University of Cincinnati will not mandate COVID-19 vaccine for studentsThe University of Cincinnati is the latest university to announce it will not mandate the COVID-19 vaccination for students, faculty or staff.Although a vaccination is highly recommended, university officials said they will not mandate the vaccine for individuals to return to campus.Thousand of college students in the Cincinnati area have already received their shots at mass vaccination sites across the area.”I got the vaccine two weeks ago. I got the Johnson & Johnson one,” said Luke Bergman, a freshman.Other students are waiting to get home for the summer before getting vaccinated.”I have not gotten the vaccine yet because they stopped offering the Johnson & Johnson. I knew I would be leaving in a couple weeks so I felt it was better for me to get it at CVS or Walgreens,” said freshman Ian Eberts. “If I have to get the two I don’t want to have to come down here to get it.”Recognizing not everyone is on board, Bergman says most of his friends haven’t had the vaccine. But for him, the shot is a green light to see grandparents.”I think it’s fine that (the university) is not requiring it,” he said. “I understand why people are afraid to get it. And at some point hopefully it’ll be required, but until more research and information is out about it, I think it’s best not to be required.”Eberts said he looks forward to a more normal college experience, adding freshman year was less social and isolating.
