough punishment for the damage done. Innovation and breakthrough technology cannot be scheduled or snapped into existence. The main reason for any reduced emissions will be a collapsed economy…. they feel that any suffering now will be less than in the future.

I’m guessing that people here don’t realize that CA’s refineries can only refine imported gas and oil. I only learned that last week myself. Why would anyone even think to ask such a dumb question? We have a president who is determined to crush our domestic petroleum industry while begging our enemies to sell us oil so why should this be surprising?

Idiots! That state is run by idiots!

We keep saying that, but think about it: the idiots got where they are because we allowed them to.

    So who is the idiot?

There is a lot of that going around, probably where you live too. It is so easy to just pile on to CA yet just about every major city in the US is a sanctuary city. The difference in CA is that the Republican Party itself abandoned its CA voters and left us holding the bag. When I moved to CA in 1989, this was Reagan country.

It’s the Cheney administration that orchestrated the flip from red to blue during the recall election that gave us Arnold. No Republican has since been elected to statewide office which last happened in 1932. CA voters didn’t do that, the GOP leaders did.

How many times have we seen that since Bush 41 fumigated the WH to get rid of Reagan’s stink in 1989? McCain and Romney both chose red states turning purple as their battleground states and lost them all. Trump took the battle to the enemy, the cities and vulnerable blue states and WON!.

So don’t blame CA. Blame the Stupid Party.

Left CA in 2018- this is so true. GOP refused to stand up, and only willing to be slightly less than whatever the Democrats were. Same as some of our GOP nationally. Pathetic and infuriating.

Death Be Not Proud.

No, really your selection process leaves a lot to be desired. Frankly it sucks. Everyday you could easily take your scythe and clear a swath of right bastards who take great pride in raining down misery on others. But as this article shows you have been shirking. Is Hell having a supply chain problem?

The d/prog will regret this. If a State, here CA, is allowed to depart upwards from EPA level then in the future another State say TX, can be authorized a downward departure. Then other States could choose which of the three standards they wish to adhere to.

Another way to skin the cat on fuel standards is to only allow States to deviate from standard blend fuel where they also:
A. Authorize drilling
B. Refine the fuel in State from crude to final distillate

This limits any particular State from exercising a veto or outsize influence on other State’s Energy policy while increasing federalism.

Funny in the past 12 months I’ve removed all the Ca compliant crap from my chain saws, leaf blowers, and weed eater. They all run a thousand times better now.

If auto makers were smart, theyd be designing vehicles to easily be de-smogged. It’s a pain in the butt to do it now as you have to reflash the computer.

Soon in CA all the small stroke gardening tools (e.g. leaf blowers) will have to be electric….no more dirty gasoline powered tools will be allowed.
In San Jose they want to force all homes off natural gas by 2030. They plan to cut off the supply to ensure compliance.
Yes, the state is run by crazy people.

Wow, danvillemom, I had not heard about the natural gas thing. I escaped from San Jose last year. Again – idiots!

What I am seeing now: the state’s policies are too far even for the liberals I know and they are moving out of state, bringing their toxic ideas with them. It’s funny – when Ben Shapiro pulled up stakes and moved his entire production to Tennessee it’s like he gave the green light to young conservatives, that it was OK to leave. In fact so many young conservative families moved out that a not-politically-aware man from my church asked me sincerely, “Is there something I should know? Why have so many people from church moved out of California?” To a person, everyone we both knew who moved was conservative – my friend just wasn’t aware (in the Bay Area you have to keep your conservative beliefs hidden.) I know of entire extended families who have left. Then there are the retirees, but they were already leaving the state.

I am now hearing from liberal families that the condition of the state is too much – especially concerning the education of their children. They are now moving out, or looking to move. They are encouraging their friends to leave too. These very well educated people don’t see a connection between how they vote and the consequences. You know one place they talk about? Austin Texas. I am so sorry Texas.

Build Califony specific varient and etch a big C into the windshield so the car can never be sold outside the state.

henrybowman in reply to Gosport. | March 14, 2022 at 11:30 pm

Nobody ever does that. Less expensive for them to make all the cars California compliant and stick the rest of the country’s automobile owners with the nuisance.

Very little is ever mentioned about safety. Each time emissions are tightened or CAFE standards are increased, vehicles are made smaller and lighter. Air bags and crumple zones only go so far. Light little car vs.truck, the econo car loses.

Is there anyone in California who is considering a court challenge to the latest oppressive edict from EPA?

the climate-crisis-embracing, green-justice nominee said America could learn from California.

What not to do.

Note to California city dwellers: Please don’t move to the Old South. We’re doing quite well without your mental illnesses.
