CDC: Global Measles Outbreaks Possible after 22M Missed Vaccinations Due To COVID Restrictions
Unintended, but predicable, consequences.
The world will be reeling from the unintended consequences of the long-term implementation of COVID-restrictions, especially those impacting access to routine medical care.
Now the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning that there is a possibility of significant measles outbreaks around the world because an estimated 22 million infants missed measles vaccines because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We must act now to strengthen disease surveillance systems and close immunity gaps, before travel and trade return to pre-pandemic levels, to prevent deadly measles outbreaks and mitigate the risk of other vaccine-preventable diseases,” Kevin Cain, global immunization director for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a prepared statement issued Wednesday.
Specifically, disease detection and diagnostics diverted to support COVID-19 responses, coupled with large numbers of unvaccinated children and persistent global pockets of measles outbreaks, have increased the “likelihood of measles-related deaths and serious complications in children,” Cain added.
Just for comparison:
– The death rate of measles was as high as 2.83 deaths per 1000 reported measles cases in one study.
– In one study of COVID-19, for those under 18, there was a rate reported of about 2 for every million people in this age range.
The vaccination rates had been plunging in this country before the pandemic, which is a contributing factor in the new CDC assessment. And while the number of measles cases fell in 2020, the numbers will increase as life returns to post-COVID normal.
“Evidence suggests we are likely seeing the calm before the storm as the risk of outbreaks continues to grow around the world,” said Kate O’Brien, director of WHO’s department of immunisation, vaccines, and biologicals.
“It’s critical that countries vaccinate as quickly as possible against covid-19, but this requires new resources so that it does not come at the cost of essential immunisation programmes. Routine immunisation must be protected and strengthened; otherwise, we risk trading one deadly disease for another.”
Ephrem Tekle Lemango, associate director for immunisation at Unicef, said, “Even before the pandemic, we were seeing how even small pockets of low measles immunisation coverage could fuel unprecedented outbreaks, including in countries where the disease had been considered eradicated. And now covid-19 is creating widening gaps in coverage at a pace we haven’t seen in decades.
Kate O’Brien, director of the WHO’s immunization department, wants to reprioritize the childhood vaccinations that actually prevent disease.
“Routine immunisation must be protected and strengthened; otherwise, we risk trading one deadly disease for another.”
“Large numbers of unvaccinated children, outbreaks of measles, and disease detection and diagnostics diverted to support Covid-19 responses are factors that increase the likelihood of measles-related deaths and serious complications in children,” said Kevin Cain, the CDC’s global immunisation director.
Suppose there are severe outbreaks of measles, mumps, or other diseases for which effective vaccines are available. In that case, I assert that the blame will belong to the fear-mongering, COVID-vaccine-obsessed bureaucrats who have been allowed to run amok since March 2020.
The consequences of “15-days-to-flatten-the=curve” may have been unintended, but they indeed were predictable.

Duh!
$15+ BILLION BUDGET FOR CDC – FOR WHAT ?
CDC is the real threat to children. Our country spends over 15 billion for this agency to protect public health. The average worker gets over $90,000 + perfect government benefits. They are supposed to hire the best and brightest to protect America – but they have instead become like all other government agencies – a cesspool of mediocrity.. But their performance during the pandemic has been horrible.
The American people should FIRE them and start over.
They are just corrupt, political suck ups.
22 million missed getting a vaccine that actually works to get a vaccine that does not work other than to build drug company profits,
And even then it’s more fear porn. You’re talking about common childhood diseases with perfect recovery rates way better than the common flu. Rubella is dangerous during pregnancy, but the world has about a decade of lag time to make up the missed kiddie shots before that becomes an issue.
Maybe a part of this “Green New Deal” and “Build Back Better” nonsense is depopulation?
When your strategy for controlling the populace is “always Covid”, something is bound to get lost in the shuffle.
A consequence of a lockdown? Say it ain’t so.
In an only slightly related topic: NASA will miss the planned 2024 manned lunar landing by several years (at least):
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-10204429/U-S-watchdog-forecasts-NASA-not-launch-human-moon-mission-2025.html
Say what you will about the Soviet Union – they were the first to put humans in space and did some surprising good work in the area of manned space stations. By contrast American Communists have trouble getting a simple Obamacare website working.
The Biden* junta – the entire Federal behemoth, in fact – messed up a lunar trip that we did over half a century ago with “primitive” equipment. Thanks to the genocidal racists running our universities and major corporations soon we will have trouble even making vaccines (and keeping planes from crashing, and preventing the collapse of buildings and bridges, keeping electricity on, etc.).
We are entering a new “Grapes of Wrath” chapter where “no jobs” signs will be replaced with “Out of Order” signs.
Astrophysics is rayciss.
“Build Back Better…..without those pesky Trumpers”
Can we call it genocide yet?
Another factor unmentioned in the story, that will exacerbate the problem: The government’s and the Democrats’ tech industry allies’ heavy-handed suppression of all skepticism about the Wuhan vaccine will drive more people into the paranoid anti-vaxxer camp. So will their irresponsible use of the “anti-vaxxer” label for Wuhan vaccine skeptics; some portion of these will start thinking that maybe the actual anti-vaxxers have a point, and they’ve just been suffering the same crap for much longer.
Those guys really are kooks, but how are we to know that, now that we can no longer trust the CDC, the medical community, the science press, or anyone else? People will fall into the trap Carl Sagan pointed out: “They laughed at Galileo. They laughed at the Wrights. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown”.
And so we will see measles and other dangerous and easily preventable diseases surge, because more people have been made afraid of vaccines.
