“’The COVID-19 pandemic in the United States underscores the deep equity and justice challenges arising from our profoundly racist, intensely unequal society,” the paper read. “Unlike other countries that recognize protecting lives is the key to protecting livelihoods, the United States has chosen to prioritize profits over people. The Trump administration’s attempt to force people to return to work on a large scale depends on restarting physical schools so parents have childcare. In Los Angeles, this means increasing risk especially in Black and Brown working communities, where people are more likely to have ‘essential’ jobs, insufficient health care, higher levels of preexisting health conditions, and to live in crowded housing.’
‘Meanwhile,’ it continued, ‘the rewards of economic recovery accrue largely to white and well-off communities that have largely been shielded from the worst of the pandemic’s effects.’
The union also made several political demands that are aligned with calls being made by Democrats across the country, including defunding the police and charter schools.
‘Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the union said. ‘We must shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health.'”
What a pack of lies. To pick just one police violence is not a leading cause of “death and trauma for Black people…”
Per the CDC (“trust the science,” except not when it doesn’t fit the narrative, then screw the science) the leading causes of death among non-hispanic black males are heart disease (23.7%), Cancer (20.2%), unintentional injuries (7.9%), homicide (5%), stroke (4.9%), diabetes (4.3%), chronic lower respiratory diseases (3.2%), kidney disease (2.6%), septicemia (1.7%), and hypertension (1.6%).
Naturally the vast majority of those homicides were committed by criminals, and 93% of those criminals were also black. In 2015 nearly 6000 black males were killed in homicides. Of those 258 were killed by police. So police shootings of black males accounted for .043% of homicides. But they were not “murdered” since homicide simply means one human being caused the death of another human being. Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being. Naturally the vast majority of those 258 blacks killed by police were engaging in violent criminal behavior while armed. Something like 9-14 unarmed black males have been killed by police over the past 5 years (the rate has remained fairly consistent). So, police shootings of unarmed black males accounted for .03333% of all black males killed by police (just to plus up the numbers I assumed 20 unarmed black males were killed by police in that year, which would be highly unusual).
And unarmed doesn’t mean these males weren’t engaged in violent criminal conduct. It also doesn’t mean there wasn’t a weapon present (unarmed can mean there was a handgun in the vehicle when the individual committed the criminal offense).
In short, as demonstrated by the paper issued by United Teachers Los Angeles show them to be a pack of lying leftists. Who cares if there are a few Trump supporters sprinkled among the tens of thousands of lying leftists. Like the near-mythical moderate Muslim, they don’t do any good. Moderate Muslims do exist but they’re entirely powerless when confronting terrorism (so they don’t as they’ll get killed if they try). And likewise “Trump supporters” don’t do any good when it comes to preventing schools from being turned into leftist indoctrination factories.
