California Reveals New System to Provide Digital COVID Vaccine Records

California has launched a COVID-19 vaccine verification system that provides digital replicas of the traditional wallet-size paper cards.

The state’s politicos say that the digital system will make it easier for residents to supply proof of immunization if needed.

…“We’re looking for this to be rolled out to whoever wants to use them,” said Amy Tong, the state’s chief information officer and director of the California Department of Technology.Everyone who’s been inoculated against COVID-19 should have received a white paper card from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that details where and when they got their shots, as well as their brand of vaccine. The new electronic option provides the same information, as well as a QR code that can be scanned to confirm its authenticity.

Gov. Gavin Newsom, however, assures everyone it isn’t a vaccine passport.

“It’s not a passport, it’s not a requirement, it’s just the ability now to have an electronic version of that paper version, so you’ll hear more about that in the next couple of days,” he said.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) indicated that the system’s design provides a backup to the vaccination card.

In order to obtain the digital card, individuals must provide their name, date of birth, a cell phone number or email used to register for the vaccine and a PIN code. Once that process is completed, registrants will receive the COVID-19 vaccination information listed on their paper proof of vaccination — and a scannable QR code to prove that the vaccine record is authentic. An FAQ on the site also promises privacy, assuring those concerned that “only you can decide how and if you want to share your record with others.” And for anyone concerned that this is a vaccine passport, the FAQ also ensures that the state “will not be implementing a mandatory passport system.” There’s also more information on how to correct the information and how to find a missing record on the site.

I will point out that the same politicians assured us the lockdown would last only two weeks to “flatten the curve.” I, personally, am skeptical.
