A CBS News correspondent reports that cabinet members are discussing possibly invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Donald Trump as president.

There has been a lot of chatter about the 25th Amendment since the riots at the Capitol today, including from the National Manufacturers Association.
The 25th Amendment provides in pertinent part (emphasis added):
Section 4
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.
Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.
The “principal officers of the executive department” are considered to be the cabinet.

Milhouse? How’s that “rule of law” thingy? What did Trump EVER do to deserve this? This is to prevent disclosure of information on the steal and more. The Uniparty is one… there are only minimal shades of difference. They FEAR the people of the United States and they fear 2A. OK…so the USA was an illusion.
The 25th amendment is the law. But this story makes little sense and you shouldn’t believe it. It is harder to remove an unwilling president by the 25th than it is simply to impeach him in the house and remove him in the senate. The only circumstances in which you would want to do it the hard way is when you love and respect the president and don’t want to embarrass him by impeachment, so you go the extra mile to preserve his dignity.
The only advantage of the 25A that I can think of is that it works immediately, whereas the impeachment process takes time, and if it takes more than a fortnight there’s no point anyway.
But the main purpose of the 25A is to give a way to remove a president who doesn’t object but can’t resign. That’s what it’s designed for, and it does that well.
I agree. Assuming this is not another political hallucination by CBS (they pushed the evidence-free Russia Hoax for almost four years, and this 25th Amendment crap sounds like more of the same fakery), it could be battle space preparations for when the Biden* administration takes control and tanks the economy while failing to cure the Wuflu with a useless mask mandate.
Trump is not incapacitated nor is he mentally unfit. The show yesterday wasn’t MAGA, it was AntiFA. Use the 25th Amendment to get rid of Pence not Trump.
There seems to be at least some support for this amongst Republicans and there is even talk of impeachment again. You are probably right though won’t happen. These are chaotic times so shall see.

The clause is vaguely written as I understand it to allow its use in quite a few different circumstances. That said I think Milhouse points out there is limited time for the process to play out so not sure of the point.

Invoking the 25th Amendment is most bat shit crazy thing that could be done at this point. If the idea is to ‘tarnish’ DJT and undercut future support…. his supporters don’t care what Machiavellian stunts the DC swamp perform.
This single action would almost certainly ensure DJT runs in 2024 and would likely win the r nomination and after 4 years of watching Biden/Harris fumble around, would likely secure his victory.

I’m comfortably certain that this is FUD. The cabinet will not do this, nor will Pence do this. The key part of the 25A:
“…the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,…”
This was written, as was commonly understood at the time, to deal with situations like a) Woodrow Wilson having a stroke b) Eisenhower having a heart attack c) the President being kidnapped, and so on. We’d also understand its use if say, Joe Biden were to be found demented (that shouldn’t take long).
But one would have to put forward a compelling reason to say that Donald Trump can’t discharge the powers and duties of being President. And I don’t see one, nor would a big chunk of the American people, even if others (including O’Connell and Pelosi) were to be in on the fix.
The protest in DC today? Multiply that by 100, and in a lot of cities, if Pence and the Cabinet were to try to remove Trump.
A practical point — if they were to do this, they’d have to detain Trump. They couldn’t let him go on TV and demonstrate that he’s in control of himself, nor could they let him tweet, etc. He’d have to be held incommunicado. They’d then have to detain his wife, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and all the loyalists around Trump. That could end up being a considerable number of people. How long would you hold them? Suppose the Congress finishes the EV count tonight and says, yep, boy howdy, Biden is the president come January 20th, it’s final. What happens to Trump, his family, and loyalists on that day? Do you let them go? Do you ‘arrest’ them? On what charges? Do you commit all of them to a psych facility (shades of Soviet psychiatry)? What does Trump do on 1/21 if they’ve let him go?
All that that clearly is not the intent of the 25A. Which means that they’d be using the 25A to stage a coup for the last two weeks of the Trump presidency. As a coup it might be popular with the Deep State, but it would lead to wholesale violations of the civil rights of others. And it certainly would not be popular with the very large majority of people who voted for Trump.
The Big Steal requires the Big Lie. Lindsey Graham just said NO fraud. The USA died on Nov.3. The burial was today. Jan. 20 is Year Zero.

It would also be dishonest, and these are honorable people. I am quite sure that Pence would not be part of such a scheme unless he honestly believed the president had gone literally insane and was thus truly incapable of doing his job.

You know, we’ve all just sat around pretending there’s no voter fraud because it’s easier than getting into a huge nationwide fight over it. We took the coward’s path for a century to “keep the peace”. That needs to end. In my state, when I go to vote, I walk up to the poll worker station, tell them my name and they hand me a ballot. They don’t know me. There’s zero verification to make sure the ballot is going to the right person. You can register to vote by supplying a copy of a paycheck stub. Again, no verification. Illegal aliens, who are authorized to have driver’s licenses use them to register to vote because my state allows a driver’s license to serve as official government ID.. which guarantees you can register to vote. Additionally, two years ago my state passed a law that automatically registers a person to vote when they obtain a driver’s license or state ID card. Yeah.. there’s no voter fraud in the USA, right?

Cabinet members? Let’s see, how would they know? Mrs. Mitch maybe? Barr’s gone so maybe he set up Rosen? Gina, Chris and their crews would gladly fight to eliminate the President. They have both fought tooth and nail to protect the corrupt DC elites (which, coincidentally, includes both of them and their predecessors). No telling. There are way too many wolves in sheep’s clothing in the Swamp and way too many Swamp monsters to even count.
Any American citizens with an iota of sense need to realize that we are being set up to become the serfs, useful only to accommodate the ruling class. Wonder how Nancy, Mitch, Dick, Chuck and all the others surpassing their 75th birthdays feel about that? Wonder what the plan will be? Firing squads, lethal injections, gas chambers, or something else? I’m glad my parents and grandparents aren’t around to see this! I fear for my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Why bother with the 25th amendment? A couple of weeks, Slow Joe and the Ho will be in office. The FBI & CIA have been surveilling any possible opposition and preparing to react. Getting our country back, hopefully, will be a long term effort. God Bless America and it’s Patriots.

Total BS. All such an invocation would be would be symbolic. As there are only 13 days left, in the Trump administration, it is doubtful that the Amendment could be effectively invoked. If it was, Trump could be reinstated, via the constitution, with 24 hours. And, there is now, strongly lurking in the background, the question of how the deplorables would respond to that. This is wishful thinking on the part of some Establishment hack, nothing more.
