Protesters Occupy University Of Chicago Police Headquarters Demanding Department Be Abolished
Protesters have locked themselves inside the campus police headquarters at the University of Chicago, and now they say officers won’t let anyone bring them food.
They have been holding a sit-in since Friday afternoon.
Other students gathered outside overnight to support the activists.
They want the school to abolish the university’s police department.
In a statement the university said it supports free speech but does not want protests to disrupt the university operations.
The university released the following statement about the protest:
“At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, UCPD Chief Kenton Rainey spoke with protestors inside the 6054 S. Drexel Avenue building and reiterated that he has set aside time on Monday at 8:00 am to meet with organizers. Protestors’ continued presence inside the building is creating a safety hazard due to the COVID pandemic and the University has asked repeatedly that protestors leave the building. At all times, protestors have been, and continue to be, free to leave. If desired, they are free to protest safely outside of the building.

They have taken over the department’s offices, want the department abolished AND they’ angry that the department isn’t helping them?

I always thought U of Chicago was better than this.
The only advice I could give to the more reasonable faculty and students is that their campus is in a high-crime area. If there’s no police force patrolling the campus, they need to protect themselves.
They need to take a concealed weapons course.
Of course, in Chicago they’ll never get a concealed weapons permit, and the University would never allow it either. So what? Who is going to enforce that?
With no police on the campus, it will be the Wild, Wild West. When a mugger sticks a knife in your ribs, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Here are the Chicago crime stats between March 8 and June 12, a period in which there were zero police-involved shootings:
Shot and Killed: 170
Shot and Wounded: 802
Total Shot: 972
Total Homicides: 185
95% were committed by people of color.
Go ahead. Defund the police. And bring plenty of body bags. You’ll need them.
Keep the trespassers locked in.
Do not allow any food to be brought in.
Turn off electricity and water (and gas, if applicable).
I do not know how easy it would be to block cell and wifi service, but this too should be done.
Do not storm the building. When the trespassers wish to leave, arrest them for criminal trespass.
I will ask the same question here that I have asked in other threads. How many of the demonstrtators, occupiers, snivelers, and complainers, are taking actual, useful, courses of study?
Everyone of the little scum should be expelled.
U. Chicago is full of naive students from rich and peaceful places surrounded by a very bad neighborhood. No police would mean big trouble including rapes. These people are nuts.
