Ah, yes. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot spewing the Democratic rhetoric on guns to deflect blame on others for the rising shooting and homicide numbers in the city.
Lightfoot claimed Chicago is “being inundated with guns from states that have virtually no gun control, no background checks, no ban on assault weapons.”
Her full quote: “The fact of the matter is, our gun problem is related to the fact that we have too many illegal guns on our street, 60 percent of which, 60 percent of which come from states outside of Illinois. We are being inundated with guns from states that have virtually no gun control, no background checks, no ban on assault weapons. That is hurting cities like Chicago.”
She forgot this part: “More than two of every five traceable crime guns recovered in Chicago originate with their first point of sale at an Illinois dealer.”

So people in these states with “virtually no gun control” buy guns for the specific reason to shoot-up Chicago?
Mayor, the stats still show that 40% of those guns come from Illinois. You cannot brush that aside. Facts do not care about your feels or narrative.

You cannot buy a gun from a seller without a background check.

I’d suggest a basic point: why do those states with, allegedly, no scrutiny on gun purchases have far fewer deaths per thousand by firearm than Chicago?
Really, though, she’s just entitled, stupid, and incompetent.
Not to mention, why cities and towns in Illinois that are not Chicago don’t have the anywhere near the shootings and murders that Chicago does.
Or even why the violence is much worse in some neighborhoods in Chicago than others.
And best of all: since those gun laws haven’t changed in the last 7 months, why is there a spike in gun violence in Chicago in the last 2 months?
When Mayor Lightfoot can explain any of those (narrator: she can’t), the next question to ask is: Why are you gaslighting the public, Mayor Lightfoot?

I don’t live in IL any more, but remember the hassle of getting a FOID and being in the first batch to get an IL CC permit. Got NICS’d for each, and for each of 3 handgun purchases. Also took the UT and AZ CC courses at a Cabela’s or Bass Pro in Joliet area for having the reciprocity of 34 (+/-) states.
It was my understanding with an IL FOID and CC, they allowed for out of staters. But in less than 30 days after moving to WA to take care of my father, IL cancelled my FOID and then they cancelled my CC saying I couldn’t have a CC without a FOID. $500 +/- down the drain.
I miss Putnam Co., but not IL’s anal gun laws.

I left Illinois, state of my birth and childhood, several decades back, right before the FOIC epidemic hit. Lovely state, but the imbecilic gun laws foisted off on the citizens by the actual imbeciles along the Old U.S. Route 66 corridor (ie, Cbicago-Springfield-St Louis) make it impossible for me to return other than for short visits. And at that, I’m always nervous that something untoward could occur that would put me in the crosshairs of a zealot state trooper.
A friend from Oklahoma serves as excellent excellent example:
He had a flat just outside a little place called Kinderhook at around 3:00 AM, and a state policeman stopped to render assistance. All went well until the flat was being put in the trunk and the trooper a couple of gun cases back there. [This is getting long: cut to the chase.]
Jeff was arrested for possession of an “arsenal” for which he had no FOIC! Handcuffed and locked up until he could see the local magistrate the next afternoon where, even though he was from Oklahoma and just passing through. His completely true story held no sway; guilty as charged with a ridiculously high fine, and his guns confiscated until he could appear before a district court judge several months hence!
He did get his guns back nearly a year later: they had been improperly stored were badly rusted, but he did at least get them back; there are stories, rumors of you will, about folks whose firearms were “lost” or “misplaced”. These poor souls were given recompense for their missing property, up to a maximum of $300 – not quite the going rate for, in one case, a Wetherby Vanguard!
I’m always glad now when Illinois is in the rear view mirror. And always sad and anger about what a bunch of never-to-be-sufficently-damned gun-grabbing politicians did to a once-free state!
If they didn’t have guns, these thugs would be killing people with knives, clubs or whatever weapons they could lay their hands on.

Likewise burglaries, auto thefts and drug abuse is higher in Chicago because of poor legislation enacted elsewhere. Even a conscientious person like Jussie Smollet wasn’t safe going out at two o’clock in the morning when it was 20 below zero because of the laws on the books in South Dakota.

Main problem is judges who continually release gun felons back onto the streets. Recent example 19 yr old criminal kills two teens after having been bonded out of jail on aggravated unlawful use of weapons charges. It happens way too often. Even former police commissioner Johnson mentioned it once. Only once before I suspect he was silenced by his higher ups. I believe that the three black females running Cook County now are inept and just stupid. They are incredibly soft and tolerant on crime, especially gun crime and will gladly call for curtailing the 2nd amendment rights of all citizens to cover for the inability of their system to protect law abiding citizens from the thugs. Also the failings of black parents to take the guns away from their teens causes a lot of this mayhem too. I raised kids and would never allow any of them carrying or owning a handgun at age 16. But then I was a part of my sons’ lives on a daily basis. Not trying to brag but it is what it is.
