Debate Transcript Shows Trump Did Not “Refuse to Denounce” White Supremacists, Contrary to Media Narrative

Chris Wallace asked Trump if he was willing to condemn white supremacy. Trump said “sure.” Twice, as Wallace and Biden talked over him.

https://twitter.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1311149650192347136

The left and media claim President Donald Trump refused to denounce white supremacy.

The debate transcript tells a different story.

As Emily Jashinsky at The Federalist noted, you can have issues with how Trump handled the question.

After he said “sure” I think he should have expanded on the answer. But you cannot change the definition of “sure.” Chris Wallace asked Trump if he was willing to condemn white supremacy. Trump said “sure.”

Then Trump said, “Yes, I am willing to do it.”

Trump said “sure” and “yes.” Therefore he answered the question. Should he have gone further? Yes.

But do not misinform people about his answer. Saying “willing” does not mean Trump “refused” to condemn white supremacy.

The left and media’s interpretation of Trump’s “stand back and stand by” comment about the Proud Boys are not facts. It’s an opinion and not fact.

I can see how they interpret it as an encouragement to the Proud Boys. Trump probably should have stopped at “stand back” but he did not. But again, their perception is not fact.

The Trump War Room Twitter account tweeted out the times Trump has condemned white supremacy.

We all know what Trump meant, but we all also know how dishonest the media is.

Shorter Trump: Don’t give two hoots what you call the rioters, the violence must stop.

Are the white supremacists hiding behind all those ANTIFA and BLM rioters? What are they looting and burning down?

Don’t laugh. There are “highly educated” people who believe they are. If you watch some of the videos, it appers they may even be “white supremacists”, but they aren’t Trump’s people.

Don’t worry, any looters and arsonists who are caught will be denounced as white supremacists.

When you go to war do you send a nice congenial fellow to talk with your sworn enemy?

No. And we are sending President Trump, the 100% perfect person for this job.

Joe 30330 refused to denounce the violence of the nihilists.

This narrow exchange demonstrates how the MSM and the left will frame Trump’s answers when he isn’t 100% clear and unequivocal.

This is an area that his staff needs to work on with him. They need to convince him of the importance of disciplined, succinct answers on this issue and a few others.

If Trump can be very clear and unambiguous with no way for.the MSM to recast or read into his response they will be reduced to one of three options:
1. Ignore it
2. Lie about it
3. State opinions not facts: ‘ Trump changes his position on Neo Nazis, now says he opposes …’

If he can force the MSM to do that then any truly uncommitted voter willing to view the evidence can be reached. Not that there are many. It also means the d and MSM have to work a little longer and harder to bash Trump. They will still find a way but at least make them work for it.

I’d say the question was rather ridiculous when everyone but the MSM and Chrisopher Wray knows the violence is coming from the left…. and Trump gave a fairly clear, succinct answer that both Wallace and Biden talked over and drowned out. It was another gotcha question from Wallace, knowing full well the media was going to misrepresent Trump’s answer no matter what he said.

I think bringing in Ted Cruz to help with debate prep would be beneficial and wise.

If Trump says “white” media reports he said “black.”
When Biden says “Cummon man” media reports highly sophisticated intellectual response.

stand by
1. To be ready or available to act.
2. To wait for something, such as a broadcast, to resume.
3. To remain uninvolved; refrain from acting: stood by and let him get away.
4. To remain loyal to; aid or support: stands by her friends.
5. To keep or maintain: stood by her decision.

Our otherwise terrific prez has a most unfortunate and often hazardous habit of garbling his message — especially such critical ones.

gar·ble (gär′bəl)
tr.v. gar·bled, gar·bling, gar·bles
1. To mix up or distort to such an extent as to make misleading or incomprehensible: The report garbled all the historical facts.
2. To scramble (a signal or message), as by erroneous encoding or faulty transmission.

Does anyone remember “herd mentality”? I took “stand by” as Trump intending to say “stand down,” which isn’t a perfect response but is better than “stand by.”

I think, you’re probably — and not 100% — right for the following reason, which subtracts from the simple commission theory because of a glaring, final omission, rendering the error both unfortunate and, if it really was mere misspeech, perhaps fatally incomplete at end.

