The situation at the border keeps getting worse, despite the Biden administration’s refusal to call it a crisis. It seems like all norms and rules have been abandoned. Normalcy is not even a consideration.
The Border Patrol, which is already stretched to its limit, is now reportedly considering releasing some illegal crossers without even assigning them a court date.

Border Patrol in Rio Grande Valley considering releasing illegal crossers into US without court dateFox News has learned from a senior source with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that a plan is under consideration for Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) to begin releasing illegal border crossers who claim asylum without issuing a Notice to Appear (NTA) – meaning they will depart custody without a court date.Such a decision would be unprecedented if enacted and would place the responsibility of seeking an asylum hearing on the migrants through Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or legal assistance.The source says the reasoning for the decision is that the situation has “become so dire that BP [Border Patrol] has no choice but to release people nearly immediately after apprehension because there is no space to hold people even to do necessary NTA paperwork.”The process of issuing each migrant an NTA can take hours per individual or family. This would not apply to unaccompanied minors.The RGV, based in Texas, is ground zero for the surge in border crossings and is more than 700% overcapacity.
This situation is not sustainable.

U.S. races to find bed space for migrant children as number of unaccompanied minors in government custody hits 15,500The U.S. government on Saturday was housing approximately 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors, including 5,000 teenagers and children stranded in Border Patrol facilities not designed for long-term custody, according to government data reviewed by CBS News.As of Saturday morning, more than 5,000 unaccompanied minors were being held in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tent holding facility in south Texas and other stations along the border with Mexico. According to the government records, unaccompanied children are spending an average of 136 hours in CBP custody, well beyond the 72-hour limit outlined in U.S. law.The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was also housing nearly 10,500 unaccompanied children in emergency housing facilities and shelters licensed by states to care for minors, department spokesperson Mark Weber told CBS News on Saturday.
