Legal Insurrection reported in February 2020 that a lab leak in Wuhan, China, could have been the origin point for the coronavirus pandemic. But in May 2020, the elite media derided any mention of this possibility in its quest to undermine President Donald Trump.
For example, CNN Politics ran an article boldly proclaiming: Anthony Fauci just crushed Donald Trump’s theory on the origins of the coronavirus –
Enter Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease and perhaps the single most prominent doctor in the world at the moment. In an interview with National Geographic posted on Monday night, Fauci was definitive about the origins of the virus which has sickened more than a million Americans and killed more than 68,000:”If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats and what’s out there now, [the scientific evidence] is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated … Everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that [this virus] evolved in nature and then jumped species.”Now, before we play the game of “he said, he said” remember this: Only one of these two people is a world-renowned infectious disease expert. And it’s not Donald Trump.
I spent months online scouring for news from respected media sources to find reports related to lab-leak scenarios. Indeed, evidence from the US State Department and other sources indicated that a facility in Wuhan, China, was very likely ground zero in the pandemic.
Now the tide is turning on the media narrative. Per a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report, three researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick enough in November 2019 that they sought hospital care.
The details of the reporting go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the final days of the Trump administration, which said that several researchers at the lab, a center for the study of coronaviruses and other pathogens, became sick in autumn 2019 “with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness.”The disclosure of the number of researchers, the timing of their illnesses and their hospital visits come on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organization’s decision-making body, which is expected to discuss the next phase of an investigation into Covid-19’s origins….“The information that we had coming from the various sources was of exquisite quality. It was very precise. What it didn’t tell you was exactly why they got sick,” [an official familiar with the investigation] said, referring to the researchers.
Trump may not have had a degree in epidemiology, but he had access to all the gathered intelligence. Therefore, the President’s assertions about the origin should have been given significant weight rather than dismissed with snarky headlines.
If this back-tracking by the American press isn’t frustrating enough, now Fauci is reversing course and saying a lab-leak is possible…after, concisely, and succinctly telling Americans who trusted him it wasn’t. Fauci crushes his theory on the origins of the coronavirus.
Fauci, the nation’s leading expert in infectious diseases, explained his uncertainty during a PolitiFact event on May 11 entitled: United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking.’There’s a lot of cloudiness around the origins of COVID-19 still, so I wanted to ask, are you still confident that it developed naturally?’ PolitiFact managing editor Katie Sanders asked Fauci.’No actually,’ he replied. ‘I am not convinced about that, I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened.’
PolitiFact’s “Festival of Fact-Checking” is certainly the appropriate place for a clown who wants attention.
My fury at our media burns with the heat of 1 million suns. But, after having my social posts throttled and hidden under “fact checks,” with direct threats to my accounts, I have no intention of forgetting the destructive disinformation campaign that was offered up as COVID-truth by the press. Truly, it makes me wonder exactly how many more fact-reversals related to the coronavirus we will be treated to.