A more credible, excusable, and wholly acceptable scenario would show our prez and much more favored candidate saying, immediately after “Stand back and stand by,” “Wait, forgive me, please, I insist; I just misspoke, and horribly. I did not intend to say ‘Stand back and stand by,’ no, not at all; again please, I apologize to one and all. I meant to say — and I suppose many of my supporters already know this but I need to make the point 100% clear and unequivocal — ‘Proud Boys, stand back and stand DOWN’ — that’s my order, that’s what this, your Commander-in-Chief orders any extreme right wing group presuming wrongly and most improperly in acting or speaking recklessly, lawlessly, antisocially and generally in an un-American manner and, again, wrongly believing you’re doing so on my behalf, ‘stand back and stand down!’

“I hope that immediate correction makes the record of my discussion tonight, with regard, frankly, to this so-far unbalanced and very weird segment — yes, so-far unbalanced and very weird indeed, Chris — clear, crisp, and, as you would expect, contrite; again I couldn’t feel more regret and embarrassment than I did prior to my confession and apology and seek the forgiveness of anyone my misspeech offended; it was a simple and immediately recognized and acknowledged misuse of diction and never, never my actual intent.

“And so, now, for appropriate symmetry and balance, I turn to you, Chris, and respectfully ask that my opponent, former VP Biden, answer your similar question to him — and for purposes of fair and proper journalism before the American people, I won’t accept anything else but that, right now, please, Chris; right now. Chris, Antifa, BLM, and all the violence in our midst?”

Alas, it never happened; and that’s the real tragedy here: Our president, very evidently, needs to lead better, and smarter, and more skillfully in this kind of rhetorical sink hole; and thus, the reason so many of us always Trump fans are so blue in the aftermath of the first “debate”. (There was a time when the word applied in fact to what it stated.)

Translation: Fake media published fake headline to advance fake narrative.

In other news, the biggest loser last night was Chris Wallace.

Denotatively, maybe; connotatively, yours might be a pretty hard sell, Mary.

” . . . Stand by,” in that context, probably means (in the vernacular, ie, the eager-eared tongue of the Left/mob/typical low-info voter) to most:

“Okay, I need to be formal here, so back off — but just for now; only, don’t leave yet, the country, ie, I may still need your services (if the Dems don’t call off their own attack dogs, your arch-enemy, Antifa; I don’t want to spoil your chances for more bat-wielding fun).

My two cents only.

Wallace and Biden displayed how anti-White they are in this segment.

This was the low point in the debate IMHO for Chrissy Wallace. He had a lot of low-lights, but this was the lowest. Anyone with eyes in their head know the BLM/Antifa riots have nothing to do with white supremacists (if these groups even exist anymore). The violence is coming from left. The appropriate question was to Biden to call off the leftist goon squads who are trying to aid his winning the Presidency.

If Fox News had stuck with “We report, you decide,” Chris Wallace would never have been brought aboard.

Instead they went with the vapod “Fair and balanced,” which every other network also pretended to be, and this is where they are now.

personally, i’d rather trump was honest and admit that, on average whites are superior. have people of other races produced useful inventions and ideas, certainly. have most of the the things people of all races value been produced by white people, yes.
if folks didn’t identify so heavily with their own ethnicity, and were intellectually honest, the concessive would also says whites are superior.
does this makes white people better or more honest? of course not.
people of all races can be corrupt, dishonest and absolutely horrible human beings. being productive doesn’t make one a better person. don’t confuse productivity with morality.

What kind of idiotic question was this? Didn’t Trump just recently declare the KKK a domestic terrorist group? It’s too bad he didn’t mention that.

He also should’ve challenged Biden on his claim about Charlottesville which Biden said was his reason for entering the race.

In case you missed it, last night Joe Biden was cheating worse than Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France. #JoeWired

https://twitter.com/LivePDDave1/status/1311274525418422272

Has dim-witted, dotard-marionette, Biden condemned his supporters in “Anti-fa” and “Black Lives Matter,” who, acting like the goose-stepping, Jew-hating jackboots that they are, have been desecrating and vandalizing synagogues across America?

Nope. Total silence from the feckless and vile Dhimmi-crats on their Party’s rampant imitation of German National Socialists, circa the 1930’s.

