Biden and Allies Insist He Will Run for Reelection in 2024

With Biden’s poll numbers sinking and questions about his poll numbers rising, people are beginning to wonder if he will run for reelection in 2024.

As of this weekend, Biden is 79 years old meaning he will be well over 80 in 2024. Will Democrats actually run a candidate who is over 80 years old?

Biden and people in his circle are insisting it will happen.

The Washington Post reports:

Biden and aides tell allies he is running in 2024 amid growing Democratic fearsPresident Biden and members of his inner circle have reassured allies in recent days that he plans to run for reelection in 2024, as they take steps to deflect concern about the 79-year-old president’s commitment to another campaign and growing Democratic fears of a coming Republican return to power. The efforts come as the broader Democratic community has become increasingly anxious after a bruising six-month stretch that has seen Biden’s national approval rating plummet more than a dozen points, into the low 40s, amid growing concerns about inflation, Democratic infighting in Washington and faltering public health efforts to move beyond the covid-19 pandemic. The message is aimed in part at tamping down the assumption among many Democrats that Biden may not seek reelection given his age and waning popularity, while also effectively freezing the field for Vice President Harris and other potential presidential hopefuls.“The only thing I’ve heard him say is he’s planning on running again,” said former senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), a Biden friend. “And I’m glad he is.”

Stephen L. Miller recently wrote that Biden is governing like a man who knows he is only going to serve one term, which would explain quite a few things.

From The Spectator:

Joe Biden’s sacrificial presidencyThe worst kept secret in Washington, DC is that Joe Biden is a one-term president — whether he knows it or not. This weekend, palace intrigue stories from Politico and CNN pitted Vice President Kamala Harris against Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The kids are fighting over Grandpa Joe’s inheritance before he’s even cold.Biden doesn’t acknowledge this. He’s signaled multiple times that he intends to run for a second term in 2024. He has been trying to capture the White House for over thirty years. He’s not just going to give that up willingly as he managed to go from party punchline to party patriarch in the span of one election. But to believe the choice is up to him is to believe that his staggering fall in poll numbers is imaginary. It’s to believe that Biden is not facing the largest electoral wipeout in Congress in decades, or that those behind his presidency are not going to pull him aside — particularly Jill Biden, who has been extremely protective of her husband. It’s to wave away his advanced age and possible cognitive decline. Joe Biden is a dead man walking, electorally speaking. Perhaps he always was.

What happens if Biden wants to run again but members of his party want someone else to step in and take the reins?

Things could get a little awkward.
