Duke U. Administration Intervenes After Student Govt. Denies Recognition to Pro-Israel Group

It’s a good thing that the administration stepped in here. The left’s disdain for Israel is bizarre.

Duke University pro-Israel group denied recognition by student government, admin overrules
The Duke University administration will provide support to a pro-Israel student organization originally denied official recognition by the student government.
In a statement released by Duke University President Vincent E. Price and Provost Sally Kornbluth Nov. 24, the two said the university has found ways for the group to receive financial and program support without formal recognition by the student government.
“The university has identified options for SSI to secure financial and programmatic support,” the statement says, referring to Students Supporting Israel.
The statement also made clear that the decision to deny the SSI chapter formal recognition is “independent of” the university.
“To be clear, the actions of Duke Student Government are independent of, and not determined by or sanctioned by, the university,” the administration’s statement added.
Additionally, the Duke University Office of Institutional Equity and the Office of Conduct and Community Standards is reviewing the Duke Student Government’s decision to determine if students were discriminated against based on national origin and religion.
The Duke Student Government senate originally approved the Students Supporting Israel group as a registered student organization on Nov. 10. But student government President Christina Wang vetoed it, stating the group “singled out” a student on social media.

Why, again, did anyone ever think it was a good idea to let students ‘govern’ anything? What idiotic worship of youth and ignorance brought us the concept of “student government”? The only thing it has achieved is an unfounded concept that students have something to contribute in a situation in which they patently do not.
When I attended college, there were several things to which I paid no attention. One was sports. Second was student government. Third was, I had virtually nothing to do with anything of the student union. I understand the desire of having a building where students can go for a snack, or a place to study, or converse. But as for gameplaying, on both sports and government levels, I just don’t understand the purpose for it. I was there to go to school.
I think it was the same impulse that brought us the concept of student orchestras.
The difference is, the school orchestra doesn’t get to oppress anyone who didn’t voluntarily buy tickets.
Reminds me when the newly commissioned student-run women’s center attempted to evict Women for Life… (because pro-life and/or Republican women aren’t, well, women, apparently).

Decisions by student governments like this are more proof that the inmates are running the asylums
