Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, who is now running for governor again for some reason, just gave America an excellent reminder that when it comes to big lies: some are accepted, and some are not.
McAuliffe recently smeared his Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin for pushing the ‘Big Lie’ about the 2020 election. It is odd because McAuliffe still believes Al Gore won in 2000.
Guy Benson writes at Townhall:
Flashback: Terry McAuliffe, Smearing Opponent on ‘Big Lie,’ Insisted Democrats ‘Won’ 2000 ElectionWhen Republican Glenn Youngkin emerged as his party’s nominee for governor in Virginia last month, the likely Democratic nominee – former DNC Chair and ex-governor Terry McAuliffe – “welcomed” him to the race with a smear. Youngkin, McAuliffe claimed is an “extreme” member of the GOP who believes the “big lie,” i.e. that Joe Biden didn’t truly win the 2020 election. It’s an extraordinary accusation that would have potency in the blue-trending purple state of Virginia, especially in vote-rich and Trump-hostile northern Virginia. And it seems like a central attack line McAuliffe intends to employ ahead of November’s general election:
Also, see McAuliffe’s tweet below:
Benson interviewed Glenn Youngkin on his radio show, and Youngkin conceded that Biden won the 2020 election, as much as he wished it wasn’t so. Therefore, McAuliffe’s accusation is untrue.
McAuliffe, on the other hand, has still not admitted that Democrats lost the 2000 election:
Houston Keene reports at FOX News:
In an article from 2002 about the Voting Rights Institute McAuliffe founded as DNC chair, the former governor claimed voters in Florida were “disenfranchised” during the 2000 election.”If I ever allow what happened in Florida to occur again, I’ll be thrown out as chairman of this party,” McAuliffe said. “I mean, there’s no question that people were disenfranchised.”McAuliffe also claimed in a 2001 interview with Black Entertainment Television that the Democrats “won the campaign” in 2000 but “didn’t get the prize,” and that there would be a re-re-recount that would swing Florida for former Vice President Al Gore by 25,000 votes.”Folks, you know it, I know it, they know it,” McAuliffe said at the Democratic Business Council’s 20th-anniversary dinner in 2001. “We won that election.””And let’s never forget it,” he added.McAuliffe’s campaign did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
I bet many high-ranking Democrat officials still believe to this day that Al Gore won in 2000.
I bet there are a lot of prominent Democrats who believe Trump was not legitimately elected. How do I know this? Because they’ve said it.
Democrats spent four years smearing Trump as illegitimate while pushing a conspiracy theory about Trump and Russia, but now accuse others of pushing a ‘big lie’ for questioning Biden’s 2020 win in any way. Such talk can even get you banned on social media.
As the saying goes, Democrats wouldn’t have any standards at all if it weren’t for double standards.
