YouGov Poll: British Public Turns Against Meghan, Harry Following Racism Allegations

Public opinion in the United Kingdom has turned against Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle after they made racism allegation against the Royal Family. The popularity of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has now dropped to their lowest level ever after their highly-publicized interview with Oprah Winfrey last weekend, the latest YouGov poll shows.

Speaking to Oprah, Meghan made bombshell allegations that painted the British press and the monarchy as bigoted and racist. Meghan and Harry made conflicting comments in the interview about an unnamed member of the Royal Family raising ‘concerns’ about their mixed-race child’s skin tone.

The Buckingham Palace has denied Meghan and Harry’s outlandish allegations, with Prince William pointedly telling reporters on Thursday: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

The British public seems to have sided with the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family in face of Meghan’s claims and grievances. “Public opinion of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has fallen to a record low, with attitudes towards Prince Harry more negative than positive for the first time,” the UK’s Daily Telegraph reported on Friday.

Prince Harry’s popularity took a big hit, with 48 percent of British people viewing him negatively for the first time. Meghan, who already had a net negative rating in the UK, is now disliked by 58 percent of the public, the poll found.

Reuters, on Friday, reported the finding of the YouGov poll:

The popularity of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan has tumbled in Britain and has never been lower following their explosive interview with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey, according to a poll on Friday. (…)The tell-all interview has plunged the 1,000-year-old monarchy into its greatest crisis this century, and according to a YouGov poll, the standing of the two royals has also taken a big hit in the aftermath. It found 48% percent of the 1,664 respondents had a negative attitude of Harry compared to 45% with a positive view, the first time his net favourability rating had been negative, and a fall of 15 points from a week earlier.Meanwhile, only three in 10 people had a positive view of Meghan, while 58% had a negative opinion. As with other polls conducted since the interview, there was a divide between generations, with a majority of those aged 18 to 24 liking Harry and Meghan and those over 65 overwhelmingly having negative feelings towards them. The only other member of the family to see their popularity fall was Harry’s father, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles. The survey said 42% now had a negative view of him compared to 49% with a positive opinion. (…)That compared to the 94-year-old queen, who was liked by 80%, and Harry’s elder brother and his wife Kate, who were popular with three-quarters of respondents.

Meghan and Harry are apparently upset at Buckingham Palace for clipping some of their privileges after they abandoned their royal duties and moved to California. The couple moved into a Beverly Hills mansion amid attempts to kick-start Meghan’s failing acting career.

The reason Meghan is increasingly disliked by the British public has lot to do with her divisive left-wing politics. She has shown very little regard for royal traditions and British public sentiment. The the newly-minted Duchess publicly supported the pro-EU Remain campaign ahead of the 2016 Brexit referendum. “If EU leave me now, you take away the biggest part of me,” she posted on Instagram.

She has also been a fierce critic of President Donald Trump, attacking him as “misogynistic” and “divisive.” The couple effectively endorsed Democratic candidate Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Not surprisingly, President Biden’s administration came out in support of Meghan and Harry for venting their grievances. White House press secretary Jen Psaki praised the woke Royal couple jet-setting between the Buckingham Palace and Beverly Hills for “sharing their own story and their own struggles.”

“For anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage. And that’s certainly something the president believes,” Psaki said.

TV host Piers Morgan on Meghan: “I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth.”
