Canadian Truckers in Freedom Convoy Dismissed as ‘Fringe Minority’ with ‘Unacceptable Views’ by PM Trudeau

I recently reported that hundreds of Canadian truckers rolled out of Metro Vancouver on a cross-country convoy to the nation’s capital of Ottawa to protest the nation’s vaccine mandate for truck drivers.

The Freedom Convoy is now reported to be the largest truck-based rally in history.

“It’s 70 km long,” said Benjamin Dichter, spokesman for the Freedom Convoy 2022. “I have seen footage from an airplane. It’s impressive.”…“The largest parade of trucks consisted of 480 trucks and is achieved by Tahya Misr Fund (Egypt), in Cairo, Egypt, on 20 November 2020,” Guinness says on its website. “With a length of 7.5 km, Tahya Misr Fund was able to organize a parade of 480 trucks, amid the harsh weather and heavy rain, breaking the Guinness World Records title for the largest parade of trucks, which was achieved 16 years ago in the Netherlands with a parade size of 416 trucks. There are estimates the Canadian convoy could comprise 50,000 trucks from the West, East, and even from the United States. It’s difficult to speculate what will transpire in the days ahead.

It appears that the movement is gaining in popularity, especially after experiencing the heavy hand of big government.

Those supporting the convoy, for their part, say their coalition is not against vaccination, but that they oppose mandates and view them as a part of a larger trend of government overreach that has seemed to become more common during the pandemic. One long-haul trucker, Winnipeg’s Sunny Matharu, was driving his truck through Alberta on Monday toward Calgary when he came across a few protesters holding up signs along the road in support of the convoy that was snaking its way across the snowy province.Matharu said that while he’s vaccinated, some of his fellow long-haul truckers didn’t want to be and have threatened to permanently relocate to the United States if the trucking vaccine mandate isn’t rescinded by the federal government.“During the peak time of COVID, when COVID started, the truckers travelled all over,” he said. “Why didn’t they talk (about a vaccine mandate) that time? Because there was a need at the time and they wanted to use truckers? Wasn’t their life valuable that time?”

They got a verbal, back-handed slap by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who called the truckers “a fringe movement” with “unacceptable views”.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is decrying the “fringe” views among some of those who are supporting the trucker convoy making its way to Parliament Hill to protest COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other policies they feel infringe on their freedoms.“The small fringe minority of people who are on their way to Ottawa who are holding unacceptable views that they are expressing do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other, who know of that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values, as a country,” Trudeau said Wednesday.Answering questions about the coming protest on Parliament Hill, Trudeau said that Canadians who have stepped up to “do the right thing,” by getting vaccinated are the ones protecting “the freedoms and the rights of Canadians to get back to the things we love to do.”

The truckers are also being slapped around by Big Tech, as GoFundMe has frozen access to more than $4.7 million in funds raised by the truckers.

“We require that fundraisers be transparent about the flow of funds and have a clear plan for how those funds will be spent. In this case, we are in touch with the organizer to verify that information,” Rachel Hollis, a spokeswoman for the crowdfunding platform, said in an email.”Funds will be safely held until the organizer is able to provide the documentation to our team about how funds will be properly distributed.”As of Tuesday afternoon, funds were raised from 61,100 donors, according to the GoFundMe page of the “Freedom Convoy.”

A chill wind is blowing from Canada, and it isn’t part of any Arctic Express.
