Calling someone by their legal name is an insult that requires an apology? The College Fix reports:
Michigan State apologizes for diversity training that called transgender employees by their legal namesWokeness is a particularly ravenous ouroboros.Michigan State University failed to show 110 percent inclusivity by referring to employees by their legal names in its “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Foundations Online Module,” according to a Friday email forwarded to The College Fix.The Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives and Office for Regulatory Affairs said “this first-ever online educational program” fell short in making employees “feel supported, respected, and included”:
We apologize to members of our non-binary and transgender community whose legal names, rather than professional names were used when distributing the online educational program. Michigan State University recognizes and values the diversity and various identities that all employees possess. We were grateful for the opportunity to remedy the offense swiftly and with the seriousness it deserved. Going forward, we are committed to assuring that this does not again occur and as such improve communications across broader MSU systems.
The taxpayer-funded university “truly regret[s] any harm that may have been caused in delivery of the module,” the message concluded: “We are grateful for your feedback and partnership as we strive to become a more diverse, inclusive and equitable institution.”