Old and cold: Antifa/BLM are mostly peaceful demonstrators fighting against injustice and racism.

New and bold: Antifa/BLM are white supremacist false-flag operations encouraged and funded by Trump.

The debate was a waste of time and food for media gotchas. Biden had no where to go but up. For the President, it’s just another day of Trump vis the lions.

No one is on the fence at this point. Both are known quantities. To Everyone.

You know what you are getting with Trump as President.

You know what you are getting with Biden as President.

Somewhat OT: Rating for debate are down compared to 2016.

This is contrary to what he had been led to believe before the debate. Yet another reason (among many) to ignore all of the Joseph Goebbels media’s spin about the debate.

    Now this.

Almost As If It’s All Been Coordinated Behind the Scenes in a Journ0List Slack Channel, Media and Democrat Operatives (BIRM) Emerge to Insist that Biden Refuse All Further Debates

    —Ace of Spades

Literally everyone predicted they would do this before last night’s debate even started.

It’s very strange how the “news” networks keep demanding less news. Less product for them to sell. Less material requiring their allegedly-unique skills to process.

Why, it’s almost as if there is some greater imperative compelling their utterances.

Does anyone expect the Maoist State Media to report the news? They’re in the propaganda business, not the news business.

The biggest hoax pulled off in the last 100 years is that the news media is no longer news media.

It doesn’t matter. The issues come and go. Debates are about the candidates’ character and mentality. Sorry, kids, but Donald Trump had a full-scale meltdown on that stage. I’ve been watching debates for damn near 50 years, and this was lower than a pile of whale shit on the ocean floor.

I’ve seen his recent press conferences in which he’s displayed impressive command of detail, and managed to stay reasonably calm. Not this time. He was a screaming mess. He actually made Biden look good by comparison, which is about as easy for me to write as swallowing a pack of razor blades.

Winner? Neither. Loser? The entire country. I’ll turn 63 before the election, and have been voting in presidential elections since 1976. I’ve seen four recessions, inflation, stagflation, de-industrialization, and all manner of hijinks, but I really cannot remember feeling more depressed, angry, pessimistic, and deeply worried.

In this forum, I expect a raft of thumbs-down votes, but I really don’t care. I live in WA State, which Biden would’ve won no matter what, so it’s not about my vote (which will be another write-in, just like in ’16). This goes far beyond any of that.

Anyone who thinks that a) the country is in anything other than deep trouble, or b) that either of those two are qualified to be president, is self-deluded to the point of near insanity. This is as bad as it gets. Ugh.

Another pathetic hissy fit from a neverTrumper.

Understand and follow your statement until the last paragraph. Biden isn’t qualified to be President and has shown his lack of qualification for over forty years. Trump is qualified for the job, as shown in the last nearly four years, but his natural tendency to fight detracts from that. He is his own worst enemy.

You got the expected townticks. We’ve all been there when we said what we thought was right as opposed to what is acceptable in this group. Milhouse is my idol.
    .

Trump was slowly getting my sympathy, and was on the brink of getting my vote. Not now. Trust me, there’s no way I will vote for Biden. He’s a corrupt, dishonest, senile old retread. I never bought his working class Scranton act, and I will never cast a vote for him. And don’t get me started on the bitch he’s running with.

But you know what? When Biden told Trump to shut up, it might have been the one time in my life when I agreed with that empty fucking suit about anything. The lowest, and yet also very darkly comedic moment, was when Trump was free-associating at high volume, and out of nowhere he barked, “socialized medicine!”

Jesus H. Christ. It’s not that he’s wrong, but if there was ever a moment when you could see that Trump is an exposed nerve ending without a superego (to be Freudian about it), that was it. Damn, if the United States wasn’t so important and the president wasn’t so important, I’d be laughing. But I’m not.

The real tragedy is that these are the choices: an unhinged cross between Archie Bunker and an angry rodeo clown, vs. a superannuated cipher who will be unceremoniously shoved out of the way within a year, maybe two, at which point the teeth are bared.

This country is in deep, deep shit.

That Wallace used a blatant lie that Sundowner Joe has used and said was his sole reason to become a Presidential candidate is unconscionable.