Is this yet another signal that we’re going to be treated to another round of fear porn so they can pimp even more vaccines to enrich the pharmaceutical companies? First it was the COVID vaccine, now Measles, Mumps, and Rubella, and they’re starting feed the panic over the yearly flu shots, too. How long do you think it will be until there are calls to make flu shots mandatory jabs for everybody to “participate in society?”
With the CDC, FDA, most of the medical industry, including the medical and science press, corrupted by the pharmaceutical giants, how can you be sure “those guys really are kooks?” Who can be trusted to tell you the truth? Seems there’s an awful lot of “fully-vaccinated” people around the world getting sick and dying, either from the vaccine or of the disease the vaccine is supposed to protect them against. Effect may not definitively indicate cause, but at some point study and investigation is warranted.
This medical tyranny needs to stop now or it’ll go on forever.
No, it won’t be fear pr0n, it’ll be genuine fear, from genuine diseases, that are now being suppressed by vaccines that are safe and effective, but will no longer be.
No, it’s fear porn.
In my day, nobody “feared” measles or mumps, and only pregnant women feared rubella.
To the contrary, they meant a welcome week off from school.
Many of us were disappointed that we could get each one only once.
I wondered about milhouse too
Hope he’s doing OK
Whether I agree or not, I always read his comments and appreciate his insight
HI, Milhouse. I’ve not read this website in a while, recently came back a week or so ago. In the past I find maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of the comments are crazy and 1/4 or 1/3 sane. Of the sane comments yours are reliably the most logical and correct by far. Like by FAR. I hadn’t seen you comment since I returned to reading the website 1-2 weeks ago and was worried as to why. I actually emailed the administrator to see if he (?) knew why. Glad to see you are commenting again! Chag Sameyach! Keith
I agree. I don’t always agree with Milhouse, but he makes me sharpen my arguments.
I don’t remember measles etc. as being a concern, growing up before the vaccines. You got the disease, recovered and were immune for life.
What’s different today is the news hysteria business model and also if you’re not immune the diseases are much more serious when you’re older, so you want to get the immunity somehow.
It’s the tre chic method of enslaving people.
MMR vaccine has been around for probably 50 years. Measles Mumps and Rubella were three of the greatest scourges of all of mankind, particularly the young, killing and leaving crippled millions. The vaccine has been out long enough that we know its safety record which is that it is safe. No rational person doesn’t get the MMR vaccine. IN contrast, the WuFlu vaccine has been out for a year or two. We have some idea of its short term safety record but it simply has not been out to allow for medium or long term risks. There is no comparison in how deadly the former is compared to the latter and no comparison in knowing how safe is the former vaccine compared to the latter. People who do not take the MMR vaccine are simply uninformed. People who don’t take the Covid vaccine often have valid reasons. Apples and oranges.
Don’t get me wrong. A vaccine that works, even for a disease that “ain’t that much,” is still worth giving your kids. I grew up in a world without sunblock, too (all we had was “tanning oil”), and I sure would have appreciated that.
I have zero issue with the MMR. I’m also quite religious about the rabies and distemper. But I’d be much more worried about global shortages of the latter two than the former.
According to the CDC, the peak fatality rate among the 4 million children per year that caught measles in the decade before introduction of the vaccine in 1963 was 0.0125%. In other words, 99.9875% of the infected survived. Measles may have been a scourge in poor countries, but its impact in the USA was small compared to other causes of childhood death and disability.
Or you died or were seriously injured and nobody who wasn’t already your friend or relative knew about it.
People didn’t worry about it. They were just diseases every kid got. I didn’t know anybody who died from it, which is how the radar worked in those days. If you knew even one, that would be just bad luck as far as you’re concerned.
Modern anxieties are cranked way up because it’s profitable to crank them up for the organizers of anxiety, namely the news.
KIds died. You were lucky not to know one. But your doctor knew, and your parents probably knew. Yes, it was a disease every kid got, but there was nothing to be done about it, so there was no point in worrying specifically about it; it was just part of the general worry parents had about their children dying of all sorts of diseases, which was a thing that happened to everyone. There was scarcely an extended family that hadn’t lost a child.
Human probabilities are about what happens in your neighborhood. The news works by moving everything that happens in the world into your backyard, to hook onto that backyard judgment. That’s the trick that enables them to profit from anxieties.
If a single child dies, we’ll move it into your backyard, regardless of actual risk to you. It will seem important.
The claim that the news makes that’s never right is that they know what’s important.
School shooting is the favored method of media child death these days, though. They’ll make that seem important as part of it.
The point , however, is that measles does kill, and before the vaccine was available it did kill many children. The fact that you were unaware of it doesn’t change that.
Consider that many people still don’t know anyone who died of the Wuhan disease. That doesn’t make those who did die of it any less dead. I can tell you that during that horrible month when it was running rampant, if we had been allowed to attend funerals I would personally have attended about a dozen, for people I knew or whose families I know.
And the MMR vaccine is only about 90% effective, so people refusing to vaccinate their children are endangering other children, especially those who can’t be vaccinated. It’s not a huge danger, but it is significant. And it’s orders of magnitude higher than any risk from the vaccine.
The Wuhan vaccine is a completely different story.
There is but one way to totally eliminate hazards to safety according to OSHA, and that is to eliminate the source of hazard.
I’ll accept the concept of elimination regarding Covid when big pharma eradicates it’s cash cows of the common cold.
After or because? There is evidence that the vaccine(s) interfere with memory immunity, and may disrupt long-term immune system function a la AIDS.
Someone needs to pull the CDC off the world stage with a huge long hook a la Vaudeville.
Only the ones with a cord loop on the end work for snakes.
Is this just more fear porn? Screaming “covid” is having less and less effectiveness, so perhaps a new bogeyman needs creating.
No, it isn’t. Measles is a real threat.
