Westfield State University investigates ‘disturbing’ social media postsAn alleged social media exchange between students is being investigated at Westfield State University.A message on the university’s Twitter site Thursday said the university “is assessing and addressing disturbing social media matters under appropriate policies and procedures.”The alleged posts involved a male student’s defense of police presence, directed at a female student. The posts provoked outrage on social media, with multiple commenters calling the remarks inexcusably offensive for what they considered sexually explicit content and a cavalier tone.On Wednesday, Westfield State President Ramon Torrecilha addressed the protests about social media posts, without directly identifying any specific cases.”I hear you. I understand your outrage and frustration and I share your disgust and disappointment in reaction to recent deplorable exchanges on social media,” Torrecilha wrote.”I cannot underscore enough how far away such statements stand from Westfield State’s mission and values of inclusion, diversity, and equity. Any complaints of threats or intimidation to any and all members of the campus community are taken seriously.”
