MSNBC’s Joy Reid is watching her ratings crater in the post-Trump media landscape. Much like her MSNBC colleague Nicolle Wallace and CNN’s Brian Stelter, Reid’s appeal is not the same without Trump to bash night after night.
In Reid’s case, the numbers are nuclear. She recently finished behind eight shows on CNN. Oof.
Brian Flood reports at FOX News:
Joy Reid’s MSNBC show has worst week ever, sets viewership lows in multiple categoriesMSNBC’s “The ReidOut” with Joy Reid had its worst week ever from June 14-18, setting new viewership lows among both total viewers and the key news demographic coveted by advertisers.”The ReidOut” averaged 1.2 million total viewers for its smallest audience since the far-left program began in July 2020, when the controversial host was chosen to fill the vacancy left by Chris Matthews’ sudden retirement.Reid’s struggling program also had its worst turnout among the crucial news demo of adults age 25-54, averaging only 149,000 viewers in the category that helps keep the lights on. “The ReidOut” finished the week as the No. 29 program in cable news among demo viewers, finishing behind 15 different Fox News offerings, five different MSNBC shows, and even eight programs from rival liberal network CNN.Every program that airs on Fox News weekdays from 6 a.m. through 1 a.m. attracted a larger demo audience than Reid’s show.”Fox News Primetime,” which is Reid’s direct time-slot competition, averaged 1.5 million viewers and 238,000 among the key demo to top the MSNBC show by 60%.
Bobby Burack of Outkick suggests one of the possible reasons Reid is tanking is her fixation on race:
Since Trump’s departure from the White House, Reid has calculated that everyone and everything in America is racist. Most recently, Reid called everyone associated with the country’s school system racist. Even the schools that preach Critical Race Theory? You bet. According to Reid, CRT doesn’t go far enough because grades K-12 teach “Confederate Race Theory.”“Currently, most K-12 students already learn a kind of Confederate Race Theory, whereby the Daughters of the Confederacy long ago imposed a version of history wherein slavery was not so bad and had nothing to do with the Civil War, and lynchings and violence never happened,” Reid says…Reid also claimed that red states are keeping black people alive only so that they cook white people’s steaks. Based on what? There’s no use asking since there are never any answers. So, please, don’t ask.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald has been one of MSNBC’s harshest critics. He commented on Twitter:
Greenwald’s point about YouTubers is especially relevant. Just look at Tim Pool. His numbers consistently dwarf those of Reid and other MSNBC hosts. At what point does the network cut her loose?
