Students and Faculty at Dartmouth Sign Letter Urging School to Fight ‘Structural Racism’
“The unrepentant White supremacy evident in this history has also shaped the mission, culture, and traditions of Dartmouth College”
Have you noticed how the left has evolved from accusations of racism to ‘systemic’ racism and ‘structural’ racism?
The College Fix reports:
Hundreds of Dartmouth faculty, students sign letter urging school to fight ‘structural racism’
Calling the school “racially hostile,” nearly 300 faculty members and students at Dartmouth College have signed a letter urging the school to have “an honest and public reckoning with Dartmouth’s exploitation of enslaved Africans.”
The letter, addressed to Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon and college trustees, urges the school “to take concrete steps to unravel its built-in structural racism perpetuated through the superficial and short-term fixes that our senior leadership constantly applies to the problem.”
The letter credits the unrest following the death of African American man George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police for the timing of the requests. “Through our current national conversation on race many Americans are, for the first time, carefully considering the collective impact of the relentless war their country has waged on Black people, at all scales and by all means available,” reads the letter.
“The unrepentant White supremacy evident in this history has also shaped the mission, culture, and traditions of Dartmouth College,” states the letter, adding, “That fact demands our urgent attention.”
The letter was initiated by Ayo Coly, chairwoman of the African and African American Studies program, and Craig Sutton, a professor in the math department. Coly did not respond to a request from The College Fix for comment.
The demands come after the college itself issued a letter in early July promising a number of changes to address racial inequity, including requiring mandatory implicit bias training for all students, faculty, and staff.
Additionally, the school promised nonwhite community members will also have “greater access” to nonwhite therapists, due to “the toll systematic racism takes on Black students and all students of color.”

“The unrepentant White supremacy evident in this history has also shaped the mission, culture, and traditions of Dartmouth College …”
Let’s translate, using the Smithsonian’s recent guide “Aspects and Assumptions of Whiteness.”
The letter says that Dartmouth has supported:
* Self-reliance
* Independence
* The family
* The scientific method
* Rational thinking
* America’s Western heritage
* Hard work as a key to success
It’s obvious why the letter’s signers find those things objectionable.
Signing this letter costs them nothing, but signals virtue to their peers. Funny how students always want to seem “woke”, but for someone else to pay the price.
Structural Racism is the huge percentage of black criminals who are arrested and sent to prison. The solution to this is for the police to avoid arresting blacks when they haven’t arrested enough white criminals to maintain 87% to 13% ratio.
I am pretty sure that there have been no slaves at Dartmouth for at least 150 years. So I don’t see the issue.
There is no such thing as “systemic racism” or “structural racism”, so I still don’t see any problem. Except with the “progressive” idiots.
Structural racism describes the Democrat Party to a T.
College faculty across America are bowing and scraping before the Leftist mob-on command, it seems. Utterly appalling.
“…the toll systematic racism takes on black students and all students of color.” Do all black students and students of color feel themselves to be abject victims of whatever “systematic racism” (the shibboleth du jour) is supposed to be? Just pathetic and another racially motivated shakedown of a university.
Black lives matter just declared that Asians are not people of color.
Do any of the bloated, pasty-faced, flabby white people who are doing all of the screaming actually ASK “black students and all students of color” what their thoughts are? I am willing to be they don’t.
I’d be further willing to bet that the only ones they even see or talk to are the grievance studies majors. I doubt the Blacks and S’s of C care at all; they are too busy studying, going to class, and doing their labs.
College is now reeducation camp to indoctrinate the young into believing communism is the solution to all their imagined problems. Parents need to find schools that teach useful subjects and leave these liberal schools to pander to spoiled over indulged snowflakes.
Structural Racism: We can’t actually see it but we’re sure it’s everywhere; we can’t define it in any way such that its existence could be objectively verified or not, BUT, we just know it’s there!!
So you better do what we want …
