Iceland to End All Covid Restrictions Friday

According to the Science™, Iceland did everything right.

At least 93% of adults were fully vaccinated and 85% having had a booster shot. The nation masked, quarantined, and tried to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Yet, Iceland now has the highest coronavirus case count in the world.

Iceland, with a population of some 368,000 people, has registered between 2,100 and 2,800 daily infections recently. More than 115,000 infections have been logged throughout the epidemic and 60 have died due to COVID-19.

According to my calculations, nearly one-third of all Icelanders have had a coronavirus infection, with an Infection fatality rate of a low 0.05%. Therefore, it should be no surprise to rational, science-embracing people that the nation’s public health officials are jettisoning all covid restrictions this week.

Iceland’s remaining restrictions, including a 200-person gathering limit, will be lifted on Thursday night at midnight. Health Minister Willum Þór Þórsson stated that those who are sick are still encouraged to stay at home.Willum announced the restrictions in an informal press conference just after 1:00 PM, following a cabinet meeting, where he says the decision was unanimous among ministers. Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir stated in the press conference that the lifting of restrictions is in line with recommendations from the Chief Epidemiologist. The current border regulation has been in effect since October 1, 2021 and will expire at midnight Thursday. Travellers will no longer be required to register prior to arrival or to present vaccination certificates. Unvaccinated travellers will no longer be required to be tested and quarantine for five days.

Intriguingly, the approach the Icelandic officials is to rely on the build-up of natural immunity in its population.

“Widespread societal resistance to COVID-19 is the main route out of the epidemic,” the health ministry said in a statement, citing infectious disease authorities.”To achieve this, as many people as possible need to be infected with the virus as the vaccines are not enough, even though they provide good protection against serious illness,” it added.

Big Pharma and Fauci are hardest hit.
