U. Chicago Law Prof Calls For Military Coup Against Trump, Backtracks When Called Out
“Trump should be deposed and jailed”
Professor Brian Leiter maintains a blog called ‘Leiter Reports: A Philosophy Blog.’ In a recent post, he has now updated, he called for military leaders to depose and jail Trump.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald called it out on Twitter:
Univ. of Chicago Law Professor @BrianLeiter says Gen. Mattis "needs to encourage his military colleagues who share his respect for American democracy and the rule of law to do what he should have done while in office: Trump should be deposed and jailed." https://t.co/nXwv8CMQVg pic.twitter.com/tgtNKv9Ngq

Here is the text, from the internet archive:
Now he needs to encourage his military colleagues who share his respect for American democracy and the rule of law to do what he should have done while in office: Trump should be deposed and jailed, and VP Pence should conclude his term and stand for election, if he chooses, this fall. Let the nightmare end.
The post now has this at the bottom:
ADDENDUM (June 6): I’ve removed my little joke about a military coup in favor of VP Pence. I have, it appears, more faith in the U.S. military, and its commitment to the rule of law, than most readers.

It was a joke. Uh huh. I believe that. Yup.
That Fake prof needs some military on his ass.
The military would probably have to stand in line, but then again soldiers are accustomed to lines.
Man, internet cajones can really be a pain sometimes, eh, “professor”?
This professor is a loon. He needs to be fired. He is not intelligent, but rather is a fool. Why was he hired?
What a moron? Joke? He’s as funny a coronavirus epidemic in a nursing home. If one professor can be suspended and harassed for refusing to discriminate on grades, this professor should be investigated by the Secret Service and imprisoned.
Ah, yes. We believe in the vital importance of our Constitution, in supporting the freedom of speech which flows therefrom. Except when someone says something which offends us, in which case we must suspend Constitutional rights and imprison the blasphemer.
The Left has devolved (even further) into a clown show of buffoonery. The best thing that could happen is to let cities like Minneapolis keep their “Free Zone” (LOL!) and defund police. When the high schoolers in Antifa and haters in BLM realize there’s nobody there to feed them and change their diapers…or pay the water and electricity bills…they’ll evaporate and leave the city an empty burned out shell. That will be the end of this nonsense.
And the Military loves Trump. Aside from the elitist generals nobody in the service is going to revolt. It’s a joke.
When these comments are combined with the calls to “defund the police,” it appears that the Leftists want a government patterned after the utopia of Somalia. They want military coups and “justice” enacted by armed gangs and warlords.
No wonder US citizens are buying guns and ammunition at a record pace. Being well-armed is the only defense against the mobs and looters and left-wing militarists.
He’s with the University of god dam Chicago. One of the highest ranked and most selective universities on the planet.
This guy said EXACTLY what he meant to say. He just got called out is all. And now he’s running away.
Bill Vallicella has been telling us about this Leiter guy for a while now:
https://maverickphilosopher.typepad.com/maverick_philosopher/brian-leiter/
Leiter’s been one of the loudest voices leading the purge of conservatives from philosophy departments everywhere. He’s a total a**hole.
I actually believe it was a bitter joke, because if he meant it seriously he would not have called for the military to install Pence as president.
Has Mattis decided?
he might want read the book or see the movie ‘Seven Days in May’, didn’t work out for that general
Sometimes it is useful to think about what you post and even what you email or say.
That something might please you is not sufficent reason to suggest that it happen.
People seem to get confused about that quite often.
In the U.S. you are still allowed to have preferences. But in many cases it is not OK to take action to have hsve those preferences become reality including encouragine others to take action.
Some of the Ten Commandments are about that.
He should be removed from his position. Sedition is illegal.
No, it isn’t. It can’t be, because it’s protected by the first amendment. The law purporting to ban it is blatantly unconstitutional, and no court in the country would ever entertain such a charge. Any prosecutor who brought one would be risking sanctions.
