“Mammas don’t let your (male) babies grow up to attend a woke liberal arts college”

“Mammas don’t let your (male) babies grow up to attend a woke liberal arts college”

“Young men in institutions like mine are mercilessly stereotyped.”

The war on masculinity in academia is real.

From an interesting essay by Alexander Riley at First Things:

What’s in Store for Your Sons

In the 1970s, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson playfully warned mothers about the downsides of the cowboy business: “Mammas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys / Don’t let ‘em pick guitars and drive them old trucks / Make ‘em be doctors and lawyers and such.” That song was written before today’s full-blooded assault on masculinity in American culture. It was a time when you could poke a little fun at traditional male identity while still honoring it.

I have been a professor at Bucknell University for twenty years, and alas, I find myself singing that tune with new lyrics: “Mammas don’t let your (male) babies grow up to attend a woke liberal arts college.” It is my considered view that a parent with the best interests of a male child at heart should be intensely concerned about what he is likely to experience at a school like the one in which I work.

Young men in institutions like mine are mercilessly stereotyped. They are compelled to unquestioningly acquiesce to fundamentally anti-male social justice doctrines that are in the process of becoming the raison d’être of such institutions. They are told throughout their four years at college that a male who unapologetically embraces his nature commits an eternal offense. Unless he agrees to fundamentally change himself to suit the desires of his moral betters, he is to be despised by the righteous and becomes a legitimate target for repression.

I have heard people in important positions in my university talk unguardedly (they believe that everyone shares their perspective) with disdain for white male students who are universally assumed to benefit from “privilege” and harbor racist sentiments.

For many years, females have outnumber the male graduates. Recent statistics show that about 57% of graduates are women. But I am unaware of a single program to increase the number of men in colleges and universities. Yet there are many programs to increase the number of women, especially in STEM fields.

At some point it is time to call this what it is, “misandry.”

Even in courses where females outnumber males, professors and lecturers will sometimes point out all the scholarships available to females and other ‘disadvantaged minorities’. Being an actual minority i.e. male, doesn’t offer any benefits.

Misandry is the reality, misogyny is still what’s claimed however.

Someone is getting it. Watch the new black comedy, as in black humor, as in “still funny” stuff, “The Chair” on Netflix. Absolutely sidesplitting, and true.

It is the TV show that no “woke” school wants you to watch. Title IX will never be the same. 😉

My liberal arts uni was one of the last to go woke….and now we are starting to go broke. Funny how that worked out. The powers in charge just can’t figure out why enrollment is down even lower than expected from the pandemic.

At one point, we offered something that the big Virginia unis did not…a place free from the madness. We are no longer offering that, so the conservatives in the state are just saying might as well go to a big woke school if I have to do deal with this nonsense.

Glad my son quit school and is now working as an electrician. He makes good money, is happy, and student loan debt.

Instead of going directly to college , why not

(1) master another language? Begin on-line, then immerse yourself overseas — your choice, either in a work situation, or a college. Or both.

(2) become employable in an entry-level occupation — e.g., teaching English as a second language (TEFL or TESOL etc.), or learn to wait tables/tend bar… so that you can support yourself while living overseas immersed in your target language.

While your peers are doing whatever they’re doing … you will be acquiring useful, valuable skill sets.

Attending college in a foreign country is generally much more cost- effective than attending college in America.

👍

Don’t let your female children go there, either. Why would you protect your male children, but not your female children? They don’t need their minds ruined and souls warped by that garbage. Every sensible parent should refuse to pay for those colleges flat out. Starve them out of existence.

Not all liberal arts colleges are woke. Wabash College in Indiana is all-male, I can guarantee you they’re not woke.
