Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been a leading voice in the fight against Critical Race Theory in education. He is now introducing his latest effort in this battle. It’s called the “Stop W.O.K.E. Act.”
Taking action on this issue is not only the right thing to do, it’s smart politics. This was one of the key issues for Glenn Youngkin’s recent victory in Virginia.

Teaching “critical race theory” in Florida’s K-12 public schools could soon be illegal.
Gov. Ron DeSantis continued his fight against the controversial teachings on Wednesday morning with the announcement of new legislation that would keep the theory out of classrooms.
DeSantis introduced the “Stop W.O.K.E. Act” during a rally-style event in Central Florida.
DeSantis said the legislation would put into law the Florida Department of Education’s prohibition on “critical race theory” in K through 12 schools that was approved in June.
Critical race theory, or CRT, is an academic concept that looks at how racism has led to laws and other policies that continue to negatively affect communities of color in America.
I’m amazed that the report includes this line:
Local school districts said they’ve never taught Critical Race Theory, which is a graduate-level course of study.
We hear this claim repeatedly, as we point out that CRT principles are embedded in school curricula across the country. There are multiple examples of it.
Jeremiah Poff of the Washington Examiner has more details:
Progressive activists and Democratic politicians have insisted the academic framework is not taught in public schools despite substantial evidence to the contrary and say efforts to ban it are attempts to whitewash American history and avoid teaching students about racism.
“Our legislation would defund any money from K-12 to higher ed going to CRT,” DeSantis said at the press conference.
“I view the wokeness as a form of cultural Marxism,” DeSantis continued. “They want to tear at the fabric of our society and our culture, really things we’ve taken for granted, like the ability of parents to direct the upbringing of their kids.”
“No taxpayer dollars should be used to teach our kids to hate our country or to hate each other,” he added.
If adopted, the legislative proposal would expand on the governor’s directive to the Florida Department of Education earlier this year that prohibited the inclusion of critical race theory in public schools. The new law also treats businesses that require critical race theory training as maintaining a “hostile work environment” under Florida law.

Just so you’re aware, the left is responding to this by claiming that DeSantis is banning teachers from teaching students about racism, a blatant lie:

Here in Florida the governor and legislature can even go further and that is to break the back of the Teacher’s Union
Then, they should.
A huge percentage of people in education are not salvageable and need to be banished from the teaching profession.

My attitude is that if you are teaching children to evaluate everything they experience through a ‘lens’ of race, it is disingenuous to pretend that’s not Critical Thinking grounded on race. And they do because I have been on the professional development webinars and seen the lesson plans for K-12.
They are sneaky. They want to brainwash your kids.
They gas light parents.
I do not think this can NOT be fixed.
They people are relentless ideologues.

The government schools cannot be reformed because brainwashed teachers are taught to hide what their true motivation is.
Need to start firing the worst offenders – NO TOLLERANCE POLICY. Any political or racial indoctrination must result in disciplinary action.
Teachers Unions must be disbanded.
Otherwise, teachers will just lie low for a year or two until they get a new set of teachers / parents who are not as a aware.

They’re technically correct – they don’t teach Critical Race Theory, in the same way they don’t teach Marxist economics. They implement both by embedding the concepts in every subject. That allows them to play these kinds of word games.
It’s no longer working, and increasingly parents are learning that teachers and school boards are the enemy and are lying.
I think you are treating the word “Theory’ as if you are in college and we are discussing facts. There is a Theory throughout education now called Ascending from the Abstract to the Concrete. It hypes students who have “Practical Rationality’ that is not about having a body of facts at their command. Instead, they are offered concepts like race or Inequities or Climate Change and asked to apply them to their real world experiences.
In practical rationality, the conceptual level is the theory and the concrete is the practical. The learning tasks that are at the heart of what students are asked to do, apart from the ubiquitous Project-Based Learning, are all designed around practicing Practical Rationality and Ascending from the Theoretical to the Practical. For the K-12 student, then, ‘theories’ are those so-called Conceptual Understandings that get practiced until they habitually guide the students’ ‘sensemaking’ about the world. Because the concepts are prescribed and ultimately the same for all students, a common body of tools of sensemaking is being created.
Unfortunately, just because it is tied to the real world and guiding perception doesn’t mean anything is factually true. Useful mistaken impressions that motivate desired actions work just fine when the goal is social transformation and justifying the necessity for it.
This has reached the point that I am voting against all public school bids for funding..

Boy, by the second full day I was so tired of hearing about slavery in every museum, theater, National Cemetery, I was just so disappointed.
I wish I had been there before Obama. 90% of the civil workers were black.
You may have missed it: the air and space museum on the Mall has a cutaway diorama (?) from the 1950s on display next to a portion of a Douglas airliner. The tent card describing it was very clear to point out that everyone depicted in the cutaway was white.
I walked over to the volunteer office, and pulled out a $20 bill I WAS donating. I explained that the $20 would remain in my wallet because of the museum dragging race into subject matter where it did not belong.

But I didn’t see that, spent almost a week and you just can’t see it all in that time
I wanted to go back, in fact, I wanted to be there in Jan 6 but I couldn’t get anyone to go with me.

They say it’s not being taught and they also say banning CRT will ban teaching about racism and slavery. If CRT is teaching racism and slavery then it IS being taught.
These woke-ists are pure evil. They lie constantly. Their whole program is based on lies.

I was familiar with those rules changes, as well as what DeSantis’ office put out in summary, so I am bemused about how so many people in the usual social media sites starting flipping their lid over this despite not knowing what it even said beyond some vague notion of this being contrary to the dictates of Critical Race Theory.
