Border Wall Critic Gretchen Whitmer Building 8-Foot Wall Around MI Governor Residence

Democrats are fond of claiming that America doesn’t need Trump’s southern border wall, yet so many of them live behind protective walls.

In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer is currently erecting an eight-foot-high border around her home.

Who is she trying to keep out, her ‘mostly peaceful’ constituents?

Collin Anderson reports at the Washington Free Beacon:

Biden Surrogate Builds Wall, Makes Michigan Taxpayers Pay For ItMichigan Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer’s state-owned residence is getting $1.1 million in security upgrades, including an eight-foot-tall perimeter fence.Whitmer has long questioned the effectiveness of physical barriers, but is asking Michigan taxpayers to foot the bill for a seven-figure project to keep out uninvited guests. The governor’s office confirmed the renovation on Friday, telling the Detroit News that the wall would help “ensure the safety, security, and protection of any sitting governor and the first family.” The renovation will include an electrified fence that Whitmer claims is necessary because of threats she has received.Whitmer, a Biden surrogate, has attacked the idea of using barriers to prevent illegal immigration. She called President Donald Trump’s border wall “costly and ineffective” in February 2017, nearly a week after suggesting that money for the wall would be better spent elsewhere.

Democrats: It’s different when we do it.

According to Morgan Phillips of FOX News, a spokesperson for Whitmer said this was routine maintenance:

Whitmer spokeswoman Tiffany Brown called the renovations “routine maintenance and upgrades” that were needed to “to ensure the safety, security and protection of any sitting governor and the first family,” according to the Detroit News. The cost of the upgrades at the Lansing residence, as recommended by Michigan State Police and the state Department of Technology, Management and Budget, is approximately $1.1 million, Brown said. It wasn’t clear how much of the budget would be spent on the perimeter fence.“As a matter of practice, we’re constantly reviewing security protocols and adjusting as needed,” Shanon Banner, spokeswoman for the Michigan State Police, told the Detroit News. “We don’t comment on specific threats against the governor nor do we provide information about security measures.”

Walls for me, but not for thee.

Think anyone in the liberal media will ask Whitmer about this seeming contradiction?

Don’t hold your breath.
